WHO IS REALLY COMPLAINING ABOUT A NEW PITT STADIUM?

My estimated cost is $400 million.

$100 million for land acquisition
$300 million for the stadium

$100 million financed by Pitt athletics with a 30 year muni. Debt servicing would be about $5 million/year which is similar to Georgia Tech right now.

$200 million from mega donors (Tepper)

$100 million from Pitt general

I think Barnes will pretty much say we can have a stadium if we raise $200 million. Obviously you are going to need 75% of that to come from a dozen or so uber rich. So, if we dont get a stadium, it will be because the fans didnt want to pay for it......and maybe that's the best way to do it. Put it on us (and the uber rich).

A guy like Tepper could write a check for it tomorrow. I have no idea what he thinks of Pitt football or the idea of a "Tepper Stadium" but guys like him are throwing tens of millions at athletics programs all over the place.

Tepper has given over $100 million to CMU. If he cared about Pitt athletics, then he would have made more than just token donations by now.

yeah but he has a pitt script helmet on his desk.. CMU cant say the same thing.. Yeah, he bought them a business school but I guarantee you he cant name one person on their football team..

Unfortunately, you've been in Texas too long. Please catch up.

Of course, this reply makes absolutely no sense whatsoever, nor did it come anywhere near answering my question. This is typical, and to be expected though.

I think it's safe to say that Zeta is a troll. Maybe the Dude or PennyLion (although this is below the Dude and he's too literate to be Penny). Who knows?

Please stop feeding him.
I don't think he is a troll, just think he really likes his on campus stadium plan.. Nothing wrong with having an agenda, if it's pro - pitt. At least he is not like that dionlewis dude, acting like a pitt fan while fantasizing about being in the middle of a Sandusky-james franklin threesome..

I agree but I've watched PSU guys plant things then go brag about it on BWI. It's just beating a dead horse and the arguments look silly because they never change.

I'm fine with a stadium in Oakland, as long as there are major infrastructure upgrades as well as an easy mass transit connection to the city.
And I'm sure the fine people who run this city will get "right on it" especially as it would relate to Pitt.

well according to pittguy1980, the city evolves around Pitt and CMU so im sure, it will become top priority..

Which is why Pitt needs to force the issue... by creating more traffic to make the citizens demand changes. Then we get a dedicated rail line, more major routeway changes, and a n enclosed Bigelow between Fifth and Forbes.

Pitt has forced many issues with our esteemed city council members. For whatever bizarre reason, even though UPMC is the leading employer in the city, they have a tendency to resist anything Pitt needs. Makes no sense but it's reality.

Pitt troll, PSU troll, WVU troll...it matters not. He's dense and his continued dim mantra is actually entertaining in a perverse way. Watching him post is like watching someone get kicked in the beanbag over and over again. You know it's painful...but it's damn funny watching it happen to someone else.

I don't know if he still is, but in the past he has actually been one of Pitt's top donors. We actually need a few more people who donate the way that he does.

They can resist Pitt and UPMC, because people don't like large institutions in Pittsburgh. But they will have a more difficult time resisting people threatening to vote for somebody else if traffic is bad.

True but we need to ask for a MEGA donation. A espn.com headline donation that I see come up once a week from other programs.

Its nice of him to give $25K, $50K. But we need a hundred mill from under his couch cushions to get going.

And that big check wasn't for athletics.

What?? Pgh LOVES large institutions, like unions, party monopolies, the Rooneys and Primantis....all large, obstructive and/or useles.

We aren't entitled to a damn thing. Offer to change the name from Cathedral of Learning to Davidral of Learning. Calling it Davey is way cooler than Cathy.

I think it is time to bury the hatchet my brethren. I found out who you really are, and it bothers me to no end that we've been out of touch for so long. Please come over for dinner. I've invited you so many times in the past my dear friend. Just tell me what you'd like for dinner. I'll make it for you. Looking forward to your visit. All my very best. P.S. I'll send you an invitation to your home if it takes that or anything else to get you to come over these days.

I am for an on campus stadium.

The anti-Pitt Stadium people are the refuse left over from the Nordy "Basketball First" days. They are losing all they connived for in the past. And a few are my former friends and hateful enemies that are basically taking some time off from pornhub.

NAILED IT.

David Tepper funded the entire Pitt Basketball Scholarship Program. Every scholarship. Ask EJ. The man is worth $13,000,000,000.

$1m for scholarships is a far cry from a big check from him. He gave CMU $55m for the business school and another $70m or so for the upper quadrangle with a new business building.

Because I am not a multi-million dollar urban design firm (?) If you understood this field, you'd never ask that question.

But but but...your plan? your website? your connections in the urban design field? your connections in construction and engineering? your connections in finance?

What exactly ARE you then?

And that big check wasn't for athletics.

That's what some people don't understand. There's a reason he gave that much to CMU, and it has nothing to do with athletics.
Exactly. I said that to someone the other day. People aren't against a stadium in Oakland. People are against moronic ideas for a stadium in Oakland. And god knows, there have been plenty of those.

The OP has a difficult time distinguishing between fantasy and reality and can't read real well or comprehend what he can read.

I've always been for an on-campus stadium, but know it's not even close to feasible and there are no feasibility studies already completed or ongoing that say it is feasible. Just plain facts. And Populous has nothing to do with anything connected to a new "Pitt Stadium" that doesn't exist. But there will always be those with pipe dreams that are way out there and impossible, at least for the foreseeable future.

You really need to understand how big money works.

And who would I learn that from? Certainly not you, from what I see in your posts. I already have an advanced degree in Finance. And since you don't have any money to speak of, you can't help.

The OP has some seriously misplaced priorities and seems to be totally out of touch with reality.

Sorry, Basketball is second string these days my disgruntled friend. Your floor seats are worth a lot less since Nordy and Barnes sent Jamie packing, and hired Populous to do a MASTER PLAN. HAIL TO A NEW PITT FOOTBALL STADIUM.
Nordenberg is gone. Basketball paid the bills prior to joining the ACC. I'm all in for a new on campus football stadium. Are you in charge of fundraising or just another poster who wants someone else to pay the bill for their pipe dream? The money isn't coming from the state, so hopefully your plan has factored the donations necessary to achieve this goal.

Tepper could conceivable make a $200M donation towards a new on campus stadium. Problem is, Pitt has not done due diligence in securing a location for such a project. They might very well tell him that they could not accept the money, then wonder why fans don't love playing at the yellow and black Heinz Field

you think pitt would really turn down a 200 million dollar check? For some reason, I don't see that happening.
