Many on Pitt boards seem to get upset when PSU supporters post. I say bring it on. There are more posts and emotions stoked in the threads in which they participate. Yes, some are trolls and are just on here to demean and create negative reactions, but some are reasonable and add to the discussion even though it may not be what we Pitt fans want to hear. I have friends that do the same in the neighborhood and establishments in which I frequent. Pitt fans should be on a high right now, and have no need to be insecure or defensive. There are good responses for everything they can dish out. Our new AD and coach has brought renewed enthusiasm, credibility, and interest, so why not invite the competition on board? PSU is a rival, and hatred in athletics is part of that. We will be playing them soon enough, so instead of chasing them away, I say bring them on!!! These boards can use the traffic.

regarding the same theme on BWI, I couldn't have said it any better. I enjoy engaging in conversations with opposing fans, but I can't do it on BWI (and previously on the Lair) because everyone gets banned. I don't really understand it. it's pretty easy to fish out the trolls.

I had a nice dialogue on here yesterday about Miles Sanders and actually posted what I had heard on my end. All my posts were deleted. In all honesty, I don't get it. If I am on here and respectful why would you not want to hear additional information? What made it worse was I didn't get a message from anyone on why my posts were deleted. I get it if I curse or post porn or say something lewd about your coaches, etc. but other than that what's the reasoning?

I can troll/flame PITT all I want on tMB and don't have to worry about a thing. I don't need to be doing it here.

For legitimate discussion and some decent natured ball busting it's fine. But some of the recent visitors have been clearly nothing but trolls and those posts should be removed and the users probably banned if that's all they're going to do.

Trolls should be removed and banned, but Pitt posters reflexively referring to every PSU fan or poster as Ped State or pedophile enabler is simply childish. Asking for all of them to be banned is draconian nonsense.

My assumption is that everybody here is an adult. Act like it.

The ped state reference isn't a big deal IMO...its your board. The cry for mods to ban is humorous. Who reports someone to mods? LOL

It's unnecessary. I would toss it out to one of your PSU cult drones being an a$$wipe, but to use it as the first option is lame IMO.

I like talking Pa.football and had a decent time yesterday on bwi discussing it. Yes, there were quite few trying to get me to be as disrespectful as they were forwards me...all because they take joy in banning Pitt posters. The same goes on here and I don't understand it. Do I hate PSU and want to see Pitt beat them...YES. However, I don't need to beat up a PSU poster just because he hates Pitt. As long as he is respectful here...so shall I be towards him or her.

We are talking sports, competition, bragging rights, it's all good!

I'm a PSU alumnus and hate losing to Pitt but I don't hate Pitt.

Actually just hired a Pitt alumnus last week over a PSU grad, both equally qualified by the way.

At 1 time the Pitt / PSU rivalry was equalled by few here is hoping we get back to those days soon !

Rarely do PSU posters post on these boards. Now you're crawling all over it. Do you work for the huge PR firm you guys hired to deflect the Sandusky scandal? Or are you for real and scared to death that your lily-white foundation is cracking?

It's great that they can post and have an interest in the dialouge. I find some of the topics on the BWI site interesting as well. It doesn't have to be a constant pissing contest. That's for people that feel insecure about their program. I think we're both heading in a good direction. If someone disagree's, well it gets settled on the field not on a chat room board.

Personally, I welcome the PSU folks and look forward to posting from time to time on the BWI site. The more interested we are in each others teams, the more interest there is in seeing those teams play. I don't have to be a PSU's fan to think Mike Hull is a really good LB, etc. I have a healthy respect and hope to heck we can get back to playing every year. That's a great game to win and when you lose it makes you burn to play them again. This in state rivalry is ready to ignite again.

Paterno is and always will be the dividing line. The Nits still wish to buy the "success with honor' B.S. he sholved to them. In the end he proved to be the biggest POS in all of college football.
As long as I don't need to discuss Paterno with the Nits...we get along fine. Therefore, I just avoid the subject. It's something we never will agree upon.

