where is he playing next year....TE or OT?

Somebody said Narduzzi said around the bowl game that Van Lynn was going back to OT, but I could never find it. Does it exist? I think he should stay at TE and let the young kids play on the OL.

What young kids? Isn’t he a young kid too?

tackles are basically huoy, drake and warren (Without Van Lynn) and whatever grad transfer cast off we get.. that's 4, I don't think we can afford to not have Van Lynn compete at tackle.. the pitt site lists him at 290 too, if true, that's pretty large..

honestly, I don't think its too much of a reach to say he could be our best tackle on our roster currently..

If he’s the best option at OT, and the best option to run our offense better would you really pass it up because of wanting younger inexperienced players to play instead? Should we avoid grad transfers who can improve the line too?

again, what younger guys? Him, and the other 3 tackles are all in the same class. the younger guys are redshirt freshmen guards.. he cant be referring to incoming freshmen..

I love the contrast between threads like this, and those who say Whipple will really make Pitt's offense take off next year.
Pickett will be transformed into Tom Brady, and the new RB's will take off right where our 2 1,000 yard rushers did last year!
We'll get the TE involved in the passing game (just as soon as we find one).

It's like talking to Sybil!

Are we that horrible at TE with carrigan, that Arkansas dude and a Rutgers transfer?

I mean, it’s not great, we won’t be TE U but with those 3, maybe Wright as a redshirt TE, are we that horrible at the position?

Come on dude, no one is saying that. Hell, besides daminals, most of us want to see the qb spot open for competition.

We are gonna take a huge step back at RB too. I do believe Whipple will make the O much better but that’s because you can’t get worse then watson. We should see a drastic improvement at wr too, for reasons mentioned above.

IDK? Time will tell.

What board have you been reading? People are predicting 9 or 10 wins next year!
Pickett's poor performance has been laid at the feet of Watson's poor coaching and play calling by many posters. Didn't Watson coach him in the Miami game the year before when he shined?

My point is it all starts with the O line. Last year's wasn't good, this coming years' is all built on hope. The only position that is settled is center, and he's coming off a season ending injury!

So, the QB position needs to be opened, but WR will improve drastically.
Are they going to throw the ball to themselves?

if there was a way to put a "confidence" number on Pickett, like an approval rating, i'd bet it would be extremely low.. Yeah, we blame Watson and the O line but pickett had many times when the Wrs were open, the blocking was there, the play was called and he either made wrong read or missed the throw or threw it too late..

Putting all the blame on Watson and none on pickett is beyond naïve and most pitt fans know this..

9 or 10 wins is a tad insane, considering we don't even know if or who our QB is.. yeah, our schedule is easier and we play in coastal but still, 10 wins without know if you have a QB is overly optimistic..

i'll go with8-4 but I always do 8-4..

Yes, we are horrible. Evidently the Arkansas dude can't block and the other two options aren't pass catching threats. We need someone there that can do both

I'll revise my opinion on last year's O line as fair. Or maybe I won't. Or yes I will, or...........

Ha, ha , I know, it's part of being a Pitt fan in the present. I really like HCPN but it is unclear if Pitt is actually gaining much ground......

Just play easy teams every year. There ya go. o_O

All teams like us really have are hope right? We aren't THAT bad that things should be hopeless. But not good enough to be confident either. It's literally fingers crossed for us every year. Can we luck out a couple times beyond our typical mediocrity? Like 15 and 16... and for a month or so in 18.

Tough to wave a rally towel for that sentiment.

Difference between 9-5 and 7-7. No doubt.

For the original topic. And the question above on the existing TEs. I don't think we have 3 Gronks on the roster or anything, but they are guys who played some for other P5 teams, so it shouldn't be that unreasonable to expect SOME productivity is possible there? And that our HC is wise to the trends of college and pro football (increased value of tight ends) and one reason he made an OC change, one hopes, is to get an oC who can do more there. Again... the hope.

(Edit, making assumption there is something to this rumor of the Rutgers player)

It still won't be enough for many. I give you
Exhibit A:
2009 10-3 No. 15 AP, No. 15 Coaches Poll
The beginning of the end for DW
It was the product of Wannstadt's last few years.. Seriously don't cherry pick one year

OK I'll try again(but this has little to do with DW)
Just play easy teams every year.

If you go to DW's last three years you get 27 wins and identical 5-2 conference record each year, very consistent, but against a relatively easy schedule.
It still wasn't enough for many, although it included 2009 when Pitt was 10-3 and finished 15 in the AP and Coaches Poll. In retrospect, the beginning of the end for DW.

If the PITT has stuck with Wanny ( he did have his ups and downs) we'd be further ahead at this point in time.
Narduzzi is the man now and he'll eventually get the plane off the ground.
I just hope he doesn't run out of runway?

Go PITT & CSU Rams!

I don't think so. At the end his program was not getting better. His recruiting was overrated and getting worse. His teams were getting more and more undisciplined on and off the field. Our program was exposed as a national disgrace in an SI article as having had the most criminals. Academics had become a disaster. Going 6-6 every year is one thing. Embarrassing the school weekly on the local news is another. He was a decent coach at best who was a horrific CEO of a program.

Wanny needed better assistants.
Narduzzi has had his share of off the field issues with his teams.
These days this is "the new normal" given the discipline that a coach and U is allowed to deploy.

Wanny needed more than that. It started at the top. Sure, his assistants were fist fighting during the halftime of the WVU game his last year but the entire team was a zoo. Academics was horrific and Narduzzi has had nothing remotely similar to Wanny's weekly police blotter. Wanny's lowlife recruits created a racial tension that took down multiple programs. He needed to go and probably should have been fire for cause the previous year but Pitt put wins above all else. Wanny's program was cratering when he got canned.
