The wisdom on this board is amazing. Yinzers is the word I used, and I think it fits. Whine, moan, bitch about everything. I'm surprised Pittsburgh Dad isn't more liked because he is a good representative of yinzer fans. The depth of critical thinking skills of a cement block.
I don't get how the yinzers measure the 'fandom' of someone by the number of posts a 68 year old guy (me) has posted since 1969. That is about the stupidest post I've seen, period. I'm not exactly a computer whiz, and only recently became about half interested in what goes on here. Also, I'm recently retired, so I never had time before as I had a job which apparently Pitt Family does not have. Pitt Family is gonna have to get one someday, and it will cut into his posting time. It's kind of fun to see what stupidity the stupid yinzers are talking about now. For sheer entertainment, it's tough to beat.
I am no Nitter, not by a long shot. I sat at Pitt Stadium during the 48-14 debacle, when JoePa got time put on the clock to kick his tying field go against Foge, when Billy Owens picked off a PSU pass at the end of the game and took it to the house to seal the win. I sat gleefully at Beaver Stadium when Sherrill took the covers off of Randy McMillan and he ran roughshod over the Nits. All I heard from the Nitters around me is "you guys recruit illegal". I sat at Three Rivers when Carson Long went wide right on three field goals and we lost 7-6. Ruined my year. Everything I said is true. The Pitt fan base is 35-45000, has been for years. This is a Steeler town, not a football town. Pitt could win the National Championship and Andrew Stockey would still be talking about the 'Black and Gold Nation'. Those are facts.
Pitt does not have the size, the alumni, the money to 'win championships' consistently over the likes of Alabama, LSU...heck, even ND, the biggest name in college football for decades, has difficulty competing with them..........and with the new being able to pay 'stars', Alabama has enough well heeled alumni to hire everyone on the Tide roster to sell their product in TV commercials in the entire state of Alabama. What Pitt does have is a first class program, a first class coach, that can compete in the ACC Coastal year in and year out, which is a first class conference and the big time. Every now and then they can make a run at the ACC, and have a banner year, probably finish in the top ten. If they do that, and our kids are not getting arrested and embarrass the stuffing out of us, and the university, I'm fine with this. I sat through a chaotic, revolving door program that was a laughing stock for too many years. You 'win at all cost' yinzers have cost us enough already. You got your way by whining and carrying on for too long, and now the ship has righted. Most of you won't even go to the BC game, you'll sit here and whine on the computer. I'll be there, an old guy in my Pitt stocking hat, cheering on my Panthers. That is the end of my 23rd post, Pitt Family.
