Ronneys, Steelers not happy with SEA

There are some real loons on here. It has a better chance of having a republican mayor in Pittsburgh than either having an on-campus stadium or the Steelers ever leaving the North Side. As I have posted many time, the North Side is more of an ancestral home to the Rooney's now than Ireland. No chance they ever leave.

"Modell would never move the Browns! He's established here! Runs a charity! Has a statue!"

"O'Malley would never move the Dodgers! Never!"

The only team guaranteed to never leave a city is Green Bay and that's because they're owned by the state.

This is called "controlling the narrative." The Steelers know they're the preferred entity in the region compared to city and county government so they're getting out in front of the "wah! They're being mean to us storyline." They know a sizable portion of the dimwits, who love all things Stillers and consider the Rooneys a benevolent royal family, will back them. This is also a nice way to poison the waters in case they ever do want to move. They can point to this story and say, "see?!! We told you all the way back then that they were not interested in helping."

Yeah. Easy question to ask is, why take this public when everyone knows darn well, Rooney will get what he wants from the SEA?

Any suggestion that the Rooney's would tether themselves to the city or a specific neighborhood is insane when playing on the North Side is a relatively recent development. If that even mattered, the South Side facility would be over there too but it's cool because Pitt is paying for most of it.

That was when they were renovating Lambeau. BTW, I went to Morgantown for a preseason game at it was horrible. The game announcer kept referring to the Atlanta Falcons as the Atlantic Falcons! NFL played outside of your home stadium is never a good idea.

Even Green Bay once played half of its games in Milwaukee.

"That was when they were renovating Lambeau."... for 42 years?... gee, and I thought that crew working on the Douglas's bedroom on Green Acres took their sweet old time to get the job done...

Sure. Anyone can move at anytime. Doesn't make it likely.

I think they want to be in a neutral facility. The Yum holds around 22K, ideal size. (Unless you like small campus gyms.) The Carrier Dome is awful, and Syracuse as a town couldn't support an event that big. Didn't the ACC plan to give Boston a shot?? Not that the Cuse or Beantown are weather-friendly, but NYC isn't, either.
The Carrier Dome has hosted Sweet 16/Elite 8 rounds many times over the years and as recently as 2014 or 2015, so I certainly think they could host the ACCT there, even though I wouldn't have Syracuse even close to top of the list.

The fact that PITT needs permission for the even the most minor changes says more about the ineptitude of the university than the power of the Rooney's.

This city would be Youngstown if it weren't for PITT keeping the area afloat in the 1980's .

Sure. Anyone can move at anytime. Doesn't make it likely.

In this economic climate it's more likely than ever. Now that the Los Angeles market has been filled, what did the NFL do almost immediately: dangle Las Vegas as a location. That'll be the new toy they'll threaten with. "If I don't get X,Y, Z I'll relocate my team to Las Vegas!" And the NFL has way more leverage to do this than any other sport because dopes are addicted.

Also, people speaking in absolutes that the Steelers will never move are clueless boobs. Allegheny County has insane taxes, so moving to a more friendly taxed county would make it worth it right off the bat. Unless you're familiar with the Rooney family, you're talking out of your a$$. Here are the facts.

- The Steelers want to host a Super Bowl
- For some time, the SEA hasn't been working with the Steelers to upgrade the facility enough to be able to host a Super Bowl
- Heinz Field is aging, and has a shelf life of about 30 years.

Past that, nothing is known. But, it behooves the Steelers to look elsewhere the next time they want to build a new stadium. That will likely happen within 10 years.

well as pitt fans, lets hope the steelers figure out their future stadium issues and that they remain in north shore area. cause if they don't, pitt isn't playing football games in butler/Washington/Westmoreland county, I can tell you that. you think we have attendance issues now, ask a pitt fan to drive on rt. 30 or to butler at 11am on a Saturday. steelers leave north shore, pitt football will be a club sport, playing their games at south stadium or highmark field.

