Vader: Capel breaks the Recruiting Dam and Here we come, Drumgoole to Pitt

What was the scoop? Any scoop in any of his posts? All he says every time is some vague good thing is going to happen. We're closing gaps! We're making up ground! The dam will break!

Get yourself a Magic 8-ball and you'd get the same quality of prediction.
Gosh... I can’t ever figure out why posters tend to be so critical of guys like Vader... let him post and we’ll draw our own conclusions. If you think his info is flimsy, thar’s your personal call.

Just write information. Stick to that. You are very good at that. The part that is the sensitive point for people is when you proclaim that you knew what was going to happen all along. Example: The dam was going to break. Of course it was eventually.
I can see that being a sensitive point...………………..for children.

I think he is mostly doing it to get people's goat, and succeeding greatly.

I'd love to see more talk about the actual recruit we got and less about who posted it. But that's just me.

Exactly. I cannot understand for the life of me why people are so obsessed with him. Can we just talk about the players and possibilities rather than his silly metaphors or quality of his predictions? My goodness, getting triggered over this guy is baffling.

Perhaps I should clarify then.

There is a big difference between the dam being clogged and the dam breaking. Let me explain since I must in layman's terms so its quite clear like a piece of fine crystal.

The dam being clogged is what you had with Jamie Dixon and Kevin Stallings the last 5 years. Players that are not ready to play, major project recruits, major reaches, players signed for the practice team, etc.. The results speak for themselves. We went from competitive, to non competitive, to bad, to a self imposed death penalty from Scott Barnes and Kevin Stallings. That's called clogging the dam with waste with no resolution. Clogging the dam with weak players committing to Pitt to play basketball. Who here wants that? Who wants a recruit just to say we have a recruit committed? That's not the dam breaking at all. That's a clogged dam.

Recruiting project players is a clogged dam. And many people were very concerned, guessing with no clue, and had no idea what was going on. I said a long time ago I want to know how good a basketball player is which in the end is most important by far over any star system ranking.

Posting 50 points a game against teams from Alaska proves nothing and is a waste of time. Shoot 50% from 3 at La Lumiere playing powerhouse teams and 5 star players weekly and we have something to talk about. La Lumiere would beat west pa teams right into the ground by 60+ points or worse.

All one has to do is read the board or anywhere on the internet. The recruiting concern was there in clear black and white up until the commit announcement that Capel may end up with project recruits like Dixon and Stallings the last 5 years.

Project recruits = Clogged Dam = Worthless

And I kept saying patience, the dam will break.

Good Recruits = Broken Dam = Results

The dam breaking is what we have with Jeff Capel or what we are hoping to have. Players that have legit offers, or with legit skill sets, ready to compete in a legit power conference, the ACC. The dam breaking are players that can help us compete for an ACC title or a Final 4 somewhere down the road. The dam breaking, at minimum, are players that will get us back to the NCAA Tournament and respectability.

Im not going to waste my time talking about a coach recruiting players that will build a clogged dam. It was asked why I joined this board last December. Do you honestly think I have an interest writing out the long information filled posts that I do with the last 5 years results under the failed leadership and failed recruiting of Jamie Dixon and Kevin Stallings during those 5 years? That answer is no, in black and white.

Every player that I mention is a player that I, as in Vader, as in me only, feels is a player that can impact Pitt and get us to where we want to go. These posts that I write are mine. Everything else is a crazy conspiracy that Im this person or that person.

Does anyone seriously believe I am tied into PSN after that weak piece they wrote last night on Drumgoole and his offer list? I have zero tie to them, none. Yea, lets write an article celebrating Drumgoole was offered by Quinnipiac. Someone from West Virginia could have wrote something better.

Honestly, PSN should be embarrassed for writing something like that. And people think I am Vuk? That's a laugh in itself.

I have mentioned somewhere between 20 and 30 players since the day I joined this board. These are players that I feel will help us get to where we as Pitt fans want to go, and that's compete at the highest level.

And if some people think I am over the top, well, that's them and I could care less what they think. Some should not call a spade a spade so early and jump to premature conclusions. All one has to do is look where Xavier Johnson is right now in comparison to what he was predicted last summer (a 3 star nobody not ranked in the Top 250).

But this is a free opinion site. So all opinions are welcome.
That more like it. Well done. You didn’t pretend you were Adam Zagoria.

Welcome to the family, Gerald Drumgoole

Gerald Drumgoole

Playing for La Lumiere, the #1 high school team in the country regardless of class or division, it’s strange more colleges and scouts are simply not paying attention. While Stewart and the far less efficient Keion Brooks are the leading scorers, both Top 20 players nationally, Drumgoole is the 3rd wheel with the best efficiency on the team shooting over 50% from the floor and a blistering hot 50% from 3 point range and over 80% from the free throw line this season (39% from 3 in EYBL / Peach Jam / Bracket Play last year). He’s also putting up over 14ppg, 5 rpg, and 2 assists per game. And La Lumiere has crushed nearly everyone they have played and they have played a lot of Nationally ranked Top 10 teams loaded with 4 and 5 star players.

A 6’6 guard or wing, he is a matchup problem from the outside and one of the best shooters in the country. But what has developed is his ability to start putting the ball on the floor and attack the basket. Drumgoole has a solid college built body and an early comparison could be to Lamar Patterson. What Drumgoole lacks to a degree is Patterson’s creativity and passing ability, he makes up for it with better shooting ability. Both have solid frames and aren’t overly explosive with the dribble drive but good enough. He does have quite a bit more athleticism and jump as opposed to Patterson. If you like Cam Johnson’s shooting, you will like Drumgoole. He’s versatile with the ability to cover multiple positions on defense.