Football GAMES and winning them by any means may be the tantamount goal of most Ped State supporters, but I sincerely hope that selling your soul and excusing and accepting odious criminals acts in doing so is not justifiable to the great majority of Pitt fans,
Those of us with a conscience are not "insecure" about our football program.
Getting it "settled on the field" has nada to do with altering the culture in State College.
By playing them, we legitimize their actions., but of course, money trumps all
.
Nothing has changed in that back of beyond land of bigotry and delusion.
Many fans may not despise Ped State, but to have a "healthy respect" for that disgraced and amoral institution and its enablers places one squarely in their ethical circle.

Well.....pretty much ANY Pitt fan who posts on BWI is banned. Here, many PSU fans go without banning. Big difference. I mean, there can be no opposing nor dissenting views in Nitterland. Here, we are fairly grounded in who we are.

I hate the Pitt fans who childishly refers to every PSU poster like they were personally responsible for the scandal.

And the "banning" again, you have to realize most of us have been banned on BWI for just typing key strokes.

And you got to understand where a lot of us come from......for years and years we have heard PSU fans look down on Pitt the school, and the football team for being "thugs" and crap like that while you guys were a bunch of choirboys. That narrative over a few decades then seeing everything happen during the end of the Paterno regime and now Franklin's antics, well.....it was hard to stomach.

before the recent website changes, all PSU posters were banned over here too....for "typing keystrokes". Some were (are) a**holes, sure (pnnylion, for ex). for some reason, we're able to post on here again. i don't know what happened, maybe a new regime or something. and sorry you guys can't post on BWI.....I agree, it's ridiculous. ban the posters that add 0 to the conversation or trolling/flaming or whatever the term may be....and leave the others add to the discussion and politely refute any silly claims that PSU/Pitt poster presents. gosh, it clearly makes these boards more interesting and much more fun. I honestly just enjoy talking about football and am interested on what goes on with Pitt football for obvious reasons....and i'm sure most of you guys feel the same (obviously, some won't admit that).

the whole "where Pitt fans are coming from" point you're making. sorry.... but living in State College/going to PSU, I knew tons of people from Pittsburgh and all my in-laws are from Pittsburgh....and I never got a whiff of this feeling you describe/this sense of superiority. I trust how you feel, and I'm not saying it's not true, I just personally never have felt it, and it was never expressed from all the people I know from the Burgh.

that being said....what the heck am I suppose to do about it? I'm just me...I went to Penn State....love watching PSU football....seperately, visited Pittsburgh many times....love the city, and sure, I like seeing Pitt lose.....so? that doesn't mean I don't like people that went to Pitt?....I just want your football team to lose....geesh.

If you or someone doesn't like somebody, that you don't know, simply because they went to Penn State, Pitt, West Virginia, etc.....well, that makes you a j*rk off, in my mind.

Dude, I HATE your football program. And your fanbase......because you have a GREAT fanbase. We don't. I can admit that. But I also know that PSU is essentially the PRO sports team for the 717 and 814 area codes. Where in Pittsburgh, obviously we have pro teams, so you (and any big state school not in big cities will always have that advantage. Even a Podunk school like WVU.

But....what Pitt fans don't get, and what PSU fans don't get, we are....really, each other. We are mostly the same people, neighbors, even family members. I know some Pitt fans look at PSU like it is a character flaw. I don't really think any of us blame YOU for what happened up there. But where we draw criticism is your reaction and response to those events. THAT was over the top.

"Thugs", of course, was a code word, and on more than one occasion I had UPSers drop the code and use the word they really meant. Like most on here, I was banned on BWI. As far as I could tell, it was purely because of my handle.

The ped state reference isn't a big deal IMO...its your board. The cry for mods to ban is humorous. Who reports someone to mods? LOL
In fairness, no one on BWI has to report anyone to the mods; the BWI mods are so quick to use their banning power that negative posters are sent to Internet Purgatory before anyone can complain about 'em.

