A friend of mine always says that there will never be a level playing field in college athletics. In the NFL, the worst teams pick first and get best players, in college the best teams pick first. Add to this, the $$$$ discrepancy, which affects coaches, and recruiting, and there you have it. The elite teams will dominate the college football landscape, because they get the best coaches, and best talent for the most part.

Your friend is correct.
In addition to what you mentioned the academic and discipline / suspension standards are different for the football and basketball factories. For those of you on the board who are a bit slow that means lower!
Plus due to the $ salary difference for coaching staffs its hard for non Top 10 teams to have stable coaching staffs.
That's why I propose semi pro leagues for football and basketball.
Baseball already has one and it works great!
Just look at Herman leaving Houston after building a great program for around $ 5 mill/yr.
Not sure what he made at Houston but it was prorobably half of that.

Ranking in February matters , not ranking in December.

Last year at this time, Pitt was in the 50s. ended up in 20s.
