Why Play Bowl Games?

Any bowl games outside the playoff games are dumb and hopefully more players will opt out of playing in them in the future.

then likewise all games after being eliminated from playoff contention are likewise dumb, correct? What is dumb is losing a bowl game and whining about its existence when one would have not done so had Pitt won the game....reminds me of the silly electoral college debate...
