What is his buyout?

Your last sentence should have 0 bearing on who you hire. Hire someone who’s highly motivated and wants to move up the ladder.
Yes, hire the best person you can, and give them enough resources that they don’t see a reason to leave.

I understand BK is not ready and hasn't proven himself anywhere. I would honestly look elsewhere. However it would be really hard for BK to be worse than Capel.

While I agree Jamie never had head coaching experience but even then it seemed like a back up plan when they got turned down .
Well yeah but Dixon was on the staff so it was continuity
Brandin has been at Rutgers the past 6 years

It’s too bad we didn’t do this last year or else I’d suggest going after Steve Pikiell. Prob too entrenched there now, but certainly we’d have to be a more attractive option.

I don’t think BK is gonna be the next head coach, or even considered, nor do I think he should be. But the dismissive of his career is insane. He’s like a top 10 highest paid assistant in the country at 600k, associate head coach of a program that completely flipped and been a HM assistant for 14 seasons. Ricardo Greer is not even close to as qualified as BK. I thought it was stupid (and told him as much) when he turned down St Peter’s last year because it was a paycut, but the downplaying of his coaching career is insane.

If it’s because we started to spiral downwards towards the end of his tenure, I get it. But that was more on Dixon’s poor hiring of assistants beside BK, starting with smiley (or Barnes can’t remember which) stupidly advocating for Sandle’s ouster. While not adding much if anything on the Recruiting trail, he was important for player development and game planning. AD’s need to stay the hell out of the way of a coach’s path and just give them the necessary resources to be successful. Lyke is excellent at this aspect, so if she can nail this hire we could flip the program quickly.

Sorry for the long post, just think the poo pooing of his career is insane. And again, not advocating for BK as head coach. If that experiment was gonna work needed to be last time.

There’s almost no chance Vuk/Starkey are right about the buyout btw. How could a contract be fully guaranteed one year and then 7 million less guaranteed the next year? It’s gonna be his base salary x years left

It’s not just the buyout, though, it’s how much of the buyout is due upon firing. That’s what really prevents schools from firing coaches; if you can Bobby Bonilla out a guaranteed contract and only pay a million upfront, the coach is gone. If you’ve gotta pay the guy a huge amount right away, that’s actual real dollars that you’ve gotta come up with and cut a check for.

Example: when Gus Malzahn was fired at Auburn, his buyout was widely reported to be $21M. But the real sticking point when Auburn was deciding to fire him was that $10.5M of that was due within 30 days. That was the money they needed to make sure they put together. The rest was amortized over a number of years, and was subject to offset clauses (Malzahn got another head coaching job, so the number dropped).

Pikiell might be a Top 10 coach in the country all things being equal. What he has done at Rutgers is one of the greateat coaching jobs in American sports. Never thought I'd see that. I cant believe he cant land an elite job and would even return a Pitt phone call unless we're offering like $5 million/$6 million.

As for BK, I think he can be a good HC but his resume sucks for a P6 job. 2 programs, 2 coaches. Needs to go to a mid-major. Absolutely should have taken the SPC job. He seems far too comfortable being an assistant

I smell another L coming up for the Washington Generals of this message board
Not really. I was 100 percent right on Hugley the entire time. The minute they rid themselves of the dead weight they became good.

I’m sure you think it’s a coincidence that we started winning when Hugley was no longer available. Had I know we would know longer play John Hugley, would’ve predicted differently. I said multiple times we were better without him, he wasn’t good enough etc etc.

So yes, the last few weeks have proven me (the globetrotters) right again while you (the Generals and your Hugley will get 1 mill in NIL take) wrong again.

There has NEVER been a bigger L than your take on John Hugley vs mine. NEVER!!!
