Typical louisville

hideous no call even with just a few seconds left

There have been some really questionable calls and non calls in end game situations in this tournament.

Shoulder Block

That is a foul - hey ref Louisville was TRYING TO FOUL - and they did - and you let it go..... at least give UCirvine one shot with 2 seconds left to tie it.

Re: Shoulder Block

Disagree that it was a foul. Just watched it about 10 times. The defender poked the ball out before contact. The contact looked mutual as both players reacted to the loose ball with contact.

UC Irvine blew the game on their last possession. it was about as badly managed as it possibly could've been . That was the game right there.

well then

we can agree to disagree as we have before - looked like a shoulder block into the ball handlers shoulder to me.

I see the contact slightly before he pokes it away.

Your comments are good though.

I think your sign....

that it probably wasn't a foul is the reaction of the Irvine player. He didn't bitch to the ref, he didn't even really look at the ref, he just kept playing the game. He was mad at himself for losing the ball, he wasn't complaining and looking for a call. Usually when that happens it's because the guy knows that it wasn't really a foul.

I think he just knew it was over

he knew there was no point in saying anything since there was only 2 or 3 seconds left when it happened.

he just lay there on the floor.

I think the point the original poster made is then when Louisville plays, the ref's can only call so many fouls and Louisville gets away with more hacking and fouling than just about anyone.

Come on in that situation, that is called a foul 95 times out of 100, maybe 98 or 99. Louisville guy made a play knowing the worst that could happen is they call a foul, which is what Patino admitted they were trying to do.

I do agree.....

with the original point that teams that play the way that Louisville does get away with a lot more fouls than other teams do, because the refs know that if they call the game tight all over the court Louisville sometimes might not have any guys left to play the second half. Georgetown was always a beneficiary of that under the elder John Thompson.

Re: I think your sign....

Pitino said he told him to give the foul because the 'Ville had another foul to give.

It didn't really matter. UCI would have had to in-bound the ball from mid-court with under 4 seconds left. They might have made a miracle shot but it is unlikely.

When you take down the opponent with your shoulder, it really doesn't matter if you hit got the ball first or not. It's a foul.
