Good ESPN Pitt articles

On whatever ACC Network show they had on late last night, they said Pitt at #18 is lowest ranked power conference team that was undefeated after 7 weeks in the history of the AP Poll. So maybe a few people like us but the general consensus says we aren't good. Narduzzi needs to keep proving to the masses that they're wr
Both Pitt and SMU are underrated. If SMU wins this game, they very likely will finish 11-1 (BC, ar UVA, Cal).

As usual, your desire to create perception to align with your take avoids reality.

First off, there really isnt any fiscal responsibility by politcal affiliation these days. Today’s conservatives aren’t your fathers conservatives. But that’s a different discussion for a different forum. And furthermore when it comes to sports, people irresponsibly spend regardless of their ideology.

Secondly, Trinity is not a very poor area. The median household is right in line with other school districts like a Chartiers Valley (which has Nemacolin in its borders), Shaler, Hempfield, etc. it’s a small notch below a Norwin or Canon Mac, and considerably higher than a Baldwin or Belle Vernon. So pump the breaks a bit on your rhetoric. Median household is in the 60’s which might be in line with national averages.

And another data point for reference, Washington school district is in the 30’s, as well as schools like Clairton, City of Pittsburgh, and Sto Rox.

Median Household Income
Amwell $44,922
South Strabane $42,762
North Franklin $37,516

Admittedly those numbers are always skewed a lot by retiree households but still, that's poor.

Not sure why you are comparing with CV, Shaler, Hempfield, Baldwin, Belle Vernon, etc as there is a lot of poverty in those districts.

Yep. It appears to me Norwin, CM and Hempfield are still growing. Just a few years ago I seem to remember those numbers being in the high 500’s and very low 600’s.

935 seneca

833 butler

698 norwin
684 canon mac
676 Mt Lebo
674 hempfield
638 woodland hills
Are those numbers total enrollment?

If so, relative to most high schools in the metro Detroit area, those schools are tiny.

I don't know about all of the sports you mention, but in most of them college coaches don't even recruit at the high schools, they recruit at the travel events. I've said this before but my niece played soccer at Duquesne. She had several high school teammates who also ended up there. And I don't remember ever seeing the Duquesne coaches at any of her high school games. I'm not saying that they couldn't have been there at some point, but it certainly would have been the rare exception to the rule. OTOH, there were Duquesne coaches at pretty much every big event her travel team played in, even the ones in places as far away as Las Vegas.
100% true. My daughters have both been in that club soccer world for years. Showcase tournaments, ID camps hosted by groups of college programs, etc etc. My older daughter gets emails from the Duquesne coach and a bunch of others every week inviting her to ID camps--and we live in Michigan.

My older daughter is a soph in H.S.--her entire H.S. team, and every team they play against, is loaded with club players, most of who are upper echelon club players. Just about every metro Detroit H.S. team she played against had a kid or two on it that she knew from the club soccer world. Most of the JV teams are also composed entirely of club players from the lower echelons. It's very obvious who play club and at what level, and who doesn't at tryout time. The elite level of club players isn't even permitted to play for their H.S. teams. And those are the girls that eat up 75% of the D1 scholarships for their sport.

Volleyball, baseball, basketball, hockey, softball, swimming are all sports where it's even more critical to play club to even have a prayer of a college scholarship, or really even a spot on your H.S. varsity team. There is no substitute for the year round, high level training that club players get, and the high school and college coaches know that.