We are alike in some ways, but in other ways we're not. I've read blatantly racist and sexist comments on BWI that I've never seen on the Lair, and BWI didn't ban those posters. And the vile, threatening comments on BWI about Sara Ganim were over-the-top and deserved to be investigated by law enforcement authorities, yet those posters weren't banned from BWI either. It's incidents such as these which make Pitt posters VERY different from those who habitate BWI.

Just so we're straight, your statement that ALL PSU posters were banned here is completely 100% false. There have been a few number of PSU posters who have posted here, sometimes frequently for a long time. There have been others who have been banned. But Chris typically monitors these boards and posts a bit more liberally than BWI. I can only go off my own experience but I was banned from BWI some time ago after posting directions to Champaign for someone who was asking. (My husband is a U of I alum.) In no way was I flaming or being even remotely disrespectful. That's just not my style here or anywhere else. The only reason I got banned was because of my user name.

there was a reaction?...lol.

well, i'm not sure specifically what you're referring to (could be so many things). i mean, besides the rioting....within hours/days, our school was publicly persecuted....so yeah, some self preservation was on display. all of sudden, everyone in the entire PSU community was deemed bad....so yeah, people reacted. I wonder how yinzers would react if the same thing occured to their beloved Steelers and the Rooneys? immediately denounce them without a trial, eh? yeah, I don't think so.

honestly, it's silly going down this path on a message board. there's so many layers to whole the thing. I'm sure you know some Penn Staters that you don't think are delusional/irrational, but at the same time, you disagree with their stance.

anyway, it's been a few years since that mess....I just want to watch football. I'm glad we got a guy like Franklin that's busting his hump and selling the program (and there's plenty to sell) to get people excited and getting top notch talent into the program.

ok ok...not a 100%, gosh. most? like 95%?

i'm sure there's a Pitt fan or two lingering around BWI...lol

Pitt Girl...sorry you got banned, but what your whining about occured to me as well. do i got to say it again?....I hate that BWI (and previously, the Lair) banned everyone (most...sorry) for practically nothing. I don't know about you, but this forum has been much more interesting lately

do you ever see comments on CNN, your local newspaper, etc?....they're practically threatening bodily harm on some of those threads.

1) The day BWI allows Pitt fans to post on their board is the day we welcome PSU fans here.

2) 95% of the PSU trolls DO NOT want to discuss. They want to pontificate their talking points.

Don't speak for the rest of us GT74...

Really - there was a fan or two of Pitt posting on BWI previous to the new format? I can assure if they had Pitt anywhere in their name or referenced Pitt they were banned. I'm not being overly dramatic - it's the truth. Perhaps BWI posters got banned here, but there has always been a share of BWI posters who have continued posting here over the years. Generally Chris provides a leash - maybe not long, but he doesn't ban "just because" and like or not BWI mods have done that to Pitt posters for years.

And I'm not "whining". Just stating the facts and presenting the example.

You hit the nail on the head. Any disagreement with the BWI agenda is met with an immediate ban, and that includes fans of other schools, not just Pitt. They don't really care for the truth!

alright, if you say so. i don't really know. All I know is, I would visit this board, a PSU poster would speak their mind, typically they were gone a few days later (maybe hours if they were an a**hole). maybe BWI has a quicker hook....point is, we couldn't post on each other's message boards, generally speaking.

KJB found a way to stay in good graces prior to the webiste transition thru now. that's about it:)

Perchance,

Take your Sermon to church. We're on a "football board" talking about two "football teams". Not the admins, not the former coaches. I don't like PSU football, don't cheer for it and it makes me happy inside when they lose. That said, I respect many of the quality players that they've had there and the consistency of their winning not to mention the devotion (cultish or not) is remarkable. Those facts are not up for debate.

We can agree all day that we hate the blind eye that was turned to suffering children or the arrogance that some of their fans display, but that doesn't make ALL PSU fans arrogant nor does it make ALL of them enablers to a crime. What I'm saying is that everytime a PSU fan enters our chatroom, we should base responses and dialouge on the merit of what they present. There has been a BWI poster on this board whose been very engaging and reasonable, looking for interesting discussion and engagement. Why not talk? We're football fans, we're not brokering peace between Arabs and Jews.

