Ok they're not Duke, but they're better than some of the OOC teams we're gonna play.
Their two big guys, Valdonato and Hicks both can play and I wish we had them this
year. However, our bigs fought them all game long. Chuka worked his ass off tonight
and really hustled on both ends of the floor. His turn around this year is a reflection
on great coaching IMO. Chuka's first two buckets were a result of sticking to the play
in rotation and ending up with two lay ups.
Brown looked as though he awoke from the dead in this game. Again, I attribute
this to Capel's coaching. IMO, Capel told him..."no hustle, no intensity = bench time."
Both Brown and Chuka give us very little on the offensive glass. So far, that appears to
me to be our biggest weakness. However they're leap years better than last year.
All in all, we beat a decent team with some talent. Yes, Frame was hot, yes Johnson
played a very good floor game (for a freshman it was a GREAT floor game).
The energy, and intensity is unbelievable. these players appear to believe in
themselves and are playing with a degree of confidence. I'm really impressed
so far. I also like what I see from Capel when it comes to game management.

I was worried about Capel's in game coaching before the season started. I am no longer even mildly concerned. I think he is doing a terrific job in that respect.

Also, it is amazing what he is getting out of Kene and Brown.

When was the last time an opponent made 25 of 28 FTs and we won anyway? Incredible!

Yeah, I feel good about what I see of him from the bench too. His substitutions
are very good IMO. He also has a rotation of at least nine or ten players who
all are contributing. Stevenson's absence appears to be more about attitude and
intensity. There was a lot of chatter on here about his lack of time being due
to sickness. I'm not at practice, but my guess, it's attitude and intensity.
There was also chatter on here about Brown's time on the floor...was it
effort and intensity or was it something else? Was he benched or not?
IMO, clearly he was benched. His time was depleted last game, and he
didn't start tonight either. Iggy even got in ahead of him. I'm certain
Capel sent him a message. As I posted before....no energy,
no effort and intensity = bench time. Capel is doing great as far as I'm
concerned.

I think I'm more worried about the defensive rebounding than the offensive rebounding. Not just because it gives up too many points, but the fast break offense is predicated on getting those rebounds.

I have not studied this with near the intensity of many on the BBall board, so I have to ask. Have Kene and Brown improved as much as it appeared in this game?

First of all there is system in place on the offensive end. When they're on the
floor they fit into the motion and it forces them to rotate to the ball and not
stand around like statues as was the case last year. Their improvement
is obviously due to what's going on in practice. If you saw last night's game,
Chuka scored twice early by rotating to the ball and getting a feed for easy
lay ups. He hustled every minute he was on the floor.
Brown likewise hustled and showed a new found energy. He looked like
a changed player. I'm certain this is due to Capel's work with him in
practice and just as important......sitting his ass during the VMI game and
then not starting him last night. Even Iggy got into the game before him.
THAT sent a loud and clear message IMO.

With all that said, improved as they are, they are both weak on the boards,
and also get outmuscled for position. We've seen all three teams getting
second and third shots repeatedly. We also don't see us getting anything
on the boards on our end offensively. They're a work in progress, but
IMO they're both much improved...Chuka in all three games, Brown
last night.

As Chescat states, this was not Chump team. I wish we had a couple of their Big Men. This team could penetrate, like we can, pass well, and shoot fouls with the best of them.

If we would have come out and taken this team lightly, it would have been bye bye for us
