The 2nd half of yesterday made me sick. Not because we lost to a bad team. That happens with a young team and I knew we probably would have at least one more bad loss.

But the senseless drives by X and Trey, to some extent, into double and even a triple team (at least twice by X) are just unfathomable for an ACC point guard. Chucking shots with no attempt to pass in those triple teams is crazy.

Carl was no more talented than Xavier, but he was incredibly efficient----defensively and offensively, he was relentless on stopping the ball on defense and creating a good shot offensively (usually by others). He had a win the game mindset that is lacking on this team. X's goal is to make the NBA and create a highlight reel to justify it. Winning the game is clearly not as important to him. X needs to have a goal of 8 assists every game as opposed to 18 points. Until he changes, we will see more of yesterday and more Jamel Artis selfish basketball with disappointing outcomes.....

At least X has several assists per game. Trey creates nothing for others. Carry from Duquesne doesn’t have the physical ability that Johnston has but is much more effective in his role.

Karl had to prove himself in practice every day for 2 years against Brandon Night before he started. And he did actually have a bit of that X tunnel vision and dribble hog thing, to the extent he was basically moved off Point for much of his Senior season....

Yes, I was about to say the same.

Carl Krauser sat on the bench behind Knight for multiple yrs. I recall he redshirted his freshman yr also.

Johnson doesn't have that benefit. He'll get better, but it will take time.

I also didn't like a lot of what X did yesterday, but to say that winning the game is clearly not as important to him........is something none of us on here
have any idea. My sense tells me he has a green light from Capel to take
the ball in crunch time and break down the defense. Where we all agree is
that he sometimes needs to give it up after drawing the D to him.

I’m not sure , but I think Krauser was ineligible his first yr at Pitt .

The rumors I heard at the time was that he was destroying guys in practice .

Krauser was far better offensively than X .

Artis also was far more gifted offensively than X .

The situation X and Trey came into was far different than anyone coming into a team of JDs . Freshman got spot minutes with the exception of a very few guys . Even when freshman did play a prominent role they were surrounded by experienced upperclassmen . Being relied upon so much to make things happen last year hasn’t helped them in learning that’s it’s ok to rely upon their teammates. Hopefully they’ll learn they can’t always do it by yourself .

Krauser was old. I think he was a 21 year old freshman. I know he is older than BK.

I am going to scream. How do you know all this? Or are you just making crazy assumptions to fit your narrative?

I don’t think X is “playing to make the NBA and create a highlight reel”. You can tell X and Trey really, really want to win. Look at how many important defensive plays each make and how hard they play.

When you watched Artis and Young, you could just tell from their body language and effort they didn’t care at times.

I never see that from X or Trey. I just see them struggling to know what the right play is and with the balance of trying to carry the team to success and trusting others.

I can't imagine how anyone who knows even a little about basketball could watch those guys play and think that they don't care about winning.

I'm not proud of how little I liked Artis and Young as seniors. I take some solace in the fact that Artis was about 34 years old when he graduated, so I didn't feel bad being critical of him. But they were still in college, so I felt like a heel because, wow, I did not want to cheer for them.

Trey and X aren't even close to that level.
