Well, when represented by NBA players that is. Australia beat them 98-94 in Melbourne yesterday. Will this group, which is essentially a C team, maybe even a D team win the FIBA World Cup, which disappointingly is only on ESPN+?

They beat the Celtics / Spurs/ Bucks team. They have 8 of the 12 spots so it doesn't surprise me.

So this is on no regular TV channels at all? I think I have ESPN+ still, but I can't DVR stuff on that. Honestly, basketball is so popular worldwide, #2 to soccer, they can't even get it on the NBA Network or CBS Sports or something? All those channels show is replays of old games and lower level college football.

Yes, it's like an NBA C Team, I don't recognize a lot of the names, I AM ROOTING FOR GREECE TO WIN THE GOLD anyways, with Giannis, they are picked in the Top 3 and have a real shot, they beat USA in 2006 when Giannis was a little kid and Team USA was LeBron, Melo and the boyz.

You have ESPN3, not ESPN+. ESPN+ is not available on TV through Comcast like ESPN3.

Oh? So I won't have any of this on any channel?

Why are they not televising at least some of this, I mean to me, I'd thing the USA team vs. Giannis and his brother would be pretty compelling to NBA fans.

They used to televise it, I remember watching Greece beat the USA in 2006.

So you’re a US citizen but you’re “rooting for Greece”? Yeah makes sense. Wow

But if you have ESPN+ you don't need a dvr, because the replays are available to watch at least for some amount of time. I mean I guess if you wanted to watch a game from a month or two ago you might be out of luck, but why would you want to do that?

It is really not that great of a team. It's got a bunch of nice players, very few studs.

ESPN outbid everyone for it and they want to put it on ESPN+ to drive up subscriptions. Its that simple

The US team beat the same Australia team a few days before this game by 14 or 16 points.

So you’re a US citizen but you’re “rooting for Greece”? Yeah makes sense. Wow
Hell YES! I'm like the Mexicans waving Mexican flags. I have a Greek flag in my back yard flying next to a USA flag. I love the USA, but I love my origins too! I was rooting for the Greeks to beat that A-hole Coach K, LeBron, Melo and the boyz in 2006, because it was cool watching GUYS THAT LOOK LIKE ME, beat them. I EASILY could hang out with the Greek players and have WAY MORE in common than I would with the USA team, so yeah, GO GREECE! BEAT USA!

And they probably didn't have to bid very much at all. It's not like there is going to be any sort of real demand to watch those games.
Sad, I'd watch that tournament closely, it would really interest, me, way more than the NBA. I've lost interest in basketball because like 90% of the programing is NBA, never any variety, sad, I played a lot, I was in organized leagues until age 40 or so. This tournament is interesting to me, way more than NBA games.

This really takes me back to the whole ACC Network discussion. People say, get Hulu or YouTube+ or ESPN+ or whatever, then they say it's only $30 a month, then you add it up, you end up wanting to see multiple things and all of a sudden you have 5-6 subscriptions at $30/month.

There are no legit superstars on this team. Kemba, Donovan Mitchell, and Kris Middleton are our best players. Mitchell and Middleton aren't even the best players on their teams (neither of the best are Americans). A few third-tier players who are good, not amazing, like Tatum. Most of the other guys are role players in the NBA.

I'd take team USA (LeBron, KD, Curry, Kawhi, Anthony Davis with a bench of Harden and Chris Paul) against the World's best (Giannis, Porzingas, Dragic?, Ben Simmons, Embiid and Jokic/Gobert on the bench). But we'd certainly crush any individual country if we played our stars.

Maybe, we "should" but look at the USA roster in this game...

Out
Dwight Howard
Elton Brand
Joe Johnson
Kirk Hinrich

In
Shaq
Tim Duncan
Kobe
Allen Iverson

Win by 60
It's all hindsight. So shouldn't Melo, LeBron and Dwayne Wade have been able to handle that? That was the expectation.

What will happen is the repeat of the typical cycle, the USA doesn't win gold, so everyone complains and we get another Dream Team by the 2020 Olympics.

The difference between the USA and the other national teams, is the USA players aren't as dedicated to the national team, the foreign players care about their national teams as much as their NBA or other pro teams, USA players skip national team events to rest up for the NBA preseason. It would be like if the superstars of the England national soccer team skipped the world cup to rest up for the Premier League.

Why don't you move to Greece then? LOL - USA! USA! - H2P!

I did live there for awhile and wanted to stay, it's a far superior lifestyle, I had a job, but I was an illegal alien working illegally and had to give it up, came back here and got a job, and stayed.

I hope you're being ironic.

I also hope Giannis smashes the American squad. I'll take entertainment over jingoism any day of the week.
It's not on TV, but you can watch condensed 15 minute versions free on YouTube, Greece pounded Montenegro 85-60, Montenegro cut the lead in half ear the end, it was DUNK CITY for Greece, Giannis was awesome for maybe 15 Minutes, but most of the show was Greek white guys throwing down from all angles, Only Montenegro sure, but they looked awesome, tougher test today vs. Brazil.

i love the hardwood classics circa 80's. I watched a hawks vs celts playoff game, think it was around '87 and '88. Tons of white dudes, and im not just talking about ainge and bird either. Hawks had like 3 white dudes actually playing.

Was the score 56-38? ;)

No, those aren't bad, I love watching the old playoffs between Chicago and Detroit, Bulls/Lakers. Recently I saw a cool one, they showed the final ABA championship game, Dr J playing for the NY Nets 1977, but I'm just saying, this World Cup is current, I can't believe they aren't televising any of it? It's better than reruns.

Go back and look at the scores from the 60s, way higher than today.
I don't need to....I saw those games. No 3 pointers, either. No shot clock?? Not sure when that started??
1954-55. Wow. It took Dean Smith's 4 corners to get one in college ball.

80s was high scoring. Mid to Late 90s/early 2000s was when there was the historical dip before it increased again.

24 second clock started in 1954. Basically pro basketball has always had it since there was TV/an actual league. 1960s were also the fastest paced game in terms of shots per game, by a wide margin. It'd be fast break, one or two passes, and jump shot or hook by a center.
