WPIAL recruiting

.

How many five star players come to a university unsure of what position they will play? How many come in and get redshirted? Not saying that he will be redshirted, but if he is, I think it would be safe to say that he came in overrated.

Lastly, I like Wade's physicality and he is a good football player. However, I have had doubts about where he would fit best at the next level. I am as interested as you are in when and where he plays for you all. As for Paris Ford, I know where he will be playing and I know he has all the tools to dominate. In my opinion, notice I said opinion, and I am not an INSIDER, you could ask any high-school level or college coach which kid they would rather have and the answer would be unanimously PARIS FORD![/QUOTE]

I would bet Ford will be a better college player than Wade. But I expect Wade will be a good college CB. I do think he will be a bit limited in his upside because he is 5'8 and has good not great speed, and I said as much before he committed to psu, in fact I got a good bit of heat for saying he was overrated because a lot of Pitt fans thought at the time he was going to Pitt. I expect he will start 2 or 3 season's in state college.

OldTiredLion, you only reported on half of what was on this board. Some on this board thought he was great, but many others didn't, and their was a lot of debate about it. I for one, thought he had nice skills, but was too small to play on defense, and got attacked for saying so. He's listed at 5'9", even at 5'10", but that is a stretch; I'm guessing he's no more than 5'8". Even in the lowest classification in which he played, where players are generally smaller, he looked undersized.
I agree that he might make it as a slot receiver, as did Henderson for Pitt, but he will have to battle to get on the field on defense. Again, he has a nice skill set, and is strong, but he's undersized. And I said it back when it looked like he might go to Pitt.

-I have to laugh, seriously. Going back to recruiting and what I said, Jesse Luketa was a 3 star nobody last month, a Penn State commit. Now Ohio State offers, and he jumps up to a 4 star and a fringe Top 100 player Nationally per 247 sports. This kid may or may not be good, I dont know anything about him. But the point is 1 school comes a long and offers then that kid is automatically a 4 star superstar because he may flip to Ohio State. Complete joke.

-There should be 1 big National Large combine that takes place and takes in everybody. Use the NFL equipment so the lies and bullshit from these websites stop. This further proof of a complete joke of a job these websites do at times.

Seriously... These recruiting sites, message boards, star ratings are for people like you and me and others reading these posts. In other words, nobody who counts when it comes to recruiting. There is not a single coach in America gathering his info from Panther-Lair. Coaches don't need a combine to find their recruits, so a combine isn't going to happen.

This is so true...these star rankings are make believe...that is why Alabama always land 2 stars and compete for national titles same with OSU and clemson.

-Did you know Penn State's Franklin offered Paris Ford after seeing 1 highlight clip from high school? 1?

-BTW, this was my fear with Wade all along with size and closing speed. You can see the difference with Wade and Ford here at the All American camp, where Wade's best chance of shutting down an Elite WR is pass interference. Wade got beat on every play. Good luck checking Michael Smith buddy.

We have landed a lot of local kids over the past 30 years. The best attendance we ever had was when we had an out of town superstar named Fitzgerald, a good team, and a good home schedule. Donald was the best DL in college, and the attendance bump was minimal at best.
If Donald was a quarterback the bump would have been significant

Stink most years? Pitt may be mediocre many years, but they do not stink. Do you consider 7 or 8 wins stinking? I sure don't. When a team is competitive even against good teams, and wins a few here and there, they do not stink. And, I don't think locals feel Pitt stinks. Now, they do consider some of the elite schools better options, but Pitt has gotten at least a few top locals consistently. That negative attitude permeates a portion of our fanbase that hinders the support the program needs.
Fairly or unfairly, perception is reality ... and relative ... in many cases, and I think the standard is high here due to the consistent excellence of our pro teams (2 of them anyway), not to mention Ohio State regularly being excellent, WVU consistently overachieving (no matter what one thinks of their conference), the looming presence of Notre Dame, and the inflated sense of hype for Penn State here a mediocre season is spun by the local media as good, a good one as great, and a bad one is censored completely etc. because they have alum in the media and it pleases their cultist fans).

