WTAE confirms Franco Harris has died.

My uncle took me to his cousins golf club in Salem ? Ohio to watch it. I thought it also was O’harris lol

Ok. From the Blount interview I mentioned above:

1) Mr Rooney famously never saw the play because he was in the elevator headed downstairs after what he assumed was a loss. But what I didn’t know is the elevator panel is in the Hall Of Fame.

2) additionally Franco was reading the newspaper one day and read that crews were ripping up the Three Rivers carpet for replace the with a new one. He ran over to the stadium and the crew was on lunch break and had stopped ripping up the turf about 5 yards from the spot where Franco caught the ball. He was able to locate the spot where he caught the ball and “cut out”(no pun intended) the section and took it home. That section is in the Hall of Fame too.

3) apparently an unidentified man has the ball and all efforts to recover it have been unsuccessful.
A guy named Jim Baker of West Mifflin (whose son wrestled at Pitt) has had possession of the football ever since Roy Gerela kicked the extra point after the catch. Just read the story behind it on The Athletic this morning. Said he will never part with it.

Fun story, my dad and his family watched it live on WJAC. However, he grew up in the Johnstown neighborhood of Oakland so he was a Raiders fan because he thought they played right down the road when he was young. Safe to say he was likely the only person in Western PA not happy when Franco scored!
There was a brief time that I wondered if the Redskins were from Washington, Pa.

That stuff is awful. But, even cheaper is the Hunts sauce that comes in a can. The roasted garlic is pretty good for the price.
Classico is a pretty good cheap sauce in a pinch. The tomato basil is really good. But yes, I prefer to make my own.

More known for the reception or his antics after the psu scandal?
More known for being a gracious and kind person.

Yes, he went over the deep edge for Paterno. Misplaced for sure.

But I actually am not surprised at the incredible amout of stories from average people over the last 24 hours who bumped into him at some point and he was super cool and nice w them.

He lent his time to countless charities, I still have a picture of him w my daughters after a walk / run every for needs children about 10 years ago, shared it on my timeline and a neighbor shared a picture of him w her daughter at the same event earlier thus year.

The world needs more Francos. He embraced his celebrity and paid it back many times over by being nice to people.

That is why I said, "he walked among us". He wasn't this celebrity shielding himself from the public and when out, inconveniencing the public to advance himself and whatever he wanted. He was us. He did what we all did. He ate at the same tables. Shopped at the same stores. I mean you have to respect that if nothing else.

I’m not surprised either, but I’m sure my appreciation will be ruined by the impending psu slob fest that will be coming locally once the Pittsburgh, Steeler and NFL accolades are over.

ALDIs higher end sauces are surprisingly good.
I usually don't do this with my go to's but enough arguing about crappy store bought sauce. Reminds me of the garbage Ray Liotta had to eat when he went into witness protection at the end of GoodFellas..

this.....and use the spicy sausage and have patience to let it simmer a long time. Tastes just like Franco's mom used to make..

I stood behind Franco once at a Starbucks, lol. Probably about 15 years ago but I was amazed how big he was for a RB. a legit 6'2 or 6'3". And this was in the 70's before the super-sized NFL players. He used to get a lot of heat for running out of bounds rather than lowering his shoulder for extra yards but it definitely helped preserve him and let him play over 12 years, which is exceptional for a RB.

Smart runner.

Man, I must be really old and senile because I sure don’t remember not watching that game live. Grew up in Springdale, either watched the games there or at cousins outside of NewKen. Surely that had to be considered Pittsburgh viewing area back then.

My obviously deficient memory says you’d have a hard time convincing me I didn’t watch that live.
We lived in Butler at the time. Dad and his crew rented a hotel room in Oil City and watched the game there. I was only six so I didn’t get to go and missed the greatest play in NFL history. I’ve never let my dad forget how badly he screwed me over with that poor decision. 😂
