The college basketball coaching carousel has stopped after 55 coaching changes

In hindsight, were there better choices that we should have targeted? Choices that made a move that year.I would imagine many ADs in any sport can look back and wish they’d hired someone else. The old hindsight thing.
And sometimes you can’t get who you have pegged as #1. Most here wanted Hurley and sounds like Heather Lyke did as well. Can’t even get #2 sometimes. Dixon was hardly a prime candidate. Sometimes you get lucky too.
I’ll be honest. I didn’t really even look at the list. I was just speaking generally. And other than any “big names” I wouldn’t have a clue. Even the names being thrown around now I’m not familiar with.In hindsight, were there better choices that we should have targeted? Choices that made a move that year.
I agree. I am in the same boat as you.I’ll be honest. I didn’t really even look at the list. I was just speaking generally. And other than any “big names” I wouldn’t have a clue. Even the names being thrown around now I’m not familiar with.
So I’d be talking straight out of my rear end on some if not most of that list once you get past the names most everyone would know. And some of those big names clearly would have never been a candidate here.
Well as far as Medved. I’ve seen his name on the list of a few ppl this time around. I don’t know his history. But it’s certainly possible he wouldn’t have been a good choice then but is now. A lot of those guys do need to work up the ladder. Same reason so many are a bit leery of Knight, myself included.I agree. I am in the same boat as you.
I was soliciting input from the knowledgeable.
Medved, Ford, Riley, Kermit Davis? More?
There is blame directed at Gallagher and Lyke. Gallagher approved the hiring of Stallings and Capel. Lyke did a shit job hiring Capel. His late season collapses and player dissention/desertions were well know from his time at Oklahoma. She didn't receive the criticism she deserved because everyone was so glad to be rid of Stallings. But the hand-writing on the wall for Capel was there to anyone who can google Capel career.I would imagine many ADs in any sport can look back and wish they’d hired someone else. It’s easy to play armchair QB after the fact. Most people thought Capel was a good hire at the time. Who should she hire to become the next coach? There is blame directed at Gallagher and Lyke. I remember that board freakout.A few people I know connected with Pitt thought Mark Schmidt was the leading candidate until Capel camd out out of nowhere
.
At that time this board would have imploded.
Even Dick Groat seemed pleased with Capel.
