Yeah, I think that "reports out of Texas" have it backwards. It looks like Herman is passing on Texas to pick LSU, and that as a result of that Texas might keep Strong.

Where to even begin with this old snafu Texas has caused. First he is fired then next he going to be re-evauliated until after the season to now possibly keeping his job. Just fire the poor man pay him his 10 million and let him take another good gig. The Hire Herman and claim your program "is on the rise."
I could definitely see that happening with Strong. Texas needs to cut the cord, and hire Herman. Strong is still a good coach, and would do well at a low pressure place like Rutgers, or UConn, both of whom should be on the phone to Strong the second he's fired.
Texas should keep Charlie Strong. He came in 3 short years ago and cleaned house. If Texas doesn't want to go down the road of mediocrity and instability like a certain program we all love then they ought to give this guy his full 5 years to get things right.
Agree. It just doesn't feel like the time to make a change. UT has been playing a true freshman at quarterback all season, so if this kid makes a jump it should help in the W-L column in 2017. I just can't get over though the same mistakes happening over and over again each and every week. That is a poor reflection on Strong and he better retool his staff this offseason.
If Strong is fired, why take a job for the next two years?

Texas is going to "evaluate Strong at the end of the season" translates to "we're not going to fire him until his replacement has signed the contract".
One of the goofiest things I'd read was that after poor October in Houston, Herman lost steam. Then, after beating Louisville handily, he regained it. I gave the boosters at UT the benefit of the doubt and assumed it was nonsense.
The way things are in Texas, the next coach is always the best coach. Like the backup QB is always the best one on the roster.
Hottest name in the nation just lost to Memphis. I think Herman's legit but he had an odd year. Definitely showed up big in the biggest games. But the losses leave a bit to be desired. Gonna finish with the 4th or 5th best record in AAC league play.

Maybe "Speed, Jr." should be the hot coaching property.
I have no idea if he is a great coach or not, what I do know is it's pretty damn nice having LSU and Texas in a bidding war for your services..

No doubt. But, that was a pretty weak October for Houston. Lost to Navy and then SMU by 20+ in October. He's good. Don't get me wrong. But, he was more impressive last season than he was this season.
The year before Strong got there. They went 7-2 in Big 12 play. His first year 5-4, 2nd year 4-5, this year 3-6.

Yeah, LSU just promoted Orgeron to full time HC.
They said they would not be held hostage by Herman. That probably means he said no.
I like Strong and see why Texas wants him gone but sometimes you have to give a program time. Texas hired Herman so I feel for those Houston kids now, they are losing a good coach.

Herman used LSU to get the offer from Texas, the job he wanted all along. Well done, I guess.
