what are the expectations for this season?

Not sure how many games they will win. But Im not one of those who feel like they lost so mamy players the will struggle
Last year people talked about Canada was fire from a bad team and his offenses in the past never did much of anything. There was big complaints about slow linebackers and the terrible d-limen we had. But now they are gone and people act like the cant be replaced.

Its college football. You never know what the players will do. What I do know is that most of us agree that talent of the players signing is a major upgrade over the past. Which leads me to believe that better athletics and talented players mean better performances.

If you are basing it on 1 variable, then it is clearly QB play.
Well, yes and no. Of course QB play is absolutely critical, I'm actually giving our QB the benefit of the doubt. I think he'll be solid. Maybe just a shade below Peterman, but if our defense is the same as last year, it could be very ugly.

Our DL is absolutely decimated. I am not sure our defense will be any better than last year now.

IMO

6-6 = disaster
7-5 = moderately disappointing
8-4 = satisfactory
9-3 = exceeded expectations
10+ = party time

5-7 or worse = disaster
6-7 = disappointing
7-6 = satisfactory
8-5 = good year
9-4 = exceeded expectations
10+ = party time

7 wins this year would be overachieving, and that includes one of those exhibition games they play at the end of the year.

I'm sorry, but 6-6 is never "overachieving" in a coach's 3rd season. Even with these suspensions expectations have to be higher than that. It is HCPN's program and he is accountable for these suspensions and the depth to cover them. 6-6 is not acceptable.

I agree. The expectation for Pitt should be at least 8 wins this year, with a goal of 10 in Narduzzi's third year. But those expectations will not be met this year. If we can somehow squeeze out 7 wins in this season, including an exhibition game, that's about all that can now be expected. With the players we have on this team right now and the uncertainties, a 6 win season is realistic and a 5 win season won't shock me.

I have none. However, I'm sure this season like every other will be sprinkled with WTF loses. Hopefully I'm pleasantly surprised.

Then our HC is not the guy for the job. That is not acceptable.

9-10 wins with the talent at RB, WR, TE, and QB. Our ONLY major defeicit is really in the defensive backfield and Damar Hamlin and Jordan Whithead are All American players. Once any suspensions are over and you figure we can and should go 3-0 during the Whitehead suspensions we could get to 10 wins. Narduzzi needs to win 8+ games at a minimum. Sorry but he has to. That's the progression. If a crap used car salesman with a lowly reputation like Franklin can win 10 games in year 3, CPN needs to and he will.

Going 3-0 to start the season is a tall task, with or without the players suspended. That said, I'm really excited to see the young players in the secondary step up, along with a healthy Hamlin who can be every bit the player whitehead is.

I like Narduzzi but considering the last few years off season mishaps I find that he's no better than Wanny in that department, Wanny recruited better and put more players in the NFL although Narduzzi did well in that department last season, and wins and losses are in the Wanny range???
I say I like Narduzzi and I do but I liked Wanny as well and I see little difference between the two so far!

Although I loved Wanny, Narduzzi has outperformed him thus far. Wanny was 11-12 in his first two years and Duzz is 16-10 while going up against better competition. Also, Wanny didn't get that signature win until the 13-9 game three years in. Duzz already has two of them.

I also don't think you can criticize Narduzzi that much for the suspensions and dismissals. Every coach will have these situations happen, even the ones that run the "tightest ship." All the players (counting Whitehead) that got suspended or dismissed were recruited under Chryst, who had to suspend and dismiss a couple players himself. These things are going to happen, it's just about how the staff treats them. So far, Pat hasn't failed in that category. Maybe they could've given Bookser another game or two, but it is what it is. What concerns me the most is bringing in players such as Kam Carter who have a shaky past. There's a fine line between giving players second chances and taking a stance against that kind of stuff. Can't say I would've done anything differently if I was coach, but you could be opening up a can of worms down the line.

I'm glad you're optimistic like this. We all need more of that. I'm just not seeing 3-0 while the suspensions are in effect. There is a good possibility of being 0-3 when Whitehead returns. We have some talent, but not the kind that can consistently win 10+ games a year.

I do agree that in year 3, it should be an expectation that Narduzzi can at least get to 8 wins. He has already won 8. If he wins less than that, he is regressing. Anything less than that and he has underperformed and some changes need to be made. For me, we MUST win 9 games minimum this year for this program to be considered successful and improving. Anything less and we're going backwards or just treading water.

I remain optimistic despite suspensions. I predict 2-1 to start and 9-3 or 8-4 heading to bowl game which I believe we win this year to finish no worse than 9-4.
