Walker off the board?

Carr is a pretty good combo guard who would be the first guard off the bench on a quality team. He might be a starter by his Jr or Sr year for that team.

Bingo. He's a bench player on a good Pitt team and starter later in career. Like a Keith Benjamin. But I think Carr could have been significantly better

Because he was a freshman playing for a bad coach. Even Dixon used to say it took time for players to play D at this level. Carr is a good player. You people are out of your minds
He could be a good player. However, to expect him to ever average 14+ points you are out of your mind.

What? Do you realize he was a freshman? Its like most of you don't realize freshmen improve

10 day debate on a point guard that is gone, and we currently have 3 new point guards.
Putting the fan in fanatical.

Absolutely. I realize that he was a Freshman, but that he was still an athletically challenged G who isn't a good shooter and couldn't finish at the rim. You are saying to expect him to end up a top 10-20 scorer in the B1G. That is unbelievably unrealistic.

Erratic player--shot 1 for 21 in the game before the Ohio State game. But, why should we care whether he is good or bad--he is no longer relevant to Pitt.

Yes he’s a good player, Stewart is average and 2 kids from top 20 butler were committed to us. Big deal. We’d still have Kevin Stallings.

I’m probably the only person on this board who’s hard on coach Capel (I must hate him, they say!) but imagine if we still had Kevin effing stallings.

Carr and Stewart are both ACC-level players. I said I will be proven right again on Stewart when he transfers to a major D1 school when his dad is fired. As if breaking a Pitt record, signing an LOI with Ole Miss and being offered by KST wasn't proof enough.

Stewart may be an ACc level shooter. He’s not an ACC level player.

Any good coach will take a good shooter, especially with Stewart's size and find a way to use him.

Any good coach? Well. let's look at the two coaches who took him already.
1. Stallings. 2. His father (who you in an above post said was going to be fired).
Once again SMF, you never fail to disappoint.

Ha, ha. Yeah he has a role. But he’s such a liability defensively in the ACC it’s insane. Especially at the 2 position.

He’s not any more of a +/- than Murphy.

When Stewart plays, it's 5 on 4 basketball when he's on defense. No thanks.

But regardless, he'll be doing something much more important than shooting a basketball when he graduates. His future is definitely not in basketball. And there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. In fact, it's admirable.

C'mon, that's not even close to accurate, and it's wildly devoid of context. Kid was 1-for-10 vs. Iowa in the game before Ohio State (not 1-for-21), his worst shooting performance of the year. In his last three games, vs. Clemson, Iowa, and Ohio State, his team is 2-1, and he has shot 21-43 from the field and 5-17 from 3 (0-for-4 vs. Iowa), putting up a total of 61 points. He dished out 23 assists in those three games and grabbed 13 rebounds, while only turning it over 8 times (nearly 3-to-1 assist-to-TO ratio, which is elite). He also played 36, 39, and 38 minutes, respectively.

All this after not playing a game for nearly 18 months. It takes a while to find a rhythm after that kind of layoff, and Carr seems to be finding himself and his confidence as the season progresses.

He is averaging 15.5, 7, and 5.5. With just 2.7 TOs per game, he's got an assist-to-TO ratio of 2.48, and their schedule so far has included:
  • Oklahoma
  • Butler
  • Utah
  • DePaul
  • Clemson
  • Iowa
  • Ohio State
Those are big-time numbers against big-time competition. (For comparison, X is averaging 11.9 ppg, 4.7 assists, and 4.1 rebounds, along with 3.8 TOs (an assist-to-TO ratio of just 1.24). Their FG shooting percentages are nearly identical, but Marcus has taken 30% more shots overall and nearly twice as many 3s) against a considerably weaker slate of opponents.

And while we're at it, this absurd notion that Parker Stewart isn't an ACC-level player is Pitt fans at their absolute delusion finest. Kid is averaging 17+ ppg, shooting 45% from the field and 40%+ from 3. Again. He put up 22 vs. a very good University of Northern Iowa squad, 21 the other night against UNC Asheville, and 18 tonight against a long, athletic Baylor squad ranked 10th in the country (shooting 5-for-12 from 3). And he's doing this as a sophomore when he's his team's #1 or #2 option, and the opponents focus night in and night out is to take him away. He's also averaging 4 boards and 3 assists.

Scott Drew leveraged Brady Heslip for years as a knock-down 3-point shooter at Baylor. Guys like Kyle Korver, Doug McDermott, JJ Redick, Adam Morrison and dozens of other guys who could absolute stroke the ball didn't defend particularly well (some were downright awful) ... If he wants to (he's a mercurial dude), Parker almost certainly will earn a pro contract to play overseas, just as JWF has. Parker is a better shooter right now (than JWF), he's longer, his game attacking the rim is still developing, and the foreign game doesn't demand the athleticism that the NBA does.

Both Carr and Stewart would be starting on this year's team if they were here. Would Capel need to hide Stewart occasionally on D? Sure. Would Parker be on the floor down 5, needing a full-court press late in the game? Maybe not. But I'll tell you this, if those two guys were here, we'd be scoring a helluva lot more than 19 points in a half vs. Monmouth and wouldn't need to leverage our defense so often to rally late in games against piss-poor teams.

It’s a stupid argument since neither is on our team .

I didn't start the argument or even raise this. But if people are going to disparage former players and write nonsense like "erratic player" and "1-21 in the last game," then I'm going to correct it.

You're entitled to your opinions but not your facts.

He's had five games where he's made either 0 or 1 threes, zero games where he's made 2 or 3 threes, and five games where he's made 4 or more threes. Isn't that kind of the definition of "erratic".

FWIW--the 1-21 was out of the month of a tv broadcaster during the Ohio State game. But again, who really cares what he does since he is Pitt ancient history.

If they were both here, Stewart starts over Murphy and Carr potentially startd over McGowens but I wouldn't say that's definite. McGowens is a good defender and can be very good offensively when he's on. Right now, I would say McGowens is the better player but he'd have a shorter leash when he starts turning it over as would Johnson as you could slide Carr in at PG.
