After watching the men's basketball team lose a heart-breaker to NC State, I pondered the discrepancy of talent and coaching for our program compared to the ACC. We may, indeed, not win a game in the ACC. To follow up that game, I was browsing the Pitt Athletics site and pulled up the schedule to see what miseries remained. Just for fun I thought I would look at the women's program. That schedule showed a game with Notre Dame last night. Since I was bored with TV, I pulled up the game on the ACC Extra network and watched the women's game. What I saw was disheartening. Not a fan of women's basketball, I was shocked at the talent and coaching discrepancy of the women's team. Pitt was absolutely demolished. It looked like a JV team playing the best team in the league, yielding a 30+ point loss. Our basketball programs are a disaster and I can't see how Heather Lyke can let either program continue under current coaching leadership. Change has to happen because what we have now is simply unwatchable. An empty Pete will continue and the athletic department will dig a financial hole from which it may be hard to recover.
