I stayed the whole game watched every single play. One thing i noticed was how much potential Nick Patti has to be a future NFL starter. In his FIRST CAREER START he had 271 Yards and 2 touchdowns. He reminds me of a mix of Palko and Russel Wilson. I have seen no Pitt qb in my life play as well in their first game as Patti did. We should be thankful knowing if kenny ever goes down or leaves we have a even better qb backing him up. I see this a Tom Brady type Situation imo. Like i could be wrong but he has so much upside it is really unbelievable. And as always #H2P #TTG and turn on those great lights!!!!

Honestly I thought he was better than Jesus Christ. I just worry romans will kill him before he delivers us to the promise land

So many dropped balls. He certainly has the arm and legs to make it in college football

In his 2nd career start ( and 1st in two years) last week the QB for Penn threw for 193 yards and 3 td’s on the road against this same Delaware defense.

I’m happy to get the win, and Patti played passable, but let’s not get carried away. Pickett is coming off back to back very good games, if he’s not available in the upcoming weeks this team is in trouble.

You could be wrong. He could be an average college QB, imo.

There's plenty there to work with but he doesn't have anything close to NFL arm strength at this point.

I’m in the minority I guess, but I think Pitt wins rather easily with Pickett playing today. He was finally showing some consistency and his ability to run the ball would’ve opened things up more down the field.

Glad to see Pitt has a backup that can contribute, but Patti needs a lot of work before he can be considered a starting QB at the ACC level.

I liked Patti's poise and pocket presence. He was calm in the pocket.

Probably, could have ran for some plays but that wasn't a big deal for me.

I liked his bravado early, but then later on he started staring down receivers and holding on to the ball too long.

He wasn't getting much help from the WRs either.

Totally agree on the lack of arm strength. Coaching staff didnt give him a chance the last two series. We went way to conservative - This is a big hole in Narduzzi’s coaching Philosophy. He shows no confidence in his offense.

Clark Kent couldn’t have done a better job if his receivers were Ghandi and Jesus...

Narduzzi did exactly what was needed the last two series. Pound the ball with Sibley. Wind time off the clock. Play field position and let our stellar defense shut them down. Why would you let Patti air it out the last 2 possessions? Makes zero sense

Once again it’s hard for most people to have a nuanced opinion - lol

A lot of posters are saying he sucked - this guy thinks he is Tom Brady in waiting.

The truth lies somewhere in the middle. I *directionally* agree that it was a very good performance. The turnovers, penalties, and drives cut short made the Final result less impressive. But overall, I love what I saw especially if this is our backup the next 2 years

I am not saying that they have air it out but at least let him try to get a first down with a short throw on second or third down. We had no chance running against an 11 man line. This wasn’t a good team that we were playing. If that’s the best that we can do, it’s a pretty bad statement on our program.

By no stretches of the imagination does he suck. He played well for his first start. All of that said- he doesn't look anything like a NFL QB but he's a huge upgrade over recent Pitt backups.

Patti is too immobile. He is more accurate than Pickett but his immobility and throwing into coverage makes him a worse option than Pickett

Wasn’t his TD last week thrown on the run? He seems like he has some wheels and can also make some throws when he starts out if the pocket. I didn’t get the impression at all that he was immobile

I agree, but I also think a big issue today was that his play caller didn't do him any favors. When the defense is only rushing three guys and playing an eight man zone on most plays at some point you have to start running patterns further than 10 or 12 yards down field. On most passing plays we just allowed them to squeeze the game down into such a small space that it would have been hard for any quarterback to have had great success.

I've been generally a fan of Whipple's game calling this year, but man, today he did not have a good day. At all.

I don’t get the impression that he is that mobile i.e. able to avoid the rush. He definitely isn’t as quick as Pickett

I can’t disagree with this. With Mack and Ffrench on the outside you would think Pitt would’ve had a huge advantage down the field, but they didn’t really try and exploit that edge much.

And yet we did run, we did wind time off the clock and we did take advantage of the field position and strong defense to shut down the game at the end.

So let's be clear - you are complaining over an approach that worked perfectly because in your infinite wisdom or lack thereof you wanted to let a freshman QB in his first start throw the ball instead of winding clock. Amazingly idiotic

You are right. Analytics probably say you chances were better making them drive 80 yards or more than risking a turnover.

The thing is, one freak play by their offense beats you.

I personally would have some faith in my QB to move the sticks.

To put in perspective, while not his first start 0-4 Rhode Island's QB was 30-48 for 430 yards and 3 TD against Delaware.

As i mentioned on @Chris Dokish twitter feed, its not so much what Patti has done, it is the way he handled himself on the field. He was very comfortable in the pocket and has the characteristics of a leader.

Patti threw one bad interception and could have had another too. He had several passes dropped, important passes.

It is my belief that if they would have let him continue to throw the ball downfield ( instead of going exclusively to bubble screens and runs), he may have thrown another interception, but we would have score more points and achieved greater separation.

As it was, they didn't trust him after the interception until they had no choice on 3rd and long. He came through. He came threw pretty well on the winning TD pass as well.

Patti looked ok, but we need to emphasize this is Delaware. I think if he played the rest of the year we would have trouble winning 5 games given our inability to run the ball against solid competition.

I also think his arm strength is questionable....throws to the sideline took a LONG time to get to the receivers and that will burn you eventually.

In a game against an opponent like Delaware, how does a guy like Ffrench catch nine passes but only for a total of 57 yards? Did we throw him a ball when he was more than about three yards off the line of scrimmage all game? That was insane.

Are our remaining 7 games against solid competition? I think virtually all of the remaining games are against teams that we match up somewhat evenly with, right?

I'm sorry but what are you watching? Is this a sarcastic post? Tyler Palko and RUSSEL WILSON...God just laughed out loud at you.

Just to remind everyone, we are a Power 5 ACC school. This isn't James Madison or Duquesne. Think about the QBs Syracuse, Duke, Clemson, and UNC have had. That is the standard.

FFS, this kid has no arm strength and average athleticism. He may be a good player, as some players like him develop but he's more Ben Dinucci and Trey Anderson then Tyler Palko and [spits up drink laughing again] Russel Wilson.

I agree that Patti did show an ability to step up with late notice and delivered, for the most part part. I think he has some intangibles that could possibly get him to the NFL, but I'm not sure. It's definitely nice to know we have some depth at the QB position again.

They should stop serving alcohol at the stadium. There is some real Shallow Hal stuff going on in this thread. NFL after looking pedestrian against Delaware LOL.
