We stand on guard for thee

That would be good news for next year for sure. Not sure how long hed stay but with the defense improving, Pitt would be a legit contender again for the coastal

Took me a minute to figure it out...but great news if true.

We just had a panel interview for a position at work this week. 1 candidate clearly separated himself. He was our recomendation to the svp, but out big concern was, he's over qualified and will be a year or so and out. The SVP's response was....so what. Make the most of it and see if he can help prepare someone within the team to step up after he goes. Pitt should follow this advice.

I am hearing this is going to happen.

When? Soon?

Because IMO the longer it goes the feeling I have is the less likely for MC to be the guy. Tells me he’s looking for something else.

Hes been waiting on the NIU job but they apparently are going in another direction. I do think he needs to stay as an OC at one place for 2-3 years. I think his job hopping and getting canned at LSU has hurt him

I know Canada is competent. I also know the talent he had here is leaps and bounds better than the craptastic hand he is dealt now.

He will be gone at the first chance of a better gig, leaving the development of our QBs to yet ANOTHER OC.

Give me someone who is capable, hungry and will stay for a few years.

Plus, has a "return hire" ever worked out in CFB?

If he leaves so what. The schedule next year with an improved offense could see 10 wins. (Full disclosure I say we should be at 10 wins every year.)

Well, I’d be willing to chance it. Especially if he is as imaginative as he was the first go-round.

Honestly - this would make me exceedingly happy and hopeful.

You may well be right but........

1. With Canada......the QB position will have to be earned.....I think theres good competition coming in and with Patti.

2. I dont think the WR's are as bad as they showed. I think theres some talent there to work with. Along with the WR coach being fired I expect to see improvement.

3. They have some RBs to work with.

I just dont think the talent is as bad as it showed under Watson.

I also dont think Canada is a serious candidate for a HC gig. If he was turned down by NIU where is he going to go? I have to think Pitt will pay him enough not to go for another OC gig so I think he'll be here at least two years. I guess time will tell

If you crave to be a HC, but get to have complete freedom with the offense as the OC at a P5, isn’t that pretty darn professionally fulfilling?

I can only think of one of the top of my head. Bill Snyder.

Must say since the first game w Farmers College of PA not remembering the shuttle pass and jet sweep run in the NFL well at least rarely. ....

Now it’s common practice.

But this is Pitt not expecting him to be here, or do a one and done.

Well,

Johnny majors of course,

And Utah state just hired back gary Anderson.

Full disclosure.....I dont know the first thing about Utah State other than the worlds biggest jagov came to Pitt as AD from there

I meant one that actually could’ve been considered a success. Snyder certainly was.

Gary Andersen is a good one. Chris Ault at Nevada (who came back twice) I forgot about, he definitely qualifies.

If SMF is reading, no Lorenzo Romar doesn’t count.

Wouldn’t you have to believe that IF Canada was in talks with HCPN to return, that Narduzzi would be looking for some way to get a guarantee of at least 2 years out of Canada? And yeahyeah- I know - there isn’t a contract which can’t be broken, but there’s “easy” to break and there’s that will take a couple of years to break. And as pointed out earlier in this thread, there may be a feeling by other institutions that Canada has to prove some loyalty/longevity before he further ascends the coaching ladder.

We should hire Canada back, with certain provisions in his contract.
A huge buyout if he leaves for another OC job, but not if he takes a HC job.
That should satisfy him and give us some protection.

Also saw a Tweet that he turned down the Indiana OC job. So he’s evidently still looking

Wasnt Patridge a rehire? His return has been producing some pretty positive returns in my opinion.
If Canada is the guy, I think we can expect drastic improvements from the offense. He will game plan around our strengths instead of the stubborn cookie cutter offense of the past 2 seasons.

I do agree with most that there needs to be some assurance of a multi-year commitment.

Yes - good point on Partridge

Then pass and get another talented OC and quit wasting time. This should be a 30 minute meeting. Money, 2 Year Minimum. Oh no? I hear LSU needs you.
The second part of your first sentence is the key one. Who they might end up with instead. Pitt doesn't exactly have a good track record. The best thing in this guy's favor is that he actually produced positive results for us (and not 30 years prior, as with Johnny Majors).

Then hire Eric Kasperowicz and take a chance. Gus Malzan was a hs coach before going to college coaching.

If we don't end up with Canada, almost 100% we will end up some old fart retread buddy of Narduzzi, like Chaney or Watson, who will run his preferred Ground Duz snoozer system. Run - Run - Pickett 3 yard pass - punt. It would be a real surprise to see an aggressive, dynamic guy.

Canada likely is the only chance to avoid seeing what we just saw for the last two years.

Canada or not, I just don't see a reasonable chance of offensive improvement when losing 4 starting oline, two rbs and the fb all while KP is still qb.

Canada 1 inherited the following:

A journeyman game manager in Peterman
193/313 2287 yards 20TDs 8ints 139 Rating 232 yards rushing

Connor at 50-75%

Weah with Zero catches

Henderson with 2 catches

Compared to Canada 2:

Pickett 180/310 58% 1969% 12 TDs 6ints 120 rating 221 yards rushing

4 4* running backs

Carter 202 yards rushing

Ffrench 35 catches for 679

Mack 25 catches for 546

Not to mention the wide variances in the schedules.

Do you realize Chaney went to UGA and Tennessee upped the ante to pay him more than 1 million a year? More like a highly desired OC rather than retread.

He wasn't awful. We need someone who is better than "not awful". Specifically, with something less than Georgia talent.
