who is the most overrated Pittsburgh athlete ever?

Middle aged white male Yinzers :)
sadly I am in this group and I don't think he is a bad person, really haven't given his status as a good or bad any real thought. are you sure middle aged white male yinzers really care either way? Are you sure you arent' trying to paint a picture that really doesn't exist? I don't think too many middle aged white males from any city have given too much thought or concern towards snoopy snoop for at least 15+ years..

hey, I liked "The chronic" just like everyone else but you realize that was over 25 years ago, right?? when is the last time he came out with a song? I remember he had a cameo appearance in that will Farrell back to college movie but not exactly a "sit around the water cooler and talk about" type of performance.

Snoop is a good father and family man and does a lot of good in his community, but the USA is screwed up and thinks people like him are "bad" and assholz like Evangelical Christians are "good".

Do you buy those broad brushes at the 'Every Muslim is a Terrorist' store?

I don't really have an opinion on him as good or bad, but he was involved in (at least one) a murder and got in trouble for luring underage girls into doing "Girls Gone Wild" by offering them weed and ecstasy, so, not sure he is as pure as you are portraying.

only middle aged white men from Pittsburgh consider offering underage girls weed and X to show skin as a bad thing JRip.. get with the times, and the murder thing, well only yinzers look down on that.. Respect the black culture you xenophobe

bettis shouldn't be in the hall of fame, he compiled numbers

fleury in the hall of fame LOL you guys clearly don't watch hockey
Next to Crosby, Fleury has been the best player in these playoffs. If not for Fleury the Pens are down 3-0 to the Caps, but I am not the hockey expert you are.

I've done extremely horrible things myself- almost as bad and some worse than those things, I don't demand "purity" if someone generally does good things over a lifetime most of the time and has a few heinous acts here and there, I'll give them a thumbs up, I always hated the idea of demanding perfection and banning people for life over one or two bad actions.

I used to see Snoop all the time at Bishop Gorman games when his son was playing. Seemed very approachable and relatively friendly. Very serious about football though. I've never heard anyone in Las Vegas say a bad word about him.

Would trade him in a minute for that Flavor Flav idiot that lives in my area. That fool has been in and out of trouble since the day he moved here.

Hold up. You have done worse things than be involved in a murder and lure underage girls into making child pornography by enticing them with drugs?!?!

dude, you got to elaborate here. "extremely horrible things" is a pretty strong statement.. I hear that, I think things like driving a school bus of children off a cliff and jumping out at the last second or being that guy who brushes his teeth in the public bathroom at work after lunch..

What do you mean by "extremely horrible things?"

I've done things that would get me NFL suspensions, lets just say that.

yeah, and you are pretty much as despised here as Snoop is by them Yinzer crackers......not sure what your point is. We know, you are ok with a few heinous things (never actually heard anyone say that ever short of Mussolini getting the trains to run on time).

I've done things that would get me NFL suspensions, lets just say that...Just tell us. Don't tell me you smoked weed..Heinous!

Worse things than that. not murder though, but I'm still a good person who does positive things, I just hate the modern American attitude, like where someone screws up and everyone is all indignant and wants them banned for life. Like Mike Vick, he killed some dogs, true, but he did jail time, he was punished enough, to me it was ok that he got more chances, he paid his dues.

I actually hated Vick all Thur college and the NFL and only started liking him after the dog fighting.

Mike Vick was a highly overrated backup QB for the Steelers, I AGREE 100%, well past his prime. He was a dog.
I remember the game he got pulled for Landry Jones it was blatantly obvious Vick could no longer throw the ball 10 yards.

Look, I am not thrilled with his stance on the Sandusky scandal. But I would hardly call him "overrated". He was a great RB, a dominant back before the Steelers had a passing game. They won 2 SB's on his legs and that defense. You can argue he was one of the best draft picks in Steeler history.
What???

Franco carried the Steeler offense during their first two Super Bowls. Don't care if he is a dolt now, a Joebot, but in the day, he was a force for the Steelers.
I don't care either. His accomplishments are way overrated. He was the beneficiary of playing with a great OL in front of him. Don't get me wrong, he wasn't a bum. However, he is far from one of the greatest draft picks in Steelers history. His legend as a player was greatly enhanced by being the recipient of a lucky bounce.

OJ Simpson was probably the All Time Greatest RB ever, nothing he's done erases that. That he has for life, Can't be taken away. Same with Franco, he was among the greatest RBs ever, the fact that he avoided hits to last longer makes him greater, not worse. The fact that he sucks JoePa off, doesn't change anything.

Yup. You are still a garbage human being.

Stil not Fleury

OP is rather quiet right now. I'm sure he'll show up after the first bad game Fleury has.

OK, I know I am, still I should be able to continue to do the job I'm good at if I'm not in jail. Half the world would be unemployed if you where eliminated for life over one or two screw ups.

screw up is a dui or a public intox, taking a leak in an alley in the south side and a cop arresting you for it. . you seem to be alluding to a little more than throwing down a sixer and driving home.. hey, im not judging, im just curious.

i will take him off the most overrated list entirely if he keeps this up and wins the cup

How did Jackie Robinson come into a discussion of Pittsburgh athletes? In any event, given the context that has just been raised (including the references to Rosa Parks and Robinson's service as an Army officer), you might find this part of Robinson's history interesting:

The only problem with the article is that it makes a huge mistake.
It claims that WWII was the first time African Americans appeared in the Army in large numbers.
Excuse me, but by the end of the Civil War, they accounted for slightly more than 25% of the GAR.
They volunteered by the thousands and distinguished themselves as brave soldiers.
Eventually, they received the same pay, but it took alot of spilled blood to get there.
I love what Robinson did just as much as the next guy, but the freed and runaway slaves deserve to be recognized.
This article removes them from modern history.
