They are talking about team defense. The notion that an elite shooter is going to give up 20 every night guarding the other team's worst perimeter player is absurd. A good team, a well coached team, a team that plays great help defense can help minimize a single player's defensive deficiency.

You simply have to be able to shoot the ball. If your team cant shoot, you have no chance.

Exactly but you said, "nobody plays defense anymore", which is patently false. Weather it's individual or team d, these successful teams do play d and they do it well. And they also have guys that can shoot.

Team defense is composed of all of the players individually playing defense. If nobody plays defense, how can they play good team defense?

I was being sarcastic. However if a team played good team defense and their rotations and help was always there, that can cover for an elite shooter so the other team's worst perimeter player doesn't go off for 30.

A lot of you people worry far too much about the other team's 3rd guard just going crazy on us because we have some elite shooter guarding him. You have to be able to make shots. I dont see Femi or Burton exactly locking anyone down.
