Urban Meyer and Tomlin

Vick is finished. Guy had 6 passing yards.

He was finished last year and should have been taken out in the San Diego game. But I thought OSU was going to let Penn State comeback last night screwing around with Cardale Jones. Barrett comes in and leads OSU to 3 touchdowns then Meyer brings back Jones to start the 3rd quarter?

OSU has won 20 straight games and you are questioning the decisions of the head coach. LOL

Urban Meyer has said publicly Jones is the better passer and Barrett is more the running threat. Nothing has been shown by Barrett to prove otherwise. Jones may not be playing great, but Barrett rarely throws when in the game. Also, I just can't overlook what Jones did last year in the playoffs. I really don't think they win the NC without him. He was absolutely unstoppable, he's so big if he got tackled at the line scrimmage he was falling forward for 2-3 yards.

Tomlin on the other hand had the rare luxury of taking over a team with an elite franchise quarterback who was still very young in his career also. He's never, ever had to worry about the most important position. With Ben out the fact that Tomlin is a player's coach is looking like it could hurt if he keeps his boy Vick in. If it wasn't obvious his obsession over the guy, this wouldn't even be a discussion. There is nobody else out there who thinks Vick can still play at a level good enough to help the team win.

And until yesterday there was no one in the world that thought Jones could play at a level to help any team win. Look, Vick has stunk. But guess what? When you lose a franchise caliber QB, then the backup is bound to suck. Heck, half the starters in the league stink.

Really, how many guys would actually be "acceptable" leading a team? Rodgers, Brady, huge gap, P. Manning, Ben, huge gap, overrated Luck, Rivers, Scam Newton, gap, Flacco, Wilson, E. Manning that is about it. Anyone else and you are throwing a loser out there, and I was generous with some of these guys.

Defense wins games when the QB situation is in disarray. Holding a team to 10 points in a half when the QB throws for 250 yards helps the QB out. When the starting QB gets hurt, after 2 yards of offense in a half, it helps the coach out when the 3rd stringer comes in and moves the ball.

I did not think Jones was much of anything coming into yesterday, but you can't compare Vick's day yesterday to starting QB's. They had 1 passing yard at halftime, Antonio Brown while Vick was in had negative receiving yards. He's not just bad, he's not a quarterback. He's a glorified running back basically.

Vick is done. In his prime, he was possibly the most explosive runner ever to set foot on a football field. When he broke the line of scrimmage, defenses had a stroke because he was always a threat to go 50+ yards. This made it easier for him to pass,as teams were more interested in trying to contain him. Now, he's just a good runner, not great, and they don't have to worry about him running. Plus he can't be more than 5'10". He can't see from the pocket, which makes it tough for him. That said, you can't compare Landry Jones to Barrett. Barrett is proven, Landry most certainly was not.

Ohio State's best qb is playing wideout. Barrett is good, but he's not a pimple on Braxton Miller's rump. I wonder if Miller's arm is close to 100% now? They could cancel the rest of the season if Miller was healthy, and behind center.

I totally agree with all your points. Just wanted to point out though, I was comparing Landry Jones to Mike Vick. I was comparing J.T. Barrett to Cardale Jones. I thought Cardale Jones was incredibly impressive in the playoffs last year and the difference maker for Ohio State. In the Steelers case, I agree I think Vick is just flat out washed up.

I understand that, it's just that we know Barrett can play, but most were convinced that Landry Jones was a flat out stiff. Thus, most were reluctant to see him come in, even with Vick playing poorly. I think most feared that Jones would turn the ball over. The one big advantage Jones has, is that he's been here 3 years, and should have a grasp of the offense by now.

Yes as I said and this post too, totally agree with you. I was very worried about Landry having to play. I'm still not convinced he can make a living in the NFL other than a 3rd stringer, maybe the top backup at best. But with the way they opened the playbook up more with Jones than with Vick, he clearly knows the offense better. Still looks like he's gonna misfire badly every now and then, but Vick is wildly inaccurate mostly all the time. Looks like a moot point though, Vick appears to be out next week. So it's either Landry Jones at QB or Big Ben returns, possibly just a week or so too early. I'd like to see Ben play, but not if the injury is not fully healed and he's another hit away from his season being over.
