What is his buyout?

PGT Gallagher should be at the forefront of this buyout. He wanted Dixon gone and got his wish.

I wonder if admin is afraid to make a move. As long as he's here and sucking, people know it's just about the money and that's what is keeping him here. But the second they part ways with him, they put themselves under the microscope, as this next hire could make or break Lyke.

If football remains competitive (people won't like me saying that we are, but Narduzzi I think still has the second best ACC record during his tenure) and fundraising, facilities continue to improve...Lyke will not be fired for a failed basketball hire.

Lyke needs to do her Damm job it's all great in all we have a great volleyball team but that's not what drives the bus this basketball program is a joke she needs to fire these coaches NOW

How hard could it be to simply roll the balls out for practice? Heck - put one of the student managers in charge. They couldn’t do any worse.
Hey Jeff Saturday just got a head coaching gig. If he can, then get Julius on the phone.

Correct. There is no one in the chair next to him to close out the season which is usually the way these things go.
Yeah, what’s the tangible benefit to paying whatever the additional dollar figure is in the buyout between firing him now and firing him after the season?

It's time to bring in Sean Miller, but out his contract from from Xavier or Bradin Knight and see what they can do.

Sean Miller is not leaving Xavier for Pitt and I love Brandin but he’s not the next head coach here

Plus Miller is getting hit with a show cause any day now, right?

What a great move by Heather to listen to the General Counsel's recommendation five years ago. Can you imagine how bad the basketball program would be had we hired Miller 5 years ago the embarrassment of him getting like a 10 game suspension from the NCAA 10 years later once the NCAA investigation is complete. Capel over Miller was such the right call

Seriously this cannot go On.

The buyout bought him one year. He has to get reasonably close to the NIT this year or he's gone. The question will be what if he goes like 16-15, 15-16, something like that? No NIT but is that enough to give him another year since he has a good class coming in?

Miller would’ve sucked here. Never been anywhere but an elite job. Same as Capel

I did not expect them to buy him out now. But wondered what buyout terms dropped to in mid March.

Stop with this. They’re not gonna win 16 freaking games lol. This is his worst team. Hugley ate himself out of being a league average player and the rest of the team is awful. He’s done

If, after what I've seen so far, Capel can pull off 16-15 this season, go ahead and give him five more years for all I care. He has a better chance of walking on the moon before Thanksgiving, though.

There's a question as to if Capel will get to double digit wins total. It could happen with how weak the ACC is now. But this is Capel we're talking about. 10 total wins might be his ceiling this year with this team. He'll pad his total with some of the games coming up against teams that get beat by everybody.

I think there is almost zero chance he’s fired before the season ends.

Yeah, if (when) it gets really bad maybe he gets it in late February, shortly before the season ends. But he's not getting fired today, or next week, or next month. No sense getting riled up over something that simply is not going to happen.

Although it is a message board, so getting riled up is kind of the purpose.

Unfortunately we’re now the Team That Gets Beat By Everybody (at the risk of stealing a trademark from the Pirates).

I think he could be fired by late January/early February if the team is like 1-10 in the ACC......unless the buyout drops after a certain date. The moment Heather is sure she is going to fire him, she should do it right then. If we are 1-10, there is no hope we are going to win 8 out of 9 and make it respectable so in a situation like that, as soon as the season is a guaranteed failure, she should do it

To what end? It's not like if they fire him on February 1st they are going to win any more games. Or save any more money. Or get any more fans to buy tickets to the remaining games. And it's not like they can hire their next coach then, unless their next coach isn't already working anywhere else. And that would almost certainly be a really bad idea.

If you want to say that she should be putting feelers out to people then to see who might be interested and who is not then yeah, sure, absolutely. But firing him on January 20 or February 1 or February 20 or whatever isn't going to make any difference at all. And I mean that literally, none.

While I agree Jamie never had head coaching experience but even then it seemed like a back up plan when they got turned down .

I love BK and all but the fact he can't get promoted at friggin Rutgers and wont take a mid-major job makes it seem like he isn't motivated and doesn't have that desire. That may be totally untrue but if you want to be a HC, eventually you have to leave Rutgers. Seems like he'd only leave for a P6 job or a mid-major power like Iona.

At this point I would be fine giving Brandin a shot.
You can hire great offensive and defensive assistants , if he can close the deal with recruits why not !

It also depends upon what your choices are , people on this board tend to forget Pitt seldom gets their first choices in bb coaches .

If he was successful you could have a coach who really wants to be here .

Your last sentence should have 0 bearing on who you hire. Hire someone who’s highly motivated and wants to move up the ladder.
