UCLA-Gonzaga

Honestly I can’t believe anyone is nitpicking the officiating or coaching in that game. That was just a great game played at an incredibly high level and maximum effort by every measure. Epic.
Not at all intended to single you out. Was browsing the thread from the beginning.

I used to feel much the same way about Cronin that you do, for many of the same reasons you do. But he's grown on me.

I really liked his comments about Pitt after they beat us in the 13-14 season. Pure respect for Pitt and Dixon at the time.
I have no problem with Cronin now. He cries no more than half of the coaches in college and I respect how hard his players play for him.

Bruins played great all around, maybe the best shooting they have in them, but I credit their rebounding for putting them in a position to win. Limited the Zags to one shot all night and limited the fast breaks. Best game I watched in a long time.
Totally. UCLA gave a clinic on blocking out. Without some bounces, Gonzaga couldn't get near an offensive rebound. UCLA was so impressive. Gonzaga sliced and diced everybody -- until tonight.

Yeah
Was really impressed that UCLA made Gonzaga work for almost every possession .
Gonzaga is just so multiple

NBA Draft Net shows three Gonzaga players in the first round, with Timme at number 41 in the second. Sam Young was picked at 36. One can infer that Gonzaga has four players basically as good as or better than Sam Young. That's how good Gonzaga is, and that's how well UCLA played. A magnificent game.

What a special, special game. One of the all time greats. From the tip to Suggs shot at the end, it was fantastic.

The sport really needed this game and it really needed a Gonzaga/Baylor final.
Let's hope the final we were all looking forward to is somewhere close to this game.

UCLA was taking and making really tough shots.

Nembhard has a shot to go late 2nd round as well. Just a tremendous accumulation of talent on one team.

Want to know what I loved about the UCLA game? The art of the 2 point jump shot. Yes folks, you can get points for shooting a 15 foot jump shot. It is not illegal.

Analytically, I think the way UCLA played tonight would generally be regarded as ill-advised in this day and age. They certainly made it work tonight, but I don't know if it's something you'd want to live and die on.

Truly tremendous talent, and tremendous teamwork, too. They are so much fun to watch.

No disrespect to Sam, one of my favorite Pitt players of the Howland and beyond era, but he wasn’t on the same planet as Timme as an all around college basketball player. Timme does it all. Pitt hasn’t had a player with his all-around ability since the early 90s or so.

they were super efficient with their half court offense. So much so nobody noticed they still made 8 3s to Zaga’s 9. They were very impressive and their effort level was incredible.

Which Pitt player in the early 90’s reminds you of Timme?

Ha ha. I am not making a comparison, just a measuring stick of a mock draft, for what's it's worth. I assume you are implying that Young was on an extraterrestrial level. After all, where did that famous 2009 UConn game performance come from, if not outer space? It was definitely out of this world.

None quite like him actually. He does it all. I was thinking back to the talent level and inpact of front court guys like Lane, Shorter or Charles Smith. They all impacted games and outcomes in multiple ways beyond scoring. Blair was a monster but offensively he was pretty much a back to the basket guy limited to the area around the rim, he was not a good passer and could not face up and knock down a shot.

Wasn’t Suggs recovery of the ball illegal after the block? He stepped out of bounds and was the first person to touch the ball after the block.

As long as he gets both feet in bounds he's good. I'm not 100% sure he did.

Obvious height difference but Shorter did have some similar post moves to his game.

He's not correct. That is not goaltending at all.
I think you could question calling it a foul more so than goal-tending. Not that I would call it a foul but it did look like he swatted the back of his hand to get the block more so than just swatting the ball. On a regular shot (not a dunk), doing that would normally draw the foul call.

I’ll never figure out why Juzang didn’t stop and pop instead of continuing into Timme. The dude can make any shot from anywhere.
Was thinking the same at the time but he got hacked across the arms on his drive and it looked like caused him to lose his balance a little bit-his intention from the go was probably that he’d just get to the rim, draw contact end the game on the FT line.

Hope it's a good game on Monday but conflicted on who to root for - really like Few's program and Baylor feels very dirty to me. So I guess it's the Zags!!
Prefer the way Baylor plays. Prefer the Zags program. Win, win kinda for me.

Funny how I was thinking before this game that there hasn’t been a game yet in this tournament that ended on a buzzer beater.

The more the game evolves, the more and more I hate the charge call and I would be in favor of eliminating it. Offensive fouls for lowering the shoulder or pushing off/extended the forearm can remain in the game, but with the athleticism that players have nowadays and the extra step that a player jumping towards the rim is permitted in today's game, someone should not be allowed to just stand five feet from the basket waiting to collapse on contact. At the same time I don't think it should be an automatic blocking foul if you are standing stationary in the paint and get contacted by a driving shooter, but I think the rules of the game nowadays need updated.

No matter how good the game will be on Monday it won’t match this classic.

A taller (and more talented) Chris McNeal maybe?

I’m reaching, I don’t really remember a Pitt player with a similar game to Timme’s.
Timme's footwork down in the blocks is brilliant. His spin moves and drop steps are a thing of beauty and he has a great left hand.

Well I agree if you are going to take a 20 footer (a long 2) it makes no sense to not step back for a 3. But you are outside the key, at the elbow or FT line, why not take the jumper instead of overpassing or overdribbling into trouble.
