A lot of controversy now on what they did. Bringing up his "checkered" past so to speak to warn women about him.

I think this "rivalry" is now getting out of control. Last time twitter threats and fights pregame and throughout the game itself. Now a radio station making jokes about sexual assault regarding Ben.

Just wow.

Here is the article about it and the link enclosed has the radio station PSA.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry...-roethlisberger-psa_569009f6e4b0a2b6fb6fec0b?

A Cincinnati radio station aired what was supposed to be an amusing mock public service announcement on Thursday, “warning” women between the ages of 18 and 40 that Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was entering Cincy’s city limits. 700WLW's PSA alluded to Roethlisberger’s murky history with sexual violence, using the fact that he has been accused of rape multiple times as a source of humor and lighthearted fodder for its segment.

It's unclear what’s more shocking here: that a professional radio station would put together this spoof or that someone, anyone, could think that joking about sexual violence is at all comical in this day and age.

The transcript of the "PSA" -- which was ostensibly released to fuel the rivalry between Steelers and Cincinnati Bengals fans before their teams face off in a Wild Card game this Saturday -- is worth quoting in full:

"This is a severe Big Ben Roethlisberger update from 700WLW. The tri-state is currently under a severe Big Ben warning from now through early Sunday morning. The Steelers quarterback has been spotted in the downtown Cincinnati area. All females ages 18 to 40 are to use extreme caution, especially if heavily consuming alcohol. Males should also be on the lookout just in case. If you see Big Ben and he flashes Little Ben, you are asked to report it to authorities immediately. Again, a severe Big Ben warning in effect until early Sunday morning. He poses the greatest threat to 18 to 40 year olds, especially those with boob jobs, in the downtown Cincinnati area. You are safe if you live in Butler or Clermont Counties, pretty much anywhere in Kentucky, and most of southeast Indiana. When Ben’s penis breaks out, we break in."

The airing of this “warning” comes almost exactly two months after Deadspin published an investigative report detailing how fellow NFL-er Greg Hardy allegedly attacked and choked girlfriend Nicole Holder in 2014. It comes three semesters after former Columbia University student Emma Sulkowicz began to carry a mattress everywhere she went on campus to protest the college’s refusal to punish the student who she (and others) said had committed rape -- the student who she had previously considered her friend. And it comes the year after we all let ourselves quickly forget about the problematic culture of sexual assault at the University of Virginia, when just one specific report of rape was deemed unfounded.

Roethlisberger looks on during a game against the Cincinnati Bengals at Heinz Field on Dec. 4, 2011, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Ben Roethlisberger was never actually charged with rape. He hushed up the first episode in 2008 by way of a settlement, and received a quick four-game NFL suspension for his 2011 incident, while the criminal charges were dropped.

But, honestly, whether or not this one quarterback was convicted is irrelevant here. Besides cracking jokes about sexual violence, this spoof is also incredibly misogynistic, with a bizarre blame-the-victim undertone. For goodness’ sake, within 53 seconds it objectifies (“especially those with boob jobs”) and partially blames (“especially if heavily consuming alcohol”) past and potential sexual assault victims, while consistently trivializing the act of rape itself (“If you see Big Ben and he flashes Little Ben …”).

At the bottom of its article on the PSA, TMZ asked its readers to vote whether the “rape warning” went “way too far” or if it was “hilarious.” At the time that this article was published, 28,243 people had participated in TMZ’s poll -- nearly half of them (12,992) really did think that it was hysterical.

That right there is the problem. As we make light of topics like sexual violence, overlooking episodes of cruelty because the athletes involved are our heroes or our franchises' saviors, it sends two related, dangerous messages. First, that people like those at 700WLW radio can, without repercussions, continue to find the amusement in cases of abuse, belittling the harm and trauma that the victims of such violence have suffered. And, second, it negates the seriousness of the acts themselves, quite literally presenting rape as entertaining.

As long as 46 percent of us believe that this kind of belittlement is “hilarious” -- or remotely acceptable whatsoever -- this type of issue will continue to crop up. As long as 46 percent of us believe that we can make light of -- and get laughs out of -- violence and tragedy, it’s going to be pretty damn hard for any of us to learn, evolve or move forward.

We need to do better.

Big Ben is a piece of white trash. We talk about PSU being a cult and I agree but a lot of STEELER "NATION" has a similar mind set. They feel their Steelers can do no wrong and that's total BS. From Harrison beating the mother of his child to Hines Ward defrauding his business partners the media and the fan base are in denial.H2P

True - A slime ball is a slime ball whether he plays for your team or not.

Agreed as a Steeler fan I'm not going to throw stones. Big Ben is reprehensible. I remember calling sports shows asking other cities to trade FOR Big Ben so he wouldn't stain the Steelers any further.

All sports, be it football, basketball, baseball, hockey - again, all sports - are loaded with shmuckos whom you wouldn't want living in your neighborhood. Anyone who thinks that their team is the exception has their head buried in the sand.

Nonetheless, it doesn't stop us from paying ridiculous amounts of money to watch them play and to buy their merchandise, so that they can be glorified and overpaid even more. We're the enablers, so that reflects poorly on us as well, both individually and as a society.

