Basically a 12 over a 5 to start the tourney. Not sure why they only show the top seeds of each region.
They don’t technically seed below 8 in volleyball, though in general they try to match the better non-seeded teams against the 6/7/8s. Loyola Chicago probably would’ve been a 13 or so based on their resume
Yeh....I get it. The committee only seeds the first 32 of the 64 team field. BYU was a 5 seed.....actually seeded 17th.
For the unseeded teams, travel distance to the host site plays a lot bigger role than creating a "perfect" bracket.
By the way, ESPNU is showing a split screens of multiple games at the same time. They had several really close games coming to an end all at the same time. At one point they were showing five games at once, and they were all close at the end of a set.
Georgia Tech took the 3rd set from Tennessee 32-30. Tennessee had seven set points and lost them all. On four of them they served the ball into the net.
And now they are back at it again. 24-24 in the 4th with Tech up 2-1.

Unbelievable match….going to 5. I can’t believe GT is playing another 5 set match. I think this is their 5th in a row….and they haven’t won one yet.
I would hate to see 2 ACC teams flame out in round 1…..especially against the SEC!
By the way, the document I am looking at says that a team's ticket allotment for the first weekend is 100 tickets and for the second weekend it's 200 tickets. It does not indicate what the allotment is for the Final Four.

I'm watching the Div III semifinal match between undefeated, #1 Juniata against Hope.
Turn it on...unbelievable defense being played by both teams!
Hope won the first 2 sets and was leading midway through the 3rd. Juniata, on the strength of 36 digs in the 3rd set alone, came back to win the 3rd set.
4th set about to begin.

Juniata came darn close to being eliminated. Were down 4-0 in the fifth before coming back. Hope's serve receive ultimately killed them. Fun fact, that was their first five set match since September of 2022. Juniata for the three-peat on Saturday at 4:30.
In D2, Gannon and IUP won their openers. Clarion lost in five sets. Very close game against WV State. UPJ went down in four.
You'll probably never see a D1 middle have a better game than Payton Brgoch did last night. But FSU's problem all year has been that they just don't have many weapons.
Two upsets on the first night. I'd keep an eye on the UTEP vs Oklahoma game tonight. Might also see some interesting outcomes in some of the second round games tonight.
UTEP brought some energy- their fans are super into the match . Cheerleaders and mascot are here. Oklahoma didn’t bring theirs. .
Hard to imagine Pitt being pushed by either team.

Bee Kelley hasn’t played. She is on the bench but standing away from the huddle on the timeouts. I hope she isn’t hurt. Virlan played some at MB, but I don’t think she touched the ball.

She's not warming up during timeouts either. I don't think she warmed up during pregame either, but I wasn't paying close enough attention to be sure.
Mizzou taking out SMU is fantastic for Pitt
I knew SMU could be erratic but I didn’t see Mizzou doing that. SMU hit 0.440 in the fourth set and still lost.
I am not sure I feel one way or other about Missouri taking out SMU as it relates to Pitt. The only team that can beat Pitt, is Pitt.
