This year is all on Stallings and Barnes for hiring him.

When you're starting 3 freshmen they will make freshmen mistakes; especially against a team as big and talented as North Carolina. Also, look at the competition that we've played against. Add in who our front line players are practicing against. The things that work in those games and practices might not work against good competition. It's a learning curve. It's a process. We've already lost one good coach. Give Capel and company some time.
No! I want instant results. I gave you my order at the drive thru speaker, now I have my $4.50. Give me what I want!!!!

Not saying you are right or wrong. Just saying I don't see it. And I've seen nothing from Capel's career that suggests your prediction will be right either.

It is inconceivable to me that someone could be a fan of stallings but dislike capel.

Frankly, I can’t understand it unless you are trolling.

I wasn't impressed with Capel's coaching today in all honesty. That being said, I still believe in him.
When the other team has better more experienced players than you at every position what would you game strategy be ? Mine would be not to play the game !

I like Stallings because I lived in Nashville when he was taking Vandy to the NCAAs He does things his way and on the up & up before Vandy was willing to get their hands dirty. I respect that. It doesn't mean I thought he would win enough at Pitt or ever compete for league championships.

Tbh, Pitt basketball hasn't had the right leadership since joining the ACC. And the coaching changes have been ridiculous. Dixon should have been retained 2 more years before being let go. The Stallings and Capel hires should never have been made, imo.

That team also lost in the opening weekend to South Carolina with K as coach

From the article:

The team’s issues are now more than just injuries, Grayson Allen drama, and missing their Hall of Fame coach. Everyone is now healthy except forward Chase Jeter, but Duke’s losses have mostly been due to bad defense and mental mistakes. Acting head coach Jeff Capel declined to speak on the players’ punishment, which was supposed to be private only between the team and the locker room.

Not a great look for JC, Imho.

Capel is a mediocre coach. That's obvious over his decade long head coaching career. If he is going to win at Pitt, he will do it with superior recruiting.

Typically, a great recruiter can put a good product on the floor by year 2 or 3. Pitt didn't hire Capel to find players to develop. He needs find freshman he can win with. I know that isn't a reasonable expectation for year one. But going forward it is, ...if he is truly the recruiter he is hyped to

Dixon was a good coach and a good person. Stallings I think was a good coach at some point but Barnes had no business hiring him for this team.

Heather came in and after this game I still know one thing is clear to me. She made a great hire and we are lucky Capel came here. No doubt in my mind in two years were top 25 to stay and next year a bubble team in ncaa. We will win 5-6 games this year in acc.

We got lucky

You are really working overtime her to paint Capel as a bad hire.

Yes because theres so much coaching he could have done with only three legit D1 players against a roster chock full of 4 and 5 star players. Should he have gotten them to shoot better, miss less free throws,
In the postgame, Capel said the team looked to be pressing when the shots weren't falling in the first half, and they needed to settle down. Yet, from 11:58 when Pitt scored to make it 15-14, it was not until it was 3:30 and down by 20 that he called a timeout. If he thought they needed to settle down why not call a timeout earlier?

What, are you another butt-hurt Dixon guy? I think the only way to grow in life is through adversity. Do you not think it possible that this experience made him a better coach in the long run? I think he has accumulated alot of good experience in his years with OU and Duke. My view is we are damn fortunate to have a coach who commands respect and can get us in on quality recruits because of his name and who he worked for in the past.

You can't even evaluate him fairly as a head coach until he is able to recruit a complete roster. Right now, I think you evaluate him as a recruiter. So far, so good. If he strikes out in 2019 and doesn't get the bigs or any shooters, then it is going to be tough to get where we want to go. If his 2019 class winds up anywhere near what he got last minute for 2018, well, then you can begin to evaluate him as a coach in 2019.

He wont out-recruit Duke or UNC. He COULD get somewhat similar players to Louisville and Syracuse. But heres the thing, all we are asking is to finish in the Top 8-9 in the ACC and get to the dance. He will get there
And predicting wins versus bluebloods should be banned from this board.
Unreasonable expectations guarantee disappointment.

That is simply not correct. The timeout that Pitt called in the first half came at 9:40 on the clock. The timeout that came at 3:30 was the under 4 media timeout.

His track record is what it is. I guess the thought process was that he was probably the hire best suited to get talent to Pitt quickly. I'm not sure that is working out.
My man he hasn't even been here a full season. C'mon. Look I think you have some valid points but let's give the man a couple of seasons before we all make judgments about how successful he'll be here.
