WVU to lose 3

Mentioned this before on the pay board. May bear repeating now:

Compounding things for the hoopies right now is that they have an almost brand new AD. Wren Baker (44 y/o) has only been on the job for approx 6 1/2 months.

He came to Mo’town from the U of North Texas. Between the tenuous situation with HFC Neal Brown and now this mess with BB, that’s a helluva lot to have on the plate for a new guy. He might have to rely on a lot of help from 79 y/o school president E Gordon Gee. 😳

Look for Wren Baker to start wearing bow ties like his boss. Also most of the hillbillys hate him for firing huggy and the other hillbillys hate him for not firing Brown.

Yep. Baker sure appears to be in some deep 💩! He’s pretty much been hit with a “perfect storm” 🌊⛈️

I'm not a huge fan of his. Thought he takes some very bad shots. Quick question for you, would you take him over Dior? With the unknown upside of Dior?

I'd like Kerr and Dior to play at times together as the 1-2. With Leggett, that plenty of minutes for the 1-2 spots. Add in Lowe, and I think this is capable replacement of Nelly, Burton, Elliott and Nike. (I think we are still underestimating how much it will take to replace these four.)

I'm not totally sold yet on on Zach as the three (or moving Blake or others to the three).

Capel runs a dribble drive offense. At least two legit ball handlers needed at all times.

I'd just rather have Kerr for this reason.

Baker is a basketball guy. Made a great hire at North Texas, managed McCollum well as NWSU. He’s pretty much a star as an AD.

That said, it’s amazing he didnt have anything prepared for this situation. He had to know this was Huggs last year and given his comments on the radio show had a pretty serious drinking problem and was a time bomb.

If after all this time has passed and they go internal it’ll be a grave mistake for him. If they pass over Everhart and go to Eilert, it may actually be what gets him fired.

The situations and timing that have passed for him not be able to hire Grant McCasland are pretty insane. I think McCollum would be a homerun there, but he’s not gonna be liked by the boosters at first. Baker is in a terrible situation and he’s compounding it every dag

It’s hard to get the cream of the crop this late in the basketball year. It’s the end of June. It’s a very good power 5 job in a top conference but it’s too late in the year so to speak. If the assistant keeps the portal players they might have a good year. If they leave the hoopies will be middle of the pack in conference.

Of course we all should remember the back and forth between Nordenberg and Dixon. Nordy says to Jamie, you have never been a head coach before. Why should we take a chance in you. Dixon replied, you were never a chancelor or president anywhere. You were the Dean of the law school when the board gave you the chancellor title. Didn’t they take a chance on you? A few days later Jamie got the job.

Still you have to look at the hoopie program and pass most of the success on to Huggins. He had his way of doing things. He was very successful.

Dixon was Howland’s right hand man and top assistant for awhile before becoming our HC. Different situation.

As I said on the pay board, maybe he's their Jamie Dixon. Maybe he's their Paul Hackett. Let's hope it is the latter.
He’s been on the court coaching 1 year. He was an ops guy.

Ron Everhart has coached 511 games. Unless Ron already took a spot on Kentucky’s staff and is taking Tre, Edwards and Kerr, this decision is baffling.

I dont pay much attention to wvu beyond the hc, so i dont know much about their assistants and who shouldve been promoted, but i think the best move was promoting an ac for a year with the expectation of hitting the coaching market hard next year and going after a dusty may or someone.

Probably. Going with the guy who has never called a timeout, only has one year of actual on court coaching experience over a guy who has coached 511 division 1 games is the height of insanity.

This would be akin to Jamie getting fired and letting Hiring smoke as the interim head coach.

Josh Eilert going into Kansas, Kansas State, Baylor, TCU, Texas, Iowa State? He’s simply gonna be outcoached by all of those guys. They better keep all the transfers and try to out talent some of those teams

It's pretty obvious Huggy will sit out a year, pretend to go to rehab and be back sitting on the sidelines next year.

Lol maybe he should take the WVU job as you suggested. Stick to football
WVU is only a possibility if he gets ran at UK. The buyout is down to roughly $40 million

I hope he turns it around, but another 10 loss season and early NCAA exit should send him packing. Big Blue Nation has pretty much given up on Cal.

Dumpster fire?? No.
By Kentucky standards, absolutely.

1 SEC Regular season title in the last 5 years.

No SEC Tourney titles.

Zero Final Four appearances in 8 years.

Only 2 Elite 8 appearances in the last 8 years.

That's all well and good at most places. It's unacceptable at UK.
