2:00 on Tuesday, December 21st. No TV network listed yet so its probably not part of some sort of daylong event. I know I say I like weekday afternoon games because everyone works from home now but not 2:00 since that's during the work/school day.

Pitt also has a boatload of 8PM Tuesday games which I'm assuming is because ACCN has finally listened to me and is doing a 6/8 doubleheader. That's better than 7/9. Yea, 6 is a little early but I think fans prefer 6PM start times to 9.

2pm isn’t a kids day start. Gotta wonder if that’s some sort of typo or something? And if it is 2pm why ACCN wouldn’t carry it

Yea, at first I thought it was a kids field trip day but that's too late in the day for that as the kids would need to be home for 3. I am sure it'll be on TV but some games haven't had the network announced yet. The only thing I can think of is that its some sort of daylong event.

Or maybe they wanted to give the players some extra time for Christmas with families since they likely will have to be back in time for a practice Christmas night for the Dec. 28 game vs ND. But I don't think starting the game at 6 or 7 makes much difference in that regard.

Don't be surprised if the games that don't have television announced for them yet all end up on the ACCN Extra. We don't have any games listed that way yet, which leads me to believe that they just haven't added those to the schedule yet.

It is hilarious that you previously said that you think they should play weekday afternoon games, and yet now that they have a weekday afternoon game on the schedule you say that they shouldn't play a game on a weekday afternoon because that's during the work/school day.

BTW, the women have a noon tip time for a game the day after the men's weekday afternoon game. They usually play a school day game, but would they really do that on December 22? Typically it's one of the first games of the season. December 22 seems too close to Christmas to do that to me, but who knows.

On the other hand, other than that game the women play 10 weeknight home games. 8 of them start at 6:00 and the other two are going to be televised and the game time hasn't been officially set yet, but 6:00 is possible for both of them. It is possible that other than that afternoon game that every weeknight home game that they play will start at 6:00.

I should have been more specific. I like weekday afternoon road games. Or home games which start at 5 or later when fans are allowed to attend. I can't go to a 2PM game. However, my guess is if that game was at 7, attendance would only be 1500. At 2, maybe 500 so Capel probably figured, he'd get them on an early evening flight home for extra time with family since the attendance is going to be awful regardless.

I agree the games without networks will be ACCNX or the Raycom syndicated package to RSNs. Cant imagine a Tuesday 2PM cant make "regular TV" though since there's just game replays on at those times. That game has to get ACCN or the RSNs I would think.

With AT&T Pittsburgh not picking up the ACC package, what sense would it make for a Pitt - Jacksonville game to be syndicated to the RSNs? What RSN's are paying money to pick that game up at 2:00 on a Tuesday afternoon?

If you look at the scheduled television games, it is pretty obvious that they have done Pitt fans something of a solid by not putting ANY Pitt games on the RSNs. The games against The Citadel, UNC Wilmington, UMBC and Jacksonville are going to be ACCN Extra games. All the other games are already accounted for.

Ok, it makes sense that the RSNs wouldn't select that game but it should be on regular ACCN.

Interesting strategy by Raycom/Bally Sports. ATTSN didn't buy the package so, in turn, they rewarded them by not selecting any Pitt games. Usually how this business works is you have to put a certain number of games on the network in dispute so customers get pi$$ed off and complain. I believe ATTSN is the only RSN in the ACC footprint that didn't buy the package so maybe Raycom/Bally Sports just gave up on them and let them go their own way

I think they know that AT&T has no interest in buying the package at any price. My understanding is that AT&T would like to sell off the couple RSNs that they own, and at this point their strategy seems to be that they are spending as little money on programming as possible. At this point here in Pittsburgh they basically only show the Pirates and Penguins and their ancillary programming, and then everything else is all filler.

I don't know why the Pirates and Pens don't just launch their own joint network. Why do they need a middleman to show their games? Many teams have their own RSN

At this point I think it's two reasons. First of all, for years it was kind of "inertia". There was someplace else to show the games and someone else to do the work, so they were fine with that situation. Recently, when it would have made a lot more sense, the two contracts have never been up at anywhere close to the same time, so a combined network would only have one team or the other for several years until the other team's deal expired. And a "just Pirates" or "just Penguins" network maybe wouldn't have brought in enough revenue to make it worthwhile.
