When he comes back to play in the middle, who becomes the odd man out? Is it going to be Idowu, Wirgins and Bright well? Or Ziese?

id like to see Zeise/Idowu compete at star, Pine and Brightwell compete at Money and Reynolds and Wirginis compete at middle. I mean, that's nice and easy there.

You can have brightwell and even Pine play middle if something real bad happens for the middle, you can move Zeise over to MOney if something bad happens, a lot of options. We should be good at LB in '18, SHOULD being the key word.

Ill be sick to my stomach if Zeise and IDowu both start, literally sick to my stomach. I know Zeise had a nice game against the canes but Brightwell is alot better than him IMO.

in a perfect world, REynolds beats out Wirginis at the middle backer spot and lock that position up for next two years. I see some depth issues in '19 at star and middle but we can worry about that next year.

Agree - I would stick with what we have - Wirginis is not that good.
think he can add value as a backup, especially due to our depth at middle. but yeah, if he is our starter, it exemplifies some of our recruiting misses over the last few years..

It would have been best had Pine taken to middle, you'd have him and Reynolds there for 3 years, you have brightwell at money for two yearswith pine backing him up if need be and then you find a star with some of the younger guys for '19. Miller leaving really mucks things up big time.. If McKee doesn't make some miraculous improvements this year and get his name back in the mix, we are looking pretty ugly for Star in '19..

I'll go with Wirginis and Reynolds battling at MLB with Wirginis getting most of the snaps. Zeise moves to Star and backs up Idowu. Brightwell and Pine battle for the Money spot with Brightwell getting the nod. I sincerely hope that Brightwell is not in the middle next year. He's much better suited to the outside.

What’s your beef with Idowu? He had an excellent year, was highly productive and was Hon. Mention all-ACC. He and Whitehead were basically the entire defense production-wise.

Zeise is suspect. He still looks like a guy playing out of position to me, he certainly doesn’t look natural or comfortable at that OLB slot. I think Brightwell takes that starting spot next year with Zeise getting a share of the reps as well.

no beef, he's our star with zeise competing.. I'd rather have pine backing up at money and just let zeise compete with idowu at star. I will throw up if I see zeise and idowu starting together..

Maybe not so much for 2018 but several times I heard Duzz talk highly of the three redshirt fresh and the job they did on the scout team- namely Cam Bright, Al Tucker and Kyle Nunn.

Nobody’s talking about Elias Reynolds but he was on the field a lot this year. He will be in the mix at the Mike unless the coaches beef him up and put him on the DL.

Zeise was fantasic vs Miami and did finish strong.

I actually think Brightwell will be the odd man out. I’d like to see him spell Wirginis on passing downs

Elijah was a receiver in HS. His 1st and second season at Pitt he was caste as a receiver. His third was his first shot at LB, and he was injured in the first game.

This season was his first playing the position every week, and he made tremendous improvements. I expect even more from him next year. He's a great athlete, and should be able to play with out thinking next season.

The move of Wirginis to the middle shifts the lineup to Idowu/Wirginis/Brightwell and its the best the LB’s have looked in years. Back it up w/ Pine/Reynolds/Zeise and suddenly we have a working rotation that can keep attacking all game long.

oh man, that would be very troubling and a bad sign of things to come in '19 as far as the younger guys not developing..

This^^ that would be my guess also. Brightwell played out of position all year. He's going to start for sure.

I don’t buy into that, the key isn’t the kids it’s the coaches. As long as the coaches see these guys flashing ability and demonstrating that they know the coverage they will get their opportunity. Whitehead was a perfect example as was Dane Jackson, Chase Pine, Elias Reynolds and Bricen Garner.

Our want for certain guys to perform (Miller, McKee, Pugh, etc) doesn’t make them players. In most cases guys who can play and make a difference do unless the logjam ahead is that deep. Do coaches miss? Sure. Pete Gonzalez should have played sooner. Sometimes you get a pro behind a pro but I don’t think it’s occurring right now.

Look at our linebackers. It’s pretty clear who’s capable of playing. Spring should be a good indication as well although the o-lines could make the defense look better than they are. If we actually believe in Coach Harley, Partridge and HCPN than you have to think the LB development is only limited by the talent we’re acquiring and the work they put into the process. I like Wirginis a lot but I also see why they played Galambos. That said, Q’s talent got him on the field.
