Watching the Commodores on TBS -

Wow. Vandy deserves to lose. Brain fart foul when UP one point. And then a really dumb, selfish 3 down 1 at the end.

Also was dumb by the Northwestern player not to intentionally miss that second foul shot. Any shot Vandy hit at the buzzer was going to be a three, going up by 2 at that point was meaningless.

the great Bryce Drew didn't have a time out since the 7 minute mark. Was not able to organize his team or communicate to them in the final seconds. What a smart, upcoming coach, with 15 losses to boot. Well, at least he danced.

Clutch free throws by that northwestern kid. I believe he made his last 6 and he was about 55%.

Oh, please. It's his first year and he got them in. Did a solid job managing and motivating dudes that weren't his recruits. Now, we'll see if he can build a squad there. His team showed fight and a player made a monumental mental error.

Neither team looked all that great to be honest. Wholly expect the Zags to rout Northwestern. But, both deserved to dance and the Wildcats dance on...

Sounds like Stallings, only his kids didn't listen. If this was Pitt, coach would be crucified, wait, I think this happened once against Villanova.

You mean Butler, no?

Okay. I think Stallings can potentially build something here but let's not forget the sane team season with lottery pick and an additional first rounder lost a play in game 70 to 50. Admittedly, on that squad, though recruited by him, Jones and Baldwin didn't listen much either.

Yep, was thinking the same thing. Drew lost two first round picks and basically duplicated what stallings did last year, if not improved slightly.

He's been very, very good at Vandy (2002 to 2012). Let's hope he recaptures that here. His last four years there and his first here indisputably left a lot to be desired.

He's here now. He's loading up his own team. Let's see what he can do.

Actually KS had a better record last year, both SEC and overall than Drew did this year if only by a game. If our two seniors did not get themselves suspended we would have been the 15 loss team in there due to strength of schedule.

You serious?

He's a good coach, gonna probabaly build a decent program there. But I can't give him credit for taking a team to the tournament when they had no business being in the conversation. It was an absolute gift they got in, and they got a freaking 9 seed, no play-in game. Even with a weak bubble this year it's laughable they were actually selected. A 15 loss team from the SEC, that is complete nonsense.

I don't disagree here. But, they got in. SEC, outside UK and FLA, is a tepid league. I think it averages something like 4 bids out of 14 a year.

I think Vandy stayed about the same year to year... Slightly better last season. But, again, A LOT was expected of them last year. Nationally and local to that program, folks thought they underachieved. Two players had their sights set on the NBA and responded a la Young and Artis to Stallings. It happens. Again, they had the same team last season + a lottery pick SG and an additional first rounder at C. That's why he was likely to be out of a job there or, at minimum, a scorching hot seat. Vandy faithful posting here and Tennessee news outlets have clarified that.

Again, that doesn't mean he can't be reborn here at Pitt and create something special eventually. But, that's what happened at Vandy. And, in the seasons before that, he had a losing record, a .500 record an NIT record... And then, with a loaded roster a last four in. Zero 20 win regular seasons, that includes the SECT. Not unlike Dixon here, he'd grown very stale there in his last four seasons. But, that doesn't mean he can't rekindle what he did during his best years there here at Pitt. That's the hope.

I think he may have tried to miss by the way he reacted and looked over to the bench. I'm wondering if guys should try to miss (but still hit the rim) more often - seems to guarantee a make!!

Stallings left Drew with more than Dixon left him.

I think drew is just a better coach than stallings.

Of course. But Vandy did have better players than us.......and that's AFTER losing 2 NBA 1st Rounders early.......and that's also considering he was selling an SEC program. There's no reason Stallings should have had better players at Vandy than Dixon at Pitt.

I'm sorry, I watched vandy today, and while it was one game, in no way did I come away with the impression their players were better than pitt's players.

Stallings is a good recruiter. He may succeed at Pitt, he may not, but if not I doubt that recruiting will prove to be the problem.

How do you know it was all the players and not coaching?