Do not call out my ethical standing or my character. You don't know me but made a broad judgement none the less. I don't see the PSU program as superior but it has performed better in the modern era and they've developed a greater following. I don't admire all the factors around why but I acknowledge that not all are negative. When Pitt fans immediately run to "Ped State" comments while a reasonable poster is reaching out for conversation, than we become the ignorant ones. Lighten up Francis.

If this is solely a "football board" then 80% of the posts should be removed. So you have decreed that this forum is limited to discussing football teams only, not admins or past coaches. And how nice of you to decide for all which facts are up for debate. You, also, are on an open forum and have no right or authority, to my knowledge, to dictate what is discussed.
Those PSU supporters who stood/stand tall by condemning the actions of the Administration and football program over the decades long criminal activity are quite the opposite of enablers and deserve praise Those who defend and/or ignore these activities earn distain. This last group seems to consist of a majority.

The discussion and admiration of PSU football is a topic for the BWI forum. which you admittedly frequent.
Even Mussolini made the trains run on time.
Cultivating relationships with those that you find "engaging" belongs on a different forum

If you are offended at the statement that one who has a healthy respect for PSU places themselves in their ethical circle, then perhaps you should examine your characterization of Pitt fans who use Ped State as ignorant.

I shall leave you to your musings and wish you a happy and rewarding "Remains of the Day".

Well I think when the new Rivals format was introduced, all bans were lifted. I have absolutely no idea if somehow I was "re-banned". Honestly, I very rarely (I mean 1-2-3x/year?) go over there.

I know for a fact that one of the mods on BWI wouldn't ban you for simply being a PITT fan.

I have made a comment on BWI, after one of your more crazy posters said it was ok to riot over Paterno, but not over the death of a child in Baltimore. I think it's crazy to riot over either but I just thought death might be more important in the grand scheme of things than a football coach losing his job. His response was since Parerno was an "icon" rioting is ok. I left it at that because I'm sure disagreeing with than line of thought would be grounds for banning by McAndrews.

I think that's one of the issues with free boards. I take a whooping from time to time on The Lions Den and the mods let it run its course. Being part of a message board that is a think tank where everyone is supposed to share the same opinions doesn't sound too interesting to me. One of the best things about tMB IMO is that if you really need to know something about a recruit (let's say Miles Sanders or Brendan Ferns) you can go there and the posters from other teams will generally shoot you straight. Most times it is trolling and flaming but not when you seriously ask them for their opinion or what they're hearing they deliver. Would be nice to be able to do the same on the free boards and not be accused of stopping by to wreck shop.

Well I think when the new Rivals format was introduced, all bans were lifted. I have absolutely no idea if somehow I was "re-banned". Honestly, I very rarely (I mean 1-2-3x/year?) go over there.

Alright, well give it a shot. Post something over there and see if you're re-banned.

If not, no worries. Just curious

Perchance,

The name of the board is the "Football Board". I stated I had a healthy respect for aspects of the PSU program and wouldn't hold my personal feelings about other aspects against each poster. I sited the example that I don't have to like the team to recognize a quality player on it. How does that place me shoulder to shoulder with criminals?

If you want to hash up all sorts of ugliness, go nuts. Perhaps we can hate on every early American anglo-settler for the use of slavery and the genocide of our lands native people next? You must be a hit at parties... Fact is, we're playing PSU in 2016 and that games going to be a 100% packed house because both sides fans want to see it. If we can't get along in civil discussion on a chat room board than that's sad as we're adults, or at least I am. Spanier isn't posting here. Neither is JayPa or Sandusky. It's your neighbor and the guy or girl at the office. It's literally a football chat room. We're not curing the ill's of the world here. Perchance you can calm down a bit.

I posted in a thread about Hackenburg the other day and I don't think I was re-banned. They may have dialed it back to allow more conversation. Hopefully we can all be a little better about the way we engage now that we've all had some years of experience on these things.
