Usa v Jamaica

You should have watched it on Universo for free like me.

As for the replays, its a CONCACAF feed. The only difference from network to network are the announcers.

Boring game. I cant believe the US cant go into these 3rd world countries and get a win. Just unbelievable. They can never make things easy on themselves. Ultimately, its going to come down to a home game vs Panama that they're going to have to at least draw, which they should do.

Michael Antonio - fk has been on his d*** for weeks and he didn't disappoint. What a goal. It stings though that this guy has probably never even been to Jamaica until this week. Though we benefit from those ringers more than anyone.

Cant wait to watch USA/Mexico in the Edmonton snow
It was free, I just signed up this afternoon for Paramount +.

Both teams are fortunate for entirely different reasons to draw. Jamaica could have and probably would have been a man or 2 down with some very studs up tackles in the first half.

The U.S. could have had a possible penalty called against them in the 1st half for handling in the box and again the phantom foul on Zimmerman that negated the go ahead for Jamaica.

Overall Concacaf is pathetic. The fact that they can't, don't and won't pump any money into these federations for setup of VAR, a good and solid pitch to play on.

I know Europeans always question how hard it is to qualify in Concacaf but I guarantee if you send England or Germany down to play on some of these ragged pitches, sure they'll more than likely win but it won't be a 10-0 win like England had against San Marino today.

Overall 1 point is better than no points and the next window should be an automatic 6 points with homes against El Salvador and Honduras. If they can nick a point @ Canada 7 of 9 is a good window.

CBS (paramount) is negotiating with the EPL on the next contract. ESPN and NBC also in the negotiates. 2 billion dollars. I love the job NBC is doing.

The interesting thing though is that one of the reasons that the EPL opened the deal up for full negotiations rather than re-up with NBC in their negotiating period is that when NBC started showing all those games on Peacock Premium, including moving many of the best game there last year, it really pissed off a lot of league higher-ups over in England.

While I get that NBC, CBS and ESPN probably all want to push as many games to streaming as possible, I will guarantee you that the PL will take less money to get better guarantees that the top games will be shown on "regular cable". They think that in the long run they still need the exposure more than they need a few more dollars now, and that moving all or most of the games to streaming will hurt the league in the long run.

BTW, the Canucks beat Mexico tonight, 2-1. Cyle Larin scored in 1st half stoppage time and then scored again right after halftime, and Mexico only got a goal in the 90th minute. They must have had the Canadian goal under siege at the end, because in the last five (of eight) minutes of stoppage time they had three shots saved, one shot wide of the goal, and three more shots blocked by Canadian defenders.

Canada takes over 1st place with 16 points. The US is second on 15. Mexico and Panama tied for 3rd on 14, with Mexico ahead on goal differential. Costa Rica with 9, Jamiaca with 7, El Salvador with 6 and Honduras holds up the bottom with 3.

I watched the 1st half on univision before I went to bed. I could only imagine how hard that pitch was. Last I heard it was hovering around 0 fahrenheit at gametime. Canada is fortunate, how Doniel Henry escaped not even a yellow card for his 1st minute assault of Chucky Lozano is mind blowing.

Canada has some solid talent but I wonder about their depth off the bench. I think they can make some noise in Qatar.

Official game time temperature was 14 degrees. Wind chill at kick off was 5 degrees.

It's nuts to play a game in that sort of environment. I wonder if those idiots are thinking of playing the game against the US in a couple months outside somewhere?

On XM today they were saying that the wind chill was -15 in Edmonton.

they also said there is a possibility of Edmonton again, or even Vancouver for the US game but it’s too much travel for the Euro players. So the strongest rumor right now is Hamilton of all places and on field turf.

I got those numbers from the ESPN story about it being the coldest game that Mexico has ever played in. Like yeah, no sh!t. Do we think it was colder when they played a game in Monterey or something?

Canada has one of those wonderful travel windows next time. At Honduras, the home to the US, then at El Salvador. I'd say they would be looking for a way to reduce travel as much as possible, but with a schedule like that is it really even possible?

The US has kind of the mirror schedule. Home with El Salvador then at Canada then home for Honduras. Travel will be much easier for the US players.

Don't under estimate the stupidity of U.S. Soccer.

Home to El Salvador in Boston then Canada decides on Vancouver then U.S. Soccer decides on Miami for Honduras.

