What about an NBA 4 Nations Tournament?

Instead of the All-Star game?

USA
Canada
Europe
World (Africa, Australia, Asia, Latin America)
I like the idea. I'd split Europe up into the Balkans, France, and then the rest of Europe. Play a round robin for seeding and give the top two teams byes. The US would still be heavy favorites because of their depth but this would be very competitive. I think a combined Europe might be favored over the US.

Balkans - Jokic, Doncic, the Bogdonavich's, Zubac, Nurkic, Vucevic, I'm sure I'm missing a couple NBA guys plus high-end European leagues' players and Greece is quasi Balkans so put Giannis in there).

France - Wemby, Batum, Gobert, Sarr, Coulibaly, a few more NBA guys and a few high end Euro Leagues' players

Also why are their so many really good players from the former Yugoslavian countries? The ratio of NBA players to population is crazy high for a collection of countries that are like 99% white compared to white guys from the US. There are like 15M-20M people in the former Yugoslavian countries and there are always a bunch of NBA players from there. Arguably the two best players in the world right now are Jokic (I don't think this one is debatable) and Doncic.

Canada would get crushed.

Where’s the border between Europe and Asia?
Maybe they would but they also may play as a team whereas USA and Europe may not take it as seriously.

The border between Europe and Asia can be determined by the NBA to make the teams as even as possible. For example, players from Turkey, Russia, Israel, Georgia, etc may play for the World team since Europe they would need better players.

For you NBA fans, who would you pick for these teams?

Generally speaking, I think something like this would be kinda fun. It would be interesting how the lines could be drawn to even it up.

Plus, think of someone like Hakeem who was from Nigeria originally I believe, but became a US citizen and played for the 96 US Olympic team.

I've always wanted to see a Ryder Cup of basketball (USA vs. Europe). It would be nice to see how the US would fare against a roster that actually matches their talent level, which has never happened when they send their best players. Maybe call it the Kobe Cup since he was a prevalent international ambassador for the game.

Basketball is really popular in the former Yugoslav countries, almost as popular as soccer. As for why? I dont know that answer. It's like asking why is baseball popular in Venezuela and nowhere else in South America. Or why is hockey popular in Finland and Sweden but not Norway?

Also, for my tournament, I dont think you could have a French team (not enough NBA players) or a Balkans team (some of those countries hate each other). USA, Canada, Europe, and World is fine.

Decent idea but combo teams would not have the same flavor as what hockey has done. Finland, Sweden, Canada and U.S. are playing for the flag on their sweater. A hoops combo tournament just wouldn’t have same passion.

You could do it like Ryder Cup where you have a seven game series of the United States bs Europe.

Yea, I get that but this would be smaller in scale. Also, I do think the Europeans would take great pride in beating the US. The "world" team, maybe not.
