Welcome to the family, Gerald Drumgoole
Gerald Drumgoole
Playing for La Lumiere, the #1 high school team in the country regardless of class or division, it’s strange more colleges and scouts are simply not paying attention. While Stewart and the far less efficient Keion Brooks are the leading scorers, both Top 20 players nationally, Drumgoole is the 3rd wheel with the best efficiency on the team shooting over 50% from the floor and a blistering hot 50% from 3 point range and over 80% from the free throw line this season (39% from 3 in EYBL / Peach Jam / Bracket Play last year). He’s also putting up over 14ppg, 5 rpg, and 2 assists per game. And La Lumiere has crushed nearly everyone they have played and they have played a lot of Nationally ranked Top 10 teams loaded with 4 and 5 star players.
A 6’6 guard or wing, he is a matchup problem from the outside and one of the best shooters in the country. But what has developed is his ability to start putting the ball on the floor and attack the basket. Drumgoole has a solid college built body and an early comparison could be to Lamar Patterson. What Drumgoole lacks to a degree is Patterson’s creativity and passing ability, he makes up for it with better shooting ability. Both have solid frames and aren’t overly explosive with the dribble drive but good enough. He does have quite a bit more athleticism and jump as opposed to Patterson. If you like Cam Johnson’s shooting, you will like Drumgoole. He’s versatile with the ability to cover multiple positions on defense.
Drumgoole is also very young just like the Champagnie twins for a senior. He won’t turn 18 years old until next July. Let’s take a look at some of the performances this year and how good this team is.
This is just how dominant La Lumiere and Drumgoole are.
Beat #3 Nationally ranked Montverde twice by 7 and 13 points
Beat #5 Dematha by 23
Beat #19 Sunrise by 22
Beat #25 Bishop by 15
This La Lumiere team has manhandled its competition. Only 5 teams the entire season have scored over 60 points on them all year long and their opposition is shooting under 30% combined for the entire year. They would rank better than a lot of college teams on Ken Pomeroys defensive efficiency chart and they have the talent to blow out a lot of college teams right now. They are the best team in the country and the best defensive team in the entire country by a mile. They are also extremely well coached. Gerald is a big part of their defense and generally takes on the best offensive player either guard or wing.
Gerald has a 36 inch vertical and is more athletic than one might think. He was last registered at 6’5 without shoes. He could very well be pushing 6’7 with shoes by the time he turns 18 this summer 6 months from now. Gerald ran point and point wing for his high school team prior to La Lumiere. He averaged 20 points per game, 9 rebounds per game, and 5 assists per game and led his team to the New State public AA State Title as a sophomore. Drumgoole is going to be a National Champion this year at La Lumiere, it is doubtful anyone is stopping them.
One of the biggest strengths to Drumgoole and why Pitt and Coach Capel like him is his coachability. He is a team player and a humble player with a team attitude to win. He knows when it is his time to shoot the ball and he does not force play. It is why he is extremely efficient and why his shooting numbers are as strong as they are. Christian Brown is not as efficient as Drumgoole and Oak Hill has more talent. While Brown’s shooting is in development, Drumgoole’s shot is college ready right now at 17 years old and Brown is a full year older than him. This is called being a smart player, a coachable player, and an efficient player. This is why La Lumiere is #1 team in the country. They don’t waste time with cheap talk and Drumgoole really is the quiet shooting sniper assassin; La Lumiere and Drumgoole just walks the walk and blows the other team right out of the gym, Vader Style.
My impact ranking for next year: 4 out of 5, college ready for impact
Closing:
Drumgoole has the tools, the coaching, the versatility, and especially the shooting to make an impact at Pitt from day 1. This team desperately needs a shooter and he offers that plus a lot more. Expect Drumgoole to swing between the 2 and 3 positions. He is far closer to a 2 guard in college right now as opposed to Christian Brown who is more of a 3 / 4 forward. Expect him to be a fan favorite quickly with his humbleness and sweet shooting 3 point stroke. Once the feet are set, splash, its going down.
Bonus Points:
Did I not say the dam was going to break multiple times on Pitt recruiting, even in the posts that are no longer viewable and deleted? I believe I did multiple times. The Dam is now broken and here comes Capel charging hard down the stretch. Patience is a quality virtue and more are coming with Gerald Drumgoole, you can bank and count on it.
Welcome to Pitt Gerald Drumgoole!
