Top 3 Realistic Choices

Not assinine--just wishful thinking on your part, IMHO.

One big reason is that ACC membership badly damaged our traditional recruiting footprint. The corollary to that is that we lost the ability to regularly play our traditional northestern (i.e., Big East) opponents which had made us attractive to recruits from the northeast. Notice that Syracuse has slumped and BC has been a total mess since joining the ACC. The ACC makes our ceiling about where Syracuse is now and our more typical position like that of BC.

If you really think that then I am not sure why you would want to continue to be a fan.

It is a good point on our recruiting footprint though. I mean other than the occasional Syracuse or BC recruit, no one in the ACC ever recruits players from our "Big East recruiting footprint".

Idk, times have changed. Instead of recruiting NY/NJ kids from public or parochial schools in the metro area, you now recruit NY/NJ kids who transferred to a basketball academy in Virginia and NIL nationally. Capel's recruiting has been fine, the mass transfer outs and late season collapses have been the big problem.

Who has transferred out that would really make a difference other than Toney ?

Terrell Brown had an excellent 5th year though it was in the WCC. I do wonder if X or MacGowans could have been a better team player if not for the chemistry issues or if put next to any three point shooters. Maybe not, but Femi last year was a terrible PG imho.

It’s nice to say he’s recruited enough good players , but he really hasn’t . Justin went pro and he was the only true difference maker to leave . While Toney was good , he was a terrible guy to have around . X and Trey showed flashes of brilliance , but they never
flourished elsewhere . Sure Pitt would’ve been better than they were had they stayed and bought into the program , but they didn’t plus they didn’t win with them here . Saying maybe with another coach they’d have been better and won more. ,but they came here with Capel .

TB wasn’t going to make a difference ,but every now and then he‘d surprise you with his play .

^I mostly agree, I just think the late season collapses combined with the transfers make every year end worse than they began and makes fans give up.

Though this year we are starting extra bad out of the gate.

Nobody was interested the last time they did a coaching search and the program was in better shape. Why would anyone be interested now? They would use this as an opportunity to renegotiate their contract.

Just because some of us predict Capel will be back next year doesn’t mean we’re thrilled with the idea. It’s a matter of reading the tea leaves.

Again, for those who didn’t catch Chris’ post game podcast, I encourage you to watch it.
I can only think of one reason that a decent coach would be interested....because you'll get a $3-$4M per year deal for 5 years, which Heather will extend to 10 years after a couple of mediocre seasons. At the end of the day, even if you produce crap, you'll be hanging around Pitt collecting your $4M. Low expectations coupled with lack of accountability and a decent paycheck....you're basically set for life. Not a bad gig.