Drumgoole is also very young just like the Champagnie twins for a senior. He won’t turn 18 years old until next July. Let’s take a look at some of the performances this year and how good this team is.

This is just how dominant La Lumiere and Drumgoole are.

Beat #3 Nationally ranked Montverde twice by 7 and 13 points

Beat #5 Dematha by 23

Beat #19 Sunrise by 22

Beat #25 Bishop by 15

This La Lumiere team has manhandled its competition. Only 5 teams the entire season have scored over 60 points on them all year long and their opposition is shooting under 30% combined for the entire year. They would rank better than a lot of college teams on Ken Pomeroys defensive efficiency chart and they have the talent to blow out a lot of college teams right now. They are the best team in the country and the best defensive team in the entire country by a mile. They are also extremely well coached. Gerald is a big part of their defense and generally takes on the best offensive player either guard or wing.

Gerald has a 36 inch vertical and is more athletic than one might think. He was last registered at 6’5 without shoes. He could very well be pushing 6’7 with shoes by the time he turns 18 this summer 6 months from now. Gerald ran point and point wing for his high school team prior to La Lumiere. He averaged 20 points per game, 9 rebounds per game, and 5 assists per game and led his team to the New State public AA State Title as a sophomore. Drumgoole is going to be a National Champion this year at La Lumiere, it is doubtful anyone is stopping them.

One of the biggest strengths to Drumgoole and why Pitt and Coach Capel like him is his coachability. He is a team player and a humble player with a team attitude to win. He knows when it is his time to shoot the ball and he does not force play. It is why he is extremely efficient and why his shooting numbers are as strong as they are. Christian Brown is not as efficient as Drumgoole and Oak Hill has more talent. While Brown’s shooting is in development, Drumgoole’s shot is college ready right now at 17 years old and Brown is a full year older than him. This is called being a smart player, a coachable player, and an efficient player. This is why La Lumiere is #1 team in the country. They don’t waste time with cheap talk and Drumgoole really is the quiet shooting sniper assassin; La Lumiere and Drumgoole just walks the walk and blows the other team right out of the gym, Vader Style.

My impact ranking for next year: 4 out of 5, college ready for impact

Closing:

Drumgoole has the tools, the coaching, the versatility, and especially the shooting to make an impact at Pitt from day 1. This team desperately needs a shooter and he offers that plus a lot more. Expect Drumgoole to swing between the 2 and 3 positions. He is far closer to a 2 guard in college right now as opposed to Christian Brown who is more of a 3 / 4 forward. Expect him to be a fan favorite quickly with his humbleness and sweet shooting 3 point stroke. Once the feet are set, splash, its going down.

Bonus Points:

Did I not say the dam was going to break multiple times on Pitt recruiting, even in the posts that are no longer viewable and deleted? I believe I did multiple times. The Dam is now broken and here comes Capel charging hard down the stretch. Patience is a quality virtue and more are coming with Gerald Drumgoole, you can bank and count on it.

Welcome to Pitt Gerald Drumgoole!

With all your posts being deleted there was a real dearth of vadar posts

I enjoy the Vader posts - he does provide info I don’t otherwise see.

And yes, this is petty, but I don’t care for the metaphors. A dam is built to hold something back. A dam breaking is actually a bad thing to happen (see recent events in Brazil). A clogged drain, and the clog breaking up, now that’s something to celebrate. But still, that stuffs going down the drain...

All that said, I appreciate the info from Vader — it’s very interesting to me.

Go Pitt.

Kudos to fellow posters for not piling on after a couple posters tried to steer the thread the way of previous Vader posts. Still not sure why a few of you bother to read the Vader posts to begin with.

Dam Stallings was holding us back.

He's the one trying to pass himself off as a talented writer. I'm just calling a spade a spade very early. I am doing it clearly like a piece of fine crystal.
So you read a college bb board for the writing skills of its posters !

Ps .. as a Pitt grad I was never required , although I did , take a writing class . So maybe a WVU or PSU board would be better suited for your reading enjoyment .

I have no problem with people sounding like idiots. However, if one is going to make up an entire shtick persona and attempt to patronize people about the “broken dam” metaphor, my absolute minimum expectation is that said poster actually understands what a dam is.

Vader style?

Shoes v No Shoes & All Hail Vader

Let's make this as clear as Waterford Crystal.

Vader is no literary stylist. At least not yet. (And isn't a dam supposed to be clogged?)
But his posts are interesting and bursting with information.
I enjoy reading him and, let's say, his evolving WWE style.

But his shoes v no shoes prediction is in a league of its own--even approaching Zen paradox level.

This is real inside recruiting stuff.
It's pushing the sneaker.

Vader, you ARE my Daddy!!!

Dam , your asking too much from a message board !

Relax the floodgates are now officially open , we’re going to be swimming in recruits ...enjoy the process !

Dang. How many accounts did Vadar create? There is no way this many people can be salivating over Vadar’s stuff. It’s good. But come on guys.

Vader is pure gold.

Regardless of where he gets his info he provides a good summary of recruits and prospective recruits. Which spurs good discussion

And he drives a segment of the fan based crazy who are obsessed with whose an insider and who isn’t.

Bravo Vader.

I don’t understand their obsession, it’s a basketball message board, which makes it all the more amusing.

Miserable people dont want to hear positive news, it messes up their vibe. This board is a good place to sell negativity. A lot of buyers.

While the vast majority likes the Vader posts, a very small minority of ass... , starting with Rockypanther, come back over and over to tell us that we should stop enjoying his comments.

Think footlong chili dog from the O, paired well with their world famous fries and gravy.
