We need St. Peters coach

I was rooting for St. Peter’s and I’m happy they won, but you have no clue what you are talking about in regards to basketball. Jaden Ivey is going to be a Top 5 pick in the NBA and not 1 player on the St. Peter’s roster will get a sniff. But you are right. You know more than everyone else associated with the NBA. You are a f’in basketball savant.

You are hung up on 1 (or 3 players). 16 or so other players played. The "NBA guy" played terrible against this defense.

Purdue was the bigger team which lead to a massive rebounding edge. That's pretty much their advantage. They are not an athletic team and they got exposed because of it.

What makes anyone think Ivey will start going by these guys after not being able to do so all night?

St. Peter's would be below .500 in the Big Ten. They are tough to play against because they do things the other teams don't do. It's not the easiest thing to strategize against in only a few days. Even with having the worst game plan of all time, Purdue still could have beat them.

I'm pulling for them, but let's keep this in the realm of sanity. They play hard as hell, and their guards are fast. It's a collective effort, but they're certainly the least talented team remaining.

Agreed. UNC should win this game because they are bigger, athletic and more talented.

I watched a lot of the game, but did not pay close attention. Why was Edey on the bench for the last 5-10 minutes of the game?

Lol. I’d rather get John Wooden or Adolph Rupp. Either one would be just as likely.
You would know better than me, but at the time Capel was hired I didn’t see Musselman as someone that was absolutely unattainable for Pitt. Guy is somewhat of a vagabond, coming to the east coast wouldn’t have been a big deal to him.

Maybe it was a pipe dream at the time, but I had seen him as an absolute can’t miss option that was also relatively affordable. Had he been lured to Pitt I’m not saying we would’ve gone to back to back Elite Eight’s like Arkansas, but I can almost guarantee they would be in the tournament every year.

Musselman had the same interest in Pitt as Gisele Bunchen does in me

Coach's decision. He was a minus 9 in 17 minutes of play.

The coaching qualities that Musselman and Holloway have are the same ones our next head coach needs to have. We need good, tough, basketball players with a high basketball IQ that were overlooked. Chasing elite players is a waste of time and energy at this point.
Obviously he’s had SOME success doing it, but what have these spoiled, elite guards who just want to get to the NBA done for Cal the last decade

He's fantastic. Should have fouled at the end, though.
Holloway has one hit wonder written all over him. He’s .500 in 4 years as a HC. He also comes across as a pretty weird dude. Hard to picture that personality at a major program. I’d want to see something more than a one time tournament run before writing the big check. That said, if there’s any P6 program he’d be a fit for, it’s The Hall. And at the end of the day, what do they have to lose?

Well, going back to 2011-2012, it’s gotten Cal an NCAA title, a final four, and two elite eights. That’s disappointing for Kentucky but otherwise pretty darn good.

There is another reason they were not as active down the stretch. They had to chase around the Peacocks on defense all night long. St Petes runs the most and effective motion I have seen in a long time.
Totally agree. If you watch Edert, the white kid who can shoot, he never stops moving on offense. He is perpetual motion cutting backdoor, or popping off screens for open shots. He can only play 5-10 mins at a time because he never stops. The rest of the guys are very active as well. I just love their guards, especially Banks. It's funny, I think about Pitt's offense and you just wonder where is the player movement???

St. Peter’s lost twice to Siena this year, and also lost to St. Francis (NY), Stony Brook, Canisius, and Rider. They also got blown out by St. John’s.

Watched this game wire to wire St Peters players never stopped running. Then I watched the two blue bloods UNC & UCLA go at it. 40 minutes of one guy handling the ball with one guy guarding and 8 guys standing around in the corners watching. Better talent? Yeah, no doubt. Better basketball? Uh, no way.

Agreed. UNC should win this game because they are bigger, athletic and more talented.
The last three teams St Petes beat meet that same description. Hell in the regular season they’d have been double digit dogs to Pitt.

They are having a great run and are playing incredibly hard. They are not afraid of anybody. But the bubble always bursts at some point for these small overachievers in the tournament, they can only run on adrenaline and confidence for so long. Eventually the shots don’t fall and the talent differential shows itself. I think St Pete’s ride stops and stops hard with Carolina.

As sad as this is to say, that is almost certainly not true, even if the game was at the Pete.

To kind of prove the point, St Peter's played at St John's this year, just like we did. They were a 13-1/2 point underdog, we were an 11 point underdog. Monmouth also played both on the road. Monmouth was favored over us by 1-1/2, they were favored over St. Peter's by 5.
