Not familiar with this guy as I'm not in the area but he is getting blasted on social media (by fans and local media)

Saw a post on twitter calling for a ban of Pittsburghsportsnow until he's fired. Lol

Wasn't too complimentary of #30 today

Just a tool. He made a pop shot at pitt/Conner before game even started by tweeting Conner would be scared playing before his largest crowd at Heinz. Didn't let up all day. Not sure why he would want to bust on Conner.

But this brings me to the bigger point I have always maintained. Would a Penn State media guy tweet out something like "where's the paterno statue?" Or anything negative? No, they slurp the program. But for some reason the greater Pittsburgh media takes shots at pitt all the time.

Pretty much with the media always knocking Pitt.

I noticed his attendance jab was retweeted by some other media guy, Adam Crowley... a... (this may surprise you) WVU alum!

That is the main reason why I don't like nitters on this message board. They get enough opportunites to take shots at Pitt (especially the local media) on other venues. We don't need them to roam around over here and take shots at Pitt under the guise of having "an honest debate" ...

You're right, Deer Head. I saw him at the Improv years ago and couldn't believe how slight he was. It looked like a strong gust of wind could knock him down.

Pittsburghsportsnow did fire him already.

I never listened to him before either, but talking shit about a cancer survivor's first ever NFL game, in which he almost got 100 yards on 5 ypc... and that guy also being one of the best sport stories ever in Pittsburgh... seriously... ever. He deserves not having any job in Pittsburgh

Benz is a midget idiot, I remember laughing at him after Cuse game, he was about to cry.

Agree with you 100%--for once.

Anyone who would relish the chance to take miserable little cheap shots at James Conner can only be a subhuman piece of dog $hit.

Benz's reply to PFT's tweet basically saying the Steelers could forget about Bell really wasn't that bad and he wasn't trying to take any shots at Conner's ability as an NFL player. However, he tried to be a clown and intentionally stirred the pot earlier in the day with the lame attendance tweet. He's always been off my radar when it's come to Pittsburgh sports.

In fairness, most people who interact with Ron Cook in real life have positive things to say about him. I don't know anyone who has a kind word to say about Tim Benz in real life. It is 100% negative.

I wonder if Mike V is gonna sack up and address this with Tim (as a contributor of Mike's site)? Personally, I think it's bad for business (especially one that focuses on Pitt sports) to have someone like Benz affiliated with the site.

And a big F U to the wvcc Crowley as well. Tell him to blow nutting.

Are you sure. He is still listed on the site as a contributor. Usually when someone is fired they are immediately removed from the website.

It's funny that people actually think something like that is funny. For one, James Conner will never play in front of a crowd at Heinz as big as the one for Pitt/psu (barring a stadium expansion). Two, as bad as some pitt games look when it's empty, it seriously looked like there were 10,000 people there yesterday at times.

Not to even mention that James Conner, the cancer survivor, former ACC player of the year..... afraid of playing in front of a big crowd? Sounds like a typical joke from nitter.... dumb, lame, not accurate, and not even remotely funny. This guy tries so hard to be another shock jock a la mark madden yet has no skills for it whatsoever and doesn't even know what he's talking about half the time.

I actually agreed with PFT's tweet. While there is no doubt Bell is one of the best RB's, 12 million is a lot for that position. Steelers would be better off paying Conner 700k and re-allocating that 12million to the defense Imo. Obviously yesterday was more important than football, and Benz was doing nothing more than trolling.

Benz and Poni are interchangeable.

Both have no ability other than to stir the pot.....

For example......earlier this year....I believe the Bucs went into St Louis and swept the Cardinals. Now whether you are a baseball fan or not....or like the Pirates or not......thats a big news story around here, no?

Poni???? what does he do???? He goes on about the Cards aren't the same team....they're older...not as strong up the middle, lost Matt Adams, Wainright is washed up....blah blah blah......

Now i get it.......ratings go up when there is a villain behind the mike. But Benz and Poni need to learn to pick their battles. Some....like James Connor and the Pirates early season sweep....are not winnable for chumps like them.......

At least now I know who Tim Benz is.

Giving your opinion on sports is something men should do over a few beers. The fact that some idiots make a living doing this never ceases to amaze me. And the fact that most of them have vastly over-inflated egos nauseates me.

A lot of these so-called journalists around now like to proclaim that as "professionals" they would NEVER allow a rooting bias to influence their work.

That's complete and total BS as clearly evidenced by the likes of Benz, Poni, Adamski (and several others) on a continual basis. Maybe they think that social media comments when they aren't "officially working" are an allowable exception? But for me those are the type of things that provide even more insight and are extremely revealing as to where some of these people are really coming from. They're certainly not fooling any reasonable person that cares to pay attention to their agendas.

He was not fired, not sure where that information is being gathered from. He was on WDVE is this morning taking more jabs at PITT's attendance and had some help from Prisuta and Crawford.

In his defense, he didn't say anything about James being a bad football player. He stated that Steelers fans shouldn't be quick to anoint James, as his value does not yet match that of Lev Bell. The media is going to have to careful with any criticism of James because he's quickly become a fan favorite on that team.

It's so weird that almost all of the PGH media bandwagon for the Pirates but take every chance they can to dump on Pitt. At least Pitt is trying.

Weird? Well when most of the Pittsburgh sports media is from: Penn State, WVU, Syracuse and certain other Big 10 outposts (MSU, Northwestern, Ohio State) what do you expect?

? He is DKs main DK radio host, and he was just on this morning.

He isn't getting fired or banned for making fun of Pitt's attendance.

I watched the Sports Showdown last night and Paul Zeise (nicely) pointed out to Benz the issue was with him trolling Pitt fans. Wasn't much, but glad someone stood up to him.
