Women's LAX

Women’s Club Lax is very organized. Generally play D2 teams e.g., Edinboro, SR, Seton Hill, IUP then a very organized club schedule versus OSU, Mich, PSU, WVU, UCLA, Texas, MSU. Very organized championship tourney in May. Pitt is always highly ranked and has won it all in the past. The beauty is the girls are all very athletic and SMART. All could have played D3, D2, or even low level D1. However, most of the team are pre med, dental, engineering etc. they play at Pitt so they can take challenging majors that they couldn’t at other schools. None will play for Pitts D1 program.

Out of curiousity, why wouldn’t any of them play for Pitt’s D1 Program? I could see most of them, but all brings the question.

It’s possible some could play in the first few years until recruiting kicks in. Two issues: First, we have played lower level D1 teams I.e., St Bonnie, St.Francis, Duquesne, and while some games have been close and occasionally we have won, we generally get beat handidly. Second, most of the girls have majors not conducive to significant travel and five days a week of practice.

ACC women’s lax is for real. I believe Va Tech went years without winning a conference game. That will probably happen it Pitt as well at least for several years. That said, Eastern PA lax is strong and that’s where many of our students come from.
