She said over the weekend that corporations should not be investing in and making money off single family homes. Many Republicans also have this stance. I disagree. I dont like it but if I want to start a company and buy homes to sell them or rent them, the government shouldn't tell me that I can't.

Oh, my heart! I agree with you.

Why should a seller be prevented from getting the best deal for them.

Lol. Yea, I mean I don't Iike this trend but I think both sides use it to score political points. This isn't what's causing the home prices to go up. I've said many times, there's tons of affordable housing in medium to bad school districts. We don't need to regulate who can buy homes.

It does cause some price inflation. These companies are buying houses because they are outbidding individual buyers and paying a higher price.

Yeah, but the corporation gets what, a 1% or less loan while the average home buyer is paying a much higher rate.

Meh. I am not shedding any tears if corporations can't purchase homes in bulk.

Are you a corporation?

So, it's a situation where a business that was granted a license to incorporate is using that franchise to exploit the citizens.

Which is why Citizens United was bad

JMO
How are they exploiting citizens?

They are openly bidding on property for sale.

CU was a good ruling. More speech is always better than less speech.

Large corps, let's say Walmart , should not be able to see a disaster and use their massive funds, which the State enabled them to earn, to take advantage.

If you have an LLC or a small corp organized for real estate development, that should probably be okay.

Corps are State created entities and thus should be regulated by the State as to what business they can engage in. Rights are endowed to us by our Creator and are unalienable. Natural law cannot apply to unnatural things.

I don't understand your first paragraph. How is Walmart taking advantage of a disaster?

My problem and this is for both single homes and commercial property and this has become a relatively new thing is these out of town/absentee corporate owners. They buy up, don't put money in, don't fix stuff, let fall into disrepair, don't pay property taxes, yet claim them, etc......and generally pray on poor and depreciating areas.

How do they avoid property taxes?

Corp charters were originally designed for non profits, charities, and Churches, i.e. organizations that didn't have individual people as owners AND were engaged in activities that benefitted society. But then the government began granting people unnatural privileges for business purposes.

That's fine, if government is authorized to do this, but then government also is authorized to put limitations on what you do while enjoying those privileges.

So, if a corporation has amassed great wealth making widgets, the government may not think it fair to use that wealth to buy up the homes of people who've suffered from economic woes.

Why should those who have suffered economic woes be forced to take a lower price than offered by a horrible corporation?

Well, if you put it that way....🤔

Because government gave them an edge and in hard times the pool of bidders is less able to compete. Just require the bid be minimum 80% of market value, or whatever. Let the fortunate bless the unfortunate.

Black Rock is the boogeyman here and although I say that I don’t like it, why should we be regulating how a private business spends it money. There is no housing crisis. It's just that people don't want to live in crappy towns. You don't have the divine right to live in a nice town. Go buy a home for 50K in Charleroi. All the Haitians are being deported on April 24. They came here with $3 and bought/rented homes. I'm sure they are plenty affordable for these hard-working Americans who can't find a home under $1 million in the nice suburbs.

BlackRock is a publicly owned corporation, not a private business.

Nothing is more important to townies than Blackrock being able to consoom at optimal prices

They don't pay
They dont, we do or did through our tax dollars. Commie Joe and Kumala were doling out tax dollars to pay for their housing and food. But of course I know you knew that just making sure some of the rubes on this site knew that.
