2024 NBA mock draft: Projecting all 58 picks post-combine

20. Cleveland Cavaliers

Carlton Carrington, PG/SG, Pittsburgh | Age: 18.8

Teams view the 18-year-old Carrington as one of this draft's true upside swings, with positional size (measuring just under 6-foot-4 barefoot) and flashing the talent as a scorer, playmaker and defender to deliver a strong return outside the lottery. He's still raw enough that there's some downside here, and some scouts felt he missed an opportunity to help himself by playing in the combine scrimmages, but there's certainly optimism around his long-term potential as his body fills out. With the future of the Donovan Mitchell/Garland pairing in Cleveland uncertain, the Cavs could justify swinging on a younger guard at this spot. -- Woo

Kenny Impressing Early In Philly!

I know many PGH people have strong feelings about Kenny and the Steelers, but that's not what this post is about. It's about a Pitt man having positive pub (God knows he could use some) and seemingly getting a fresh start for his career.

According to an Eagles reporter:

Kenny Pickett delivers. The backup quarterback looked sharp, sharper than Jalen Hurts, to be honest. Hurts was on the money on his first two seven-on-seven throws, hitting A.J. Brown on a quick inside slant then following up with a nice sideline throw about 15 yards downfield. Pickett, though, was consistently on target. The Eagles can win games with him if something happens to Hurts.

Starting Lineup

Curious to see who everyone is starting right now? I know on the basketball board lots of talk about minutes breakdown. I love the add of Delalic and think he could start. But he sounds like more of a guard or wing than a 4. Even if the last spot is filled I would imagine that is a depth piece or reserve. As of today what is your starting lineup? I think the Dunn/Leggett talk is fascinating but also very likely both could start if a 3 guard lineup is the answer, I am not against that at all and think it is a definite possibility.

PG- Lowe
SG- Leggett or Dunn
SF- Delalic Austin is more of a 3 I get it
PF- Austin GDG an option here
C- Corhen

Bench
GDG
Kante
Leggett or Dunn
Cummings
JDG

Reserves
Open
Barnes
Ndiaye (maybe redshirt?)

OT: Pirates

Don't look now, but the Buccos swept the Red Sox at Fenway

Hey we’re not in last!

The Morning Pitt: 5/22/2024 - How about some optimism for Pitt football?

There doesn't seem to be a lot of optimism around Pitt football right now, but let's try to brighten the day a bit by looking at a few elements of the Panthers that should be pretty good in 2024.

ACC approves NCAA-House settlement

According to Pete Thamel, the ACC has joined the Big 12 in approving the NCAA's settlement in the House case (one of three anti-trust lawsuits facing the NCAA right now). The settlement is the next step toward a new era of college sports, with the NCAA paying millions to former student-athletes in "missed" NIL opportunities and schools sharing revenue with current student-athletes.

The expectation is that schools will be on the hook for $20-22 million in revenue-sharing and maybe another million or two in new scholarships, since the NCAA is expected to remove scholarship limits (while also limiting total roster size). On top of that, the NCAA is likely going to hold back a couple million from its annual distributions to contribute to the "back pay" for former student-athletes.

The end result is that schools will probably be on the hook for $23-25 million annually.

That's a not-insignificant amount, and I think it's going to lead to some tough decisions for Pitt leadership in the coming years (or maybe months).

I talked about this proposed settlement and what it could mean for Pitt on an episode of the Morning Pitt last week

Would you agree if the ACC offered this as a settlement?

Unequal revenue sharing based on some type of program value metric rated by some third party entity.

Inotherwords, have some third party determine, how much of the ACC's contract is due to having each team in the conference and pay them accordingly. In exchange, FSU and Clemson agree not to leave until 2036.

Hypothetically, lets say:

FSU: 18%
Clemson: 14%
UNC: 10%
Miami: 7.5%
NC State: 7%
UVa: 5%
VT: 5%
Pitt: 5%
Duke: 5%
Lou: 5%
GT: 5%
Cal: 3%
Stan: 3%
SMU: 2.5%
Wake: 2.5%
BC: 2.5%
