What the . . . ?

He is from Pittsburgh so it doesn't surprise me. I would imagine this in regards to getting players to sign with him and not steering them to Pitt. But hopefully, we can get some seasons vacated.
Had nothing to do with recruiting. He was paying college players, trying to get them to sign on with him as an after college financial advisor when and if they hit the Pros.

If he was paying players to go to Pitt, he sure didn't get his money's worth. BTW - if Pitt ever got into trouble with the NCAA, they probably wouldn't apply any penalties....they'd just let us keep doing what we've been doing for the past 30 years.

Sounds like that’s it.

Good news that it was not during the time PN took over so no one can try to use that against Pitt in recruiting etc.

That's what I said. Still would like to get some seasons vacated though

No bleep. I’d be demanding refunds.

It's difficult to be good at cheating.'

When I was in HS way back when somehow the answers to a French examine ended up in our football lockers since a number of us had the class.

We all failed the test since the test answers were for a different French test.

As it turned out one of the asst football coaches was screwing the not so smart but really good looking admin asst in the language department. His other choice would have been the not so good looking but really smart admin asst so he made a bad choice.

It's difficult to be good at cheating.

Honestly, if our players are involved in things like this, just how widespread is the payment of players by various sources at the big boys???

The assessment ... and to be sure, speculation ... by the poster above noted the distinction nicely. This wouldn't be cheating to attract high caliber talent INTO your school, which is the much more critical accomplishment. This was more to entice your best players not to bolt upon the first minute of pro eligibility. If indeed Pitt did have some that fell into that, as the poster speculated, it was a pitifully small list during that period.

The other schools would be expected to have many, many more on the list ... because they had the boosters (and the willingness to let those boosters spend) to attract them in the first place.

There’s conflicting reports of the timeline/dates of this taking place. I’ve seen 2010-14 and I’ve also seen 2000-13/14, which would fall in line with this advisor allegedly paying PSU’s Maybin in 2009.

Never good to be in such news, but to me, the tweet seems far more earth-shattering than the details. It sounds like he worked with draft-worthy players and their family/friends to drum up future NFL clients, unlike than the NCAA basketball scandal's coordinated efforts deeply involving HS recruits, coaches, and school officials.

It doesn't make it okay, but I'm sure direct courtship of pro prospects by agents will be uncovered to be far more widespread than what is named in this testimony.

Just hope no coaches/admins steered the players involved toward the guy. That could get ugly. Otherwise, I doubt this goes much further.

What I find hilarious is....who was in charge at Penn State then? Nothing ever bad happened then, right?

Time to step up NCAA, lay the hammer down with these big schools who are obviously cheating.

I've said this alot.
Arrest, charge, and sentence ( bibery, wire fraud, mail fraud, tax evasion, more)

1 Blue Blood AD
1 Blue Blood Coach
1 Blue Blood Player

It won't happen anymore!

Do you think wealthy familes will break the law getting their dumb as a box of rocks kids into elite colleges anytime soon or ever????

I don't think so!

It's actually a good thing to be mentioned. More recruits might get the idea that cash will come their way at Pitt, as well as the other schools. Right now, it sure seems that the impression is quite the opposite (especially on the basketball side)

Yes. Pitt is sanctioned to continue its own self flagellation.

If this was an independent effort, that's one thing. If a coach was involved, that's an infraction. Look, it's far easier for a player's dad to just set up a church or something and your big donors can just funnel money directly. No messy, idiotic middlemen.
