Im guessing Cooley would beat him out for HWT next year anyhow but that kills the depth because Slinger was highly disappointing once we got to ACC matches
Makes sense. He was nowhere near Cooley, who will still be a freshman next year. If Whitehill wants to start anytime soon, transferring down a step is the best decision.
rumoer was he was injured all year. but there is never any information on wrestling to know the truth.
I have no first hand knowledge, but everything I read suggested top level talent but attitude/personality question marks.
Perhaps those close to the team could verify/deny this?
During interview with Matgeeks, Wentzel mentioned that Cooley was down to like 190 right before ACCs because he was sick. He is already a pretty well put together dude but i can easily see him reach 220-230 range at the very least
That should be his focus. He weighed in at just over 200 for ACCs this year. If he wants to be competitive at Hwt, he needs to add at least 25 pounds.
He has a good frame--he should be able to do it.
Hes been injured all year unfortunately. Cooley is also better at this point in time.
After losing Steen and a couple transfers, I would think they're looking to add another guy. Gavin should be doing everything he can to find a day one starter at 157 for next year.

I don’t know if anyone watched the Pittsburgh Wrestling Classic but Enrique Mungia at 160 looked dominant. Maybe he wanted to stay close to home but he sure would look good in a Pitt singlet coming behind Wentzel when he graduates. And he comes from the same school as Mick Burnett, can’t believe we couldn’t beat out Kent State.
we’re definitely expecting to add some impact transfers. A couple would be huge gets, but nothing is a done deal yet.
Do you think we will hear some news in the next couple weeks regarding these transfers?
at this point I would expect to hear something this week, hopefully no later than next. We’re in the final 2 or 3 for a two that that would be huge additions.

The names have been mentioned in here. If we don’t get then I hope we don’t end up wrestling against them.
The top two targets should be McNally and Verkleeren. Verkleeren especially seems like an obvious fit for both sides, and is the one I think we have the best odds of landing.
Colello entered today as well. Not sure if that is who you are referring to or not
