Virginia Tech Game & Other Dribbles ...

Because according to you they have so much a better coach than Pitt !
You’re confusing what @Sean Miller Fan said and what I said. I said they have a better STAFF, which isn’t debatable. People will actually try to hire Webster and Frazier this off-season. There’s no market for any of our assistants other than Brown, who everyone here mistakenly thinks is weak.

IMO they are also different types of coaches. Young is more of the Jamie mold where he’s going to squeeze everything out of a group but won’t recruit as well, whereas Capel’s MO is landing better players and just giving them a template of how to win and letting them figure it out on the go while trying to push the right buttons.

I am sure this had to be said somewhere, but that had to be X's best game as a Panther, by far. Offense, defense, leadership. He did it all. we needed all of it to win the game. on the other hand, the center from Va Tech played like a solid NBA player. wow. where is he in the mock NBA drafts ? We need maximum intensity and team play for 40 minutes to beat anybody. If we get that, and the team is healthy, I think we can be competitive with anyone in the ACC. Maybe getting punched in the face by Notre Dame woke them up. to beat Virginia, we need one of the big 3 to have a massive game and for everyone else to be at least decent. as someone mentioned earlier, I also stayed off the board after the ND loss as it was too depressing. I need my sleep !

I wouldn’t put Pitt’s chances of making the NCCA Tournament completely impossible at this point but the only way I think they seriously get back into the conversation is if they win at Virginia Saturday then at Louisville next week. If they pull both of those games out then yes we are back on the bubble talk. It’s asking a lot though expecting this team to win both of those games.

Nobody in the ACC is really that talented on paper. We already beat Duke who on paper has some of the best talent. UNC has good talent on paper but the guards have stunk.

UVA doesn’t have the pros that they had in their champ year. Louisville is watered down. Syracuse too.

If Pitt just had a replacement level big they’d be in the top quarter of the conference.

Top 3-4 PG, one of the best players in Champ, Toney who’s one of the better defenders in ACC and a solid complementary piece in Horton.

Just absolutely nothung from the 5. Nothing

Xavier is a top #2-#3 PG in the ACC when he's playing well, but he's around #12-#13 when he's not.

I think we would all be thrilled if he settled in around #6 game in and game out.

That’s fair, but as the #1 X defender on this board, I still think when evaluating him you have to remember he is the ONLY consistent creator on this team. As we saw the other night, if you keep Champ off the boards, he fades for stretches. And Toney fades for stretches of the seasons. And we have mid-majors playing the 5...

It’s just hard because X feels so much responsibility to will this team to wins.. and he has MOST of the ability to do it... he just can’t shoot consistently. Which puts him into a predicament because in games when we’re lost offensively, he wants to score to help the team win, but that often requires getting to the rim for him which gets him in bad spots.

I’d just love to see him play on a team where he could just play within the flow of the game and pick his spots. Because there aren’t really any defenders in the country who stay in front of him and if the defense had to spread out and worry about a dump off to say, Bacot... I think he’d be really, really good. And even as I say that, he’s still averaging 7 assists a game.

Champagnie was constantly doubled down low by VA Tech and that left open opportunities for XJ to take advantage and he was able to do so.

I agree on the lack of a quality post player center problem being our most significant problem. If we had a quality post who was a real offensive threat inside Champagnie would not get doubled down low.

Hypothetically, if we beat UVa, we're right back on that Last 4 In/First 4 Out line so we'd have a legit chance if the tournament was picked Sunday.

Yep, what I've been saying. If he was #6 all the time as in consistently above average, we have a chance to win every game. Its great when he's spectacular like vs VT but we dont need that all the time. If he can just be good all the time instead of having such poor games, that would be awesome. He has so much talent. This team simply cannot win if he doesn't play well.

IMO, Win one of these next three road games and they are very much in the thick of the bubble. Finishing a game or two over .500 in the league will be very much in contention for a bid going into the ACCT.
