Why did Brown play so much tonight

did not see aggressive pressure by us. You really felt we went after them.

we never go after anyone until we have to. Desperation has led to some late game success.

I didn't say we had "aggressive pressure."
You missed the point, I was referring to
YOUR suggestion of "maximum pressure."
I was saying they out-quicked us in the
backcourt. Hell, we couldn't even stay
with their second string guys in a regular
man to man D.

Ok, I'm done, it's been fun. It's also
ok to see things differently We
apparently view the game through a
different lens, and that's ok too.

My opinion - We never really tested their guards - they may have been quicker - sometimes you can be hurried to be too quick

with Capel’s coaching style, I guess we will never find out. I doubt we will ever know if Nikecan play or not either.

I would like to see some of that at the start, especially against NC State andWake with Whitt. Speed these inexperienced guys up.

We have experienced guards in X,Nike and Horton. This kind of pressure suits Femi perfectly.

We need to make the game a game of guards and forwards. With the loss of Hugley we are at a serious disadvantage most bigs against ours.

I would agree with this

Was he one of the ones that didnt run back hard after the X circus shot?

Brown was in position open under the basket for Johnson to dump the ball off to him had he decided to pass the ball instead of taking the circus shot and was the first guy back to try to defend on the other end, and you want to dog him for not running back hard on defense.

In reality, he may have been the only guy on the court who did.

Brown would make a catch and finish? You are kidding right?

Maybe you missed it, but there was a question mark there.

Maybe it would have been better had Brown not got back? He had a butt thrust into him to carve out space, then gave up the basket and one.

In an earlier post you felt we would have probably won had X played more minutes. I agree with that.

Aside from that and I don’t profess to know the answer to this but:

State had 2 bigs on the floor with 2 freshmen guards a lot of the time. Were their things were could have done schematically or through substitution that could have created significant match up problems for them?
I think we should have continued to penetrate. NC St couldn't keep us out of the lane with fouling. When they went to zone, we settled for jumpers a few too many times.

You are right. You had an earlier post that enumerated how things fell apart.

The X turnover and Justin and Toney taking bad threes got us away from what was working.

Justin and Toney were getting to the line regularly.

Do you think we should have attacked their guards. They had little depth and less experience, plus they were playing two bigs together.

We can't play 30 seconds of defense. Maybe really go for turnovers and earlier defensive outcomes? Try to win defensively before their bigs enter their comfort zone?

Why would there need to be a question mark there? If you didn't see it the first time you said you went back and watched it again. When you watched it again were you not paying attention? Do you not know which guys are which?

The fact is that you wanted to use that play to denigrate Brown because he played more than your man-crush did. And that was because he played better than him. Imagine how bad you have to be to get outplayed by Terrell Brown!

The camera was on the Pitt bench waving them back, not on who was actually running back hard.

Dont be going all subliminal on me. ;)

Right, but the camera showed Brown under the basket on offense for a potential pass (that yeah, he probably would have fumbled), and then it showed him first down the court trying to guard under the basket. Unless Pitt has invented a transporter and hasn't told anyone about it yet (which, come to think of it, would be kind of cool) how do you suppose he got down the court?

I did finally see him down the court in close proximity to Funderburk. Funderburk was deeper as he thrust his butt back into Brown to create space. Fundrburk then proceeded to score through Brown’s out stretched arm from behind and get the and one.

Brown was not strong enough to keep Bates from backing him down for a short hook. Brown was not strong enough to maintain position and finish an offensive tip in. Brown was not strong enough to keep Funderburk scoring through him even while fouling him.

All three of those plays occurred in the last 2 minutes plus.

State ‘ s last 5 contested points were against Brown.

But...Brown had a nice stat line.

I would trade that stat line for some clutch, winning Play.

State knew exactly where to go to score. They took advantage of the BIG mismatch.

They took advantage of most of Pitt's players not getting back on defense. And you bitch about the one guy who did.

I mean do you even understand that Funderburk wasn't Brown's man to be guarding at that time, that his man was Bates? He got down court and was trying to cover for his teammate who didn't get down court to guard his man and you bitch about it. Maybe he should have half-assed it down court, like several of his teammates did, and then you wouldn't be able to be bitching because he tried to make a play but failed.

I mean seriously, you'd rather bash the one guy who was trying (and sure, failing) to make a play instead of the guys who couldn't be bothered to hustle down the court. It's nuts.

You can point out those few issues, but he played better than most of our guys tonight. 6 points, 7 rebounds and a few nice defensive plays including a steal. Let's put it this way, we didn't lose because of him. He had the highest plus/minus than any player from either team tonight.
He was pretty bad, it was his best game in a while yes I agree but I believe Coulibaly would've been better. Brown hedges horribly. He has no feel for the game.

Exactly, I thought brown was bad. Those plays are huge and I think Coulibaly would've been the better choice

Brown was closest to the man with the ball, regardless of reason.

it looked to me that Brown had the time and space to get between Funderburk and the basket. Instead he maintained a position facing the end line rather than the sideline.

Funderburk displaced Brown. Now he was facing the basket with Brown behind him. If ever Brown was going to block a shot now was the time. Brown was behind Funderburk, Funderburk had no ability to protect his shot.

Brown reached over top him and Funderburk powered thru.

Weak play by a weak player.

No, you are absolutely right. Brown should have half-assed it down the court like the guy who was supposed to be guarding Funderburk and allowed Funderburk to get an uncontested dunk. Clearly that was the correct play.

Dumb post by a dumb poster.

Are you referring to yourself? Your last argument sure indicates that.

We are now in the insulting stage?

Yeah, that last argument is the "logical" extension of your argument, that's why it seems so dumb. You want to place the blame on the one guy who was hustling and trying to make a play, and you are completely absolving the people who weren't hustling, including the guy who was supposed to be guarding the player that Brown tried to guard to prevent an easy basket.

By the way, maybe this quote will help you understand why Brown played so much.

"We have to be drastically better at that spot because we’re getting hurt at that spot.”

Which seems odd, because you have completely absolved the guy who has mostly played that spot from any responsibility for guy he actually was supposed to be guarding going off on him. But now I get it. If the player you are supposed to be guarding scores, that's not your fault. It's your fault when someone else's man scores if you tried to help.

Odd world you live in.

Give Brown a participation trophy! He tried.

I guess you get a participation trophy for help defense as well?

Funny what seems worthy of praise to some.

Once again, you take a shot at the guy who was trying to make a play while saying nothing at all of the people who were dogging it. All because you can't seem to handle the fact that your favorite player, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Coulibaly, hasn't been playing well lately. To the point that he just got clearly outplayed by Terrell Brown.

It's not Terrell Brown's fault that Coulibaly has played so poorly lately. No matter how much you wish it was.