What they ought to do (if they can) is wait for Canada to announce their location first. If they pick someplace like Vancouver then the US should play first somewhere like Portland. If Canada picks someplace like Hamilton then the US should play their first game no further west than about Kansas City.

Canada isn't going to play indoors in Vancouver. It wants to take advantage of the cold.

The US has to be really careful about where they choose to play Honduras and El Salvador. I remember a Gold Cup game in Baltimore with like 60K ES fans and a WCQ at Soldier Field with like 50K Hondurans.

Columbus, Cincinnati, and KC guarantee American crowds but you also risk it being 0 and/or snow and if ifs a snow game like vs Costa Rica years back, that can really go either way.

I would say Nashville since it'll be 30s and 40s and that's far enough away from immigrant communities (or is it too close to ATL) but the US cant win there and the stadium is too big.

I guess Portland/Seattle is a possibility but they'd have to install grass in the winter.

Indianapolis is indoors and there's not many immigrants in Indiana but its probably too close to Chicago.

The USSF can't mess this up.

They might, but why would they think that the cold is going to give them any sort of real advantage? Their players play in the same environments that the US players play in.

On the other hand, they play that game outside somewhere and they run the risk that they can't play the game. And if they can't play the game when it is scheduled then their team is going to be really hurt by that.

And what do you mean by "I guess Portland/Seattle is a possibility but they'd have to install grass in the winter"? Why would they have to do that? I mean we are one day removed from the Canada/Mexico game being played on field turf. Why wouldn't the US be allowed to play on it?

The US isn't going to play a home WCQ on turf. I can't even remember them playing any home friendlies on turf. They put grass down in East Rutherford and in domes for friendlies. I understand what Canada did but the US isnt Canada. There's no way they're playing on turf at home. However, it isnt like a newly installed grass surface in Seattle or Portland will be that good.

Its really a difficult decision. I have a feeling its going to be Nashville. Thinking way outside the box, how about Birmingham's new USL stadium? Its MLS size and I don't think there's many immigrants in Alabama but again, might be too close to Atlanta.

If they can do it, I'd just book Columbus and Cincinnati (or KC) and then move it on 3-4 days notice if they're allowed.

It's as if you don't understand the difference between "have to" and "want to". The United States would absolutely not HAVE TO install temporary grass, but if they decided to play there they would certainly WANT TO install temporary grass. Those two do not mean the same thing.

BTW, you may have noticed that they announced today that NBC got the EPL rights for the next six years. Six years, $2.7 billion dollars. More than double per season what they had been paying.

More qualifier news. The continental playoffs were originally supposed to be a home and home, but today FIFA decided to change that to two single games, winner take all, at a neutral site.

Even more reason to finish in the top three.

Also those two games aren't going to be played until after the draw for the World Cup, which means that those two teams are surely going to be put in pot 4 and end up with much harder draws than they otherwise might.

Well, if you are finishing 5th in Asia, 6th in SA, and 4th in Concacaf, you're probably going to be in Pot 4 anyway.

If the US finishes 4th, it'll probably be a greater failure than their 5th place finish last time.

If they put the teams in the pots strictly based on their FIFA rankings (and they don't, and they never have) there is very little chance that the US could manage to finish 4th in CONCACAF and not be ranked high enough to be better than Pot 4. Mexico is in the same boat. Canada and Panama are not.

Right but that's FIFA rankings for you. If the US or Mexico finish 4th, they suck and absolutely should be in Pot 4

Playing in that qualifier would likely be vs a South American team? That would be brutal.

Playing in that qualifier would likely be vs a South American team? That would be brutal.

They used to draw it before the WCQ even started so like 3 years in advance you knew who CONCACAF was playing. Not sure how they do it now. Maybe they do kinda what Europe does and use FIFA rankings to determine the 2 top "seeds" and then draw to have them play the 3-4 seeds.

So like right now, the SA team and Panama would likely be the seeded teams and play the lower seeds, New Zealand and the Asian team (looking like UAE, Lebanon, or Iraq). So if they do that, it would take a pretty major upset for SA or Panama to not go through.

No seeded teams. Four names into a pot. One plays two, three plays four. The team from CONCACAF will be just as likely to play the CONMEBOL team as the Oceania team.

In fact they can't really seed the teams, because the draw to determine which teams will play each other will take place next Friday. They are going to do the draw for the European teams that made the playoffs and then they are having the draw for the continental playoffs right after that.

Of course there are still five days until that draw takes place, so there is time for them to change the format again.
