We have now gone a couple weeks without an on-campus stadium thread

The football program is now good enough to warrant them tearing down the Pete and resurrecting old Pitt Stadium, minus the wooden bleachers and troughs. Bring on the bulldozers!!!

I'm sure the basketball season will give plenty of opportunity for stadium posts.

Here's another question to ponder. The infamous @SoufOaklin4Life stops posting... And Pitt has it's best season in 35+ years. Coincidence?
Please no more new stadium talk at least until the end of the year.....please?

I actually posted earlier in the year that they should contemplate tearing down the Pete and rebuilding Pitt Stadium in its original spot but for only 50k and rebuild the Pete at 8k connected to stadium! Win win for all involved.

If Kenny plays...well, a new stadium is sure to follow...

That's how important this issue is.

OC lot. It’s a few years down the road and a lot can change, but I think that’s the way things are going

It would seem to be a little foolish for them to have torn down two of the fraternity houses next to the OC lot so they can start building something else if the plan is to put a stadium there in a few years.

In 10 years, the Pete will be 30. Still young for a college basketball arena but honestly its too big. College basketball attendance keeps dwindling across the country. Even during Dixon II, the place was only half full and we were a very respectable "bubble program" with 3 NCAA bids in 5 years.
We're never going to fill it consistently unless we become a consistent Top 10 program again.

Texas just built an 8500 seat basketball arena. They wanted a more intimate setting compared to the NBA-sizes Erwin Center. I think eventually, the best move would be to tear down the Pete and build a 45K seat football stadium with a 8500 seat basketball arena connected to it. Suites in the endzone can connect to suites in the arena.

Nothing else is going there. A pipe is running thru there. That’s why they tore down the frat houses

Build the PNC Park of college football. A smaller, right sized stadium with a great view of the Cathedral.

Then every other year Pitt can play in a kickoff classic type of game at 'neutral' site Heinz Field against ND, Penn State, WVU, etc.

So, you’re saying they should tarp the Pete, too?

Actually they kind of already have. They put curtains up that close off the upper level when they put them down. They do it for the women's games, although I believe the original intention was for when they have concerts there with acts that won't sell enough tickets to need the full building.

They tore down two fraternity houses to put in a chiller plant pipe? That seems odd. Just out of curiosity, did they move those fraternities someplace else or did they close down or ?
Closed down.

if you notice, all the “victory heights” facilities are now on the Pete lawn. It’s not a done deal but that’s not an a coincidence.

Please tell SMF and the rest of the tarping crowd; maybe that will put a mark in the box they need to be checked.

Basically. If they're going to stay in the Pete, they should only use the lower level and curtain off the upper deck. Even if we get good again, its too big and we'd only need the upper deck for 1-2 games per year.

Exactly why you downsize both and give them both room to fit into that large space! But the point is having an on campus stadium without going the same route Syracuse did. They would be connected by separate buildings

No way.

There's no need to tarp the Pete, and ripping it down is out-of-the-question -- unless you hit the Powerball Lottery and gift your entire winnings to the Athletic Department.

A much cheaper solution? Hire a proven winner to coach the team, and watch the basketball magic re-appear.

Goddamn I don’t know how many times I have to explain this. YOU PLAY EVERY GAME IN THE NEW SMALLER STADIUM. Supply and demand. Why do i have to buy season tickets if ND PEDO ST. And WVU will be at Heinz.

Right. It would be around 45ish which is plenty big enough to host "big games."

Huh? Pitt hasn't funded hardly any of it. They are literally taking out loans (ie bonds) and robbing the general university fund
You’re right. My bad.

2. Where will the money come from?
Chancellor Gallagher said the University will pay for the $250 million in building projects through debt financing, and simultaneously be raising money through donations to offset the cost.

Lyke said 10 member of the Champions Advisory Board — a group of 21 alumni, corporate stakeholders, Pitt parents, philanthropists, former student-athletes and thought leaders formed by the athletic director in 2018 to advise the department — had already given six and seven figures donations.

At a news conference after the announcement, Lyke said they are just getting started on fundraising, but the project is not contingent on a certain percentage being raised.

“In the face of failed past promises to do this, it was an important step to make this commitment,” Gallagher said. “That being said, we pay back debts. … If the fundraising isn’t there, that’s kind of a tax on our future. … We actually think the donor base and fan base of the University of Pittsburgh are going to be really excited about this.”

New chiller plant pipe runs thru there

I thought the new lacrosse field is going there. That is what is on the Victory Heights blue prints.

Edit: The OC lot. Not the franternity house site.

Because those wouldn't be home and home games. They would be 'neutral' site games that Pitt fans can attend. So an additional home-like game.

The problem with the Pete is it's a terrible design for a space constrained university. Way too much wasted space, it's like they tried to use up as much as the football stadium footprint as possible.