Pitt fans should be praying that the rooney's and Allegheny county municipal authority get along or we will once again, be a Hoops school.

Allowing to Pitt at either of those 2 places would be a colossal failure of the athletic department. If the Steelers leave for Washington or Butler County, Pitt better have Pitt Stadium plans in place. But, this is why playing at Heinz Field was the dumbest idea ever to begin with.

Well, it is March so we're due for a "stadium in Oakland" thread.

maybe some open real estate will become available on campus in the next 10 years..

I posted somewhere in this hodgepoge that PITT better have a plan B for a venue to play football if the Steelers decide to relocate which would be a bad idea earlier.

Given the way PITT deals with athletic issues I bet they don't have a clue. That's why having a new AD on board asap is very important!

nah, nutting will take us.
pitt football at PNC park? OH SNAP. 38k attendance, on north shore.. Dude, it's perfect.. I love it. seating arrangements suck, 1/2 seats will be facing the endzone but nothing a little body/neck adjustments cant handle..

Problem solved boys, down with Heinz, bon voyage to the steelers. we found a new home..

@TIGER-PAUL, I just google earthed it, satellite style. measured the dimensions using scientific methods (a sticky post it and my pen) and I believe we can fit a football field in pnc going out to left field. this is really the only way we do it without taking out clemente wall or home plate seats..

the good thing is all those seats along the 3rd base side going out to left field are perfect. The bad news is, those right field seats/center field seats and first base line seats, well they suck.

gonna have to put up some makeshift bleachers, insight bowl does this in Arizona. pic below. take a bow Tiger Paul, you saved the day bro...

Could have spring game at 7 Springs.
umm, ok.. I think we could figure something out here. that's an odd one, not sure whats going on there with that suggestion. hey, we are spitballin here though, no ideas are bad.. not everything is gonna be gold Tiger-paul..

Maybe so
maybe some open real estate will become available on campus in the next 10 years..

Given the steller performance of our basketball team...and the fan response by staying away......I would argue the pete qualified as open real estate this year....

Btw. ...let me ask a dumb question. ....

Wouldn't the NFL have to sign off on any stadium move one of their franchises would want to make??

This thread is hilarious.

Never mind the notion of the Steelers leaving the area, which is ridiculous, but even if it were to occur, the notion that Heinz Field would be immediately destroyed and Pitt would be left without a home is even more ridiculous. All foster an agenda in the hope of some on campus stadium that's not going to happen.

Ahh...so, how do you know the Rooneys?

They aren't leaving Pittsburgh but could leave the county if someone makes a big entertainment complex/stadium proposal. Anyone who feels this is impossible isn't dealing in reality. A Rooney went to the media for a reason.

Rooneys are breaking their contract with the city, paying for a 400 million dollar stadium in butler county and Pitt will have to play all away games. We got it, thank you.

They had a public spat with the SEA over the expansion several years ago. It's the same thing for upgrades the SEA should pay for. A new sound system, scoreboard and expansion to the Great Hall aren't ridiculous requests and the SEA is just sitting on the money.

As far as moving, it's such a dumb notion with how much the Steelers have invested in the North Shore. Also, while some wouldn't want to believe it, Heinz Field would be torn down very quickly leaving Pitt playing an hour away from Oakland in the Steelers new stadium. If this is your dream of getting an on-campus stadium, just forget it. Not happening.

I don't care what anyone says, Heinz Field sucks. It has a decent view but everything else about the stadium is awful. Turf, food, seats, environment...all sucks.

These rankings are a LOL Freaking JOKE

The Great Hall and Ketchup Bottles
The view
Lambeau as No 1
The Superdome. The Superdome
Lol!!!!!

I'm fine with the place it was designed & built on the cheap and saved the taxpayers here tons of money.
Otherwise in fact it would not have been built at all.
But it's not close to being a top flight Stadium compared to what's out there today including most stadiums built right around the same time.

The Steelers know this and will demand many upgrades or be playing somewhere else in 5 to 10.