It's not my intention to be preachy, since I'm just as guilty as anyone, but our priorities are waaay out of whack. :(

Was Ben ever convicted of anything? Unlike Mike Vick was. But what the fine people of southwest ohio seem to forget is, they had a bungal cheerleader that had relations with a underaged boy.So maybe they shouldn't be throwing stones in glass houses.

Oh come on. Ben wasn't even charged. He may or not be a jerk, but, to paraphrase Greg Lloyd, NLF players aren't hired for their disposition.

Didn't Ernie Holmes shoot up a police helicopter? Talk about a stain!

I thought that was a Raven cheerleader

A) Ben was never charged with anything. At this point it is an incredibly lame and pathetic attempt at humor.
B) The only thing funny is this is the team that employs Pac-Man Jones, undoubtedly the most worthless and classless piece of trash on this Earth.

Love all of the know-it-all judge, jury, and executioners here on a guy who was never charged with a crime.

Well no, he wasn't charged with a crime. He paid the victim a big pile of cash to not press charges. If some average schlub who didn't have access to lots of money to pay off the victim did the exact same thing he certainly would have been charged.

Huge steeler fan here and I think what they did here is fine, all fun and games.. Actually enjoy stuff like this.. Remember browns fans driving in for a playoff game years ago and seeing "Dog neutering today at 12:30; three rivers stadium" and they were offended.... WVU fans cried about "License Plate E-I-E-I-O" in '94.. People need to lighten up.. Plus, huge Ben fan here but the dude did bring this upon himself..

On a side note, why do people care about off field stuff in regards to athletes? As long as it's not effecting their on play performance (IE suspensions) then who gives a crap.. Are you hanging out with these guys? Are you ever going to meet them.. CHeer for the on field performance and once the game is over, worry about your own life..

Fans want to like players they root for. Simple as that. Most fans are conflicted rooting for players who are knucklehead's off the field. Players don't have to be perfect citizen's, but they can't run afoul of the law regularly neither. There's a reason why Troy Polamalu is beloved by Steelers fans and Pitt fans beam with pride when discussing Larry Fitzgerald or Aaron Donald.

If either were accused of some shameful, unlawful deed, the love bestowed upon them drops a few notches, in spite of on-field production. I'm speaking in general terms here. Some, like yourself could care less. Personally, if a player has significant off field issues, I'm not okay with it, but will not boo him on the field, as I want my team to do well, although I'm highly intolerant of spousal and child abuse. I don't want that individual on my team, period.

Well, I hope you dont think if you have a daughter being f'd in a bathroom stall by some drunk dude immoral... then jesus man, you need to readjust the tin foil on your antenna and try to get a more clear signal.

Hopefully, I am raising my daughter right and she won't find her self in that stall. But if she does, she is just as responsible for her actions as the guy.
This isn't the 1950s. This isn't a morality issue.

Exactly. I believed he was charged, too. But let's not pretend that the violence in the NFL is anything new, that it is limited to the Steelers, or that Ben is somehow the face of this epidemic.

No his bloated face just represents the Steelers.

So if your daughters makes a mistake and drinks too much at a party it's ok if she's assaulted? That's insane.

Is that what I said? No! Of course that is different. Ben had consensual sex with a co-ed in a college town bar. Sleazy? Yes, in my opinion. But illegal, immoral? No. His life. And her life.

Keep drinking the Rooney Ale. Guys a immoral sleaze

I don't live in the Pittsburgh area, but I never understood the hate SOOO many people have for Big Ben. And this was before the rape allegations. Is he really that bad? Anyone have any first person accounts?

I'm an unabashed Steelers fan. But what made Ben's situation look worse is that he had his version of an entourage surrounding him, whose (apparent) job was to clean-up the messes.

The whole thing was sleazy and stupid. When you're the starting quarterback of a legendary franchise such as the Steelers, finding "talent" should be no more difficult than showing-up and approaching the pick-of-the-litter. The old "getting the young lady drunk" angle should never be a part of the process.

Not being charged??? He had an out of court settlement with the 1st girl. Terms were not allowed to go public. Who settles out of court if you are innocent...NO ONE. Dude is a jackass and it blows my mind how people in this town just act like he never did anything wrong.

It was a civil suit and there are plenty of reasons why people settle out of court who are "innocent". For example, not wanting your personal life exposed in a long drawn out trial that will cost hundreds of thousands of dollars in legal feels and potentially being found liable because a jury found there was a 50.1 percent chance that something happened. I'm a lawyer so I guess I look at things a little different.

Look, I'm not saying he's an angel. I just don't get the hatred, especially when there are so many actual criminals that are celebrated in the league. James Harrison, come on down!

If you actually read the police reports, which were made public after the decision was made not to arrest Roethlisberger, it states there that the girl said no, both before and during the attack. And her and her friends told the first cop they could find that she had been assaulted.

Yes - my wife was friends with Willie Colon's girlfriend and witnessed him in action and coworker went to autograph session in which he was there. He was a dick towards people in both cases.

I'm not so sure it was consensual. Either way, he knowingly had sex with a kid who was incapacitated. He's a slimeball.

True but according to dchst23 "attorney" it still isn't illegal or immoral.
