they've played the games on friday before, why have them tomorrow when they will be playing at the same time as Pitt and obviously other college games

plus as always two of the games will be tape delayed because of the Pens game

wouldn't it make more sense to play them today?

Kids have school on Friday. They only play them on Friday if Pitt has a home game Saturday.

Considering the last 2 games aren't able to be aired live due to the Penguins game, they probably should have played them over 2 days:

Friday:
5:00 3A
8:00 4A

Saturday
Noon: 5A
3:00: 6A

Or
Saturday
10AM: 4A
1:00: 5A
4:00: 6A
6:30: Pens pregame
7:00: Pens
10:30: 3A recorded

This way, you get the best 3 games live

When the state went to six classes they changed the playoff format. The 4 largest classifications now play a week earlier instead of Thanksgiving weekend.

the games were played the week before thanksgiving many times when there was 4 classifications

WPIAL is becoming a mess. Read today they are only having 9 6A teams next year if nobody declares to play up a division. And with current format 8 of the 9 teams would make playoffs. Just go to 5 classes jeeze.

It was a state decision.

The wpial is a mess because there are only 9 teams in 6A? Well there are many districts throughout the state with less than nine teams in a classification. This was a fact even before the current format. It is not that hard, you can send 4 and give the top four teams a bye week, or send 6 and give the top two a bye...etc. Pull out of the state play-offs because a guy on the message board wants to rent out Heinz field for two days and because private schools recruit? Let's see the scenario, AD to School Board athletic committee: "I feel we should not send our best team in the last two decades to the state play-offs." Why? Reply: "The Catholic schools and private schools recruit too much" Do the players want to play? Reply: "Yes but the CS and PS recruit too much." Is the community excited about the play-off game? Reply:"Yes but the CS and PS recruit too much."

Sometimes this board is too much.

I don't see how "only" having nine 6A teams is a problem. In fact it would be easy to deal with. I mean I get that it is likely that the WPIAL will screw it up, after all that is what they are best at, but nine 6A teams should work just fine.

There are 12 weeks from the start of the season to the championship game, with the ability to play an extra game in "week zero". So in week zero teams can still play a game or not play one as they see fit. Then in the "first" week of the season everyone plays a non-conference game. Then over the next nine weeks you play a full round robin schedule with each team have one week without a conference game because of the odd number of teams. If teams want to play that week (and I assume most would) you help them find a partner with an off week that same week. There are, for instance, going to be a lot of 5A teams with open weeks because there are going to be 22 5A teams and there is no good way to split that up without lots of open weeks for teams. Then in week 11 the team that finished 1st in the standings plays the team that finished 4th and the team that finished 2nd plays the team that finished 3rd. And in week 12 the two winners play at Heinz for the championship.

It really is easy to figure out if you put about two minutes worth of semi-intelligent thought into it. Which is why you should expect the WPIAL to completely screw it up.

a lot of teams have had their "best team ever" in the past decade only to get slaughtered by some catholic or charter school out east

high school sports are supposed to be pure, it's just as corrupt as college

No argument but denying the public school players the opportunity to play is not the solution, both in theory or practice.