So, yeah, unfortunately, a program that is regularly no better than 7-5 on average (and almost always ends its season with a disappointing loss, negating the good of the bowl) is going to leave the locals with a perception that it "stinks" in comparison to the above. Especially because the media keep bombarding the message that we do.

Winning 10+ games frequently(and finishing with a win more frequently than once a decade) is the only way to change that.

Back to my starting point: I'd rather get 5 local kids with the #1 player included, than to get 8-10 local kids and not get the guy with true game changing potential.
Dude, get your head out of the silicon and come back for a visit. tons of Pitt, CMU, and other millennials roaming lawrenceville, shady side, and carson street on saturday nights. they have good jobs, and aren't paying a half mil for a fixer upper dump in northern cali.

Most of the people you are talking about "roaming" are college students. I've been down SS in the middle of summer on a weekend and it was completely dead. Most of the college kids get their degree and leave.

Young people with jobs dont roam the streets anywhere during the day. Pittsburgh is booming . What is your reference ? Driving around. Ask anyone investing in the City.

Was talking about the night life.

The only thing around here for them is medicial field and technology. And there is still only so many openings for that.

I watched the receivers win 90% of those battles. Paris Ford was burnt once...made a nice play once. Do you think Ford only played 2 snaps all week and Wade 3?

-I watched Pitt beat Penn State because Penn State is slow. Henderson annihilated that team with Elite speed. Talk is cheap now. We'll see who the better player is next year between Ford and Wade. We'll see. Can't wait.

The "Medical Field" is predominantly low wage service workers. Pittsburgh is near the bottom of job creation and at the bottom of venture capital for "tech."

So, what's your point?
Look, I love the people in the burgh, but get real.

Huh? What does Henderson have to do with the under armor week? Funny

Pittsburgh is a bandwagon sports town. Nobody cared too much about the Penguins until they started winning. Then they forgot about the Pens for a while until they started winning again. Pitt was a bigger draw than the Steelers until the 70's. The Pirates attendance curve looks like a roller coaster over the last forty years.

I guess to summarize, prove you can win, and the bandwagon fills up.

the problem with Pittsburgh as I see it is that the outer suburbs seems to get the bulk of the people and that is going to include any nightlife.. I've been to bigger cities (DC especially) and in downtown DC (NW of course, the rest is garbage) and most nights, it's very bustling. Not only bar crowd but people out all together. downtown Pittsburgh, come 7pm, it's a ghost town. Pretty obvious why, no one lives downtown. Outside of South Side and maybe the strip, you go out on a Thursday night, well not much going on. it's improving though, a lot of younger people seem to go to the cultural district now, especially in summer months, some bars and restaurants there that just aren't your "beer and shot" places.

Efforts have been made in last 15 years to get people under the age of 80 to buy places in the city, they remodeled some warehouses in South side to make "loft" type homes, nicer places down by on end of Southside, a big boom in Strip/Lawrenceville with some upscale condo/apts as well. To try and get people to actually live within the city limits..

People say Pittsburgh population is declining and they technically are right, within city limits, we are under 300k where 40 years ago, it was 400k+) but that doesn't take into consideration the "metro area".

That's it in a nutshell, this town will only support you when you are winning.
Of course you will always have a core of fans who will be there thick or thin but the
majority are fair weather fans.

If what you said were true, I would say getting this upset on a messageboard about it might be more concerning for you ;)

Not upset in the least :) I just think you're absolutely hilarious among other things....

I would say more deranged than anything. I can think of many things I would rather do with my money than to pay to troll another teams anonymous message board. Got to feel sorry in a way for ol DionMauti.

That 9 dollars could go a long way slick....maybe replace a pair of your socks?
