That program is dead.

Horrible talent on the roster right now. Waited too long to fire the old coach, which just puts the new one in an even deeper hole.

Okay talent in the state, but they aren’t going to lock it down.

And hired a supposed elite recruiter but he doesn’t have a single 4* commit for a team that desperately needs a ton of 4*.

I‘m not sure how they dig out of it.

I can't decide how good they "should" be. Local recruiting area is okay, but there's no reason they can't recruit many of the same areas we do (plus NC, etc.).

Campus is nice. Blacksburg isn't exactly fantastic as a whole, but neither are many of the surrounding cities that host winning college football programs.

Fan support is really solid. Pretty sure the stadium seats 60-something, and they're still getting good crowds to show up.

I would think they should have an easier path to winning than we do. I guess it's all about getting the right coaching staff in place.

Ironically Pitt had a good bit to do with their current “forlorn” state. In the oughts, when they were in their best period of perennial top 10 appearances, Pitt was frequently a thorn in their side. We either started or continued a descent in the polls for them multiple times with upset wins. As we know all too well from the early 80s, a program like theirs (and ours) need to capitalize on those 15 minutes of fame. When you squander it, it’s a long road down and difficult to get back up.

Their new coach sucks. He butchered that game. I forgot they even had a new coach, went to watch the game at my VT alum house (gorgeous mansion) and it was a funeral mood that second half. I almost feel sorry, it looks like Pitt circa mid-late 90s

The Big East years were statistical outliers for them.

They were never a national program before The Big East, and they’ve fallen back to their “norm”.

They won their first bowl game in 1986, the year before Frank Beamer took over.

Their Big East success bled over to the ACC, but ended when Beamer retired.

feel like Pitt is PRIMED to take their spot as a flagship ACC program. we can be close to what they were in the 00s. fill that void

Agree, which is why I don't really liken them to Nebraska. That said, their run was a solid 17 years. So they were kind of like a more sustained version of Pitt basketball under Howland/Dixon.

The problem is they aren’t going to be content with 8-4 type seasons and the occasional conference title if they get a special QB and the powers are down.

They built a trophy case to house their NC trophies. They really do think they can be a blue blood. And there’s just not a path to that for them.

And the major problem they have even getting back to a reasonable expectation level is they are in such a hole because they kept Fuente and his horrible recruiting so long. He’s burned bridges across the state.

So it’s a team that desperately needs a major talent infusion. But are in a state that doesn’t really have that kind of talent, and they are on the outs with what talent it does have. And they aren’t going to FL or GA and stealing 4* recruits.

I legit don’t know how they turn it around at this point. There’s not enough talent on the team to win enough to show proof of process to recruits. And they aren’t in a position to add a huge talent influx. It’s a bad spot.

You can tell Pry spent a decade coaching with Franklin based on some of his game management decisions.
